"Before you die there is something you should know about us, Lone Starr."
"What?"
"I am your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate."
"What's that make us?"
"Absolutely NOTHING!"
Fun Fact: The voice of the self destruct countdown is that of Screenplay Supervisor Julie Pitkanen.
Budget Friendly Fact: During his scene, Michael Winslow did most of the sound effects. In the DVD audio commentary for the movie, Mel Brooks jokes that they saved around $1,000 by letting him do this.
Doll Balls Fact: The scene in which Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis) is playing with his dolls was not in the screenplay. Writer, producer, and director Mel Brooks came up with the idea on the set one day and told this to Rick Moranis, who then improvised the entire scene.
Location Location Fact: The castle on the planet Druidia is King Ludwig II's Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria. It has been modified by matte painting with additional ramps. Neuschwanstein Castle has been featured in many motion pictures, and it is the original inspiration for all Disney theme park castles.
Star Wars Cameo Fact: The Millennium Falcon from the Star Wars saga makes a cameo appearance in this movie. Take a close look at the exterior shot of the Space Diner, and it can be spotted parked there among the other space vehicles. George Lucas got a chance to read the screenplay before production began, and loved it so much that he decided to have his special effects company, Industrial Light & Magic, help make this movie.
Mel's deal with George Lucas was no merchandise and that Lonestar couldn't dress like Han Solo. Which is why the movie is full of merchandise jokes and Lonestar is dressed like Indiana Jones.
That’s hilarious
I found out the other day the actor that said ""we ain't found S...." is actually Tuvok from Star Trek. Obviously before he was Tuvok.
I like Mel Brooks genius idea of long & big ship enough to transform mega maid & her vacuum include a funny reverse button able to suck & blow.❤😂😂
6:36 hey, they know the double mint twins. Few reactors know about them.
21:44 BEST PART OF THE MOVIE
"Even in the future nothing works." As TH-cam hangs for 2 minutes. Video was faster in the 90s.
So fun fact the Mr coffee scene was added because people kept leaving their coffee cups on set so they added that in as a sort of an excuse for when they ended up in the background
"When Will Then Be Now??
Soon!!"
I can’t remember that last movie I watched that made me carry sustained laughter for practically all of the running time the way Spaceballs did.
Love,
Bryan
Ok well now I'm trying to picture Bill Paxton as Lonestar lol
That’s hilarious!
Very long ship is a reference to star Track movie , first view to the enterprise was about 9 minutes
There should be a list of media one can watch before watching these old spoof movies to understand the references.
That is a great idea, Daniel!
John Candy and Rick Moranis are both Canadian
Try the Mel Brooks movie nobody ever seems to watch, but it's my favorite. The Twelve Chairs.
OHHHH I LOVE THE 80's
15:52 I LOVE IT HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA
I don't keep up with modern movies, but I have the impression that parodies today are more often in the sketch-show format. F.ex. That Mitchell and Webb look parodies Bond movies (well; OR probably closer to being an updated version of Dr. Evil from Austin Powers), parodies the typical reality TV-shows (like buying house, home renovation shows), sports commentating, game-shows..), a parody of Battlestar galactica, they have at least two different types of parodies of Sherlock Holmes, superhero movies..
Parodies is a type that really lends it well to that format.. and there were plenty of re-occurring parodies in that TV-series. (I would recommend watching the series than to watch the condensed "only this type" clip because it does ruin the pace of it all)
Prince Valium is a pill.
23:28 that is so true in the future nothing works
Also yes, please watch First Blood!
Coming soon!!!
Bloody good book, iconic movie. You’ll like it.
28:27 the problem today is that there isn't anything worth parodying or stuff today is already dumb enough.
Love y'all's reactions. Keep up the good work sirs, and definitely check out First Blood (I recommend reading the book as well). It's funny y'all mention Lone Star looks like a combo of Han Solo and Indiana Jones, Mel Brooks got George Lucas's permission to make this only if he didn't dress Lone Star like Han Solo so he dressed him as Indiana Jones. Also, apparently there was a considered sequel called Space Balls 3: The Search For Space Balls 2.
The Soich Fo Mo Money
