I'm using good ol' Gutermann thread. Find it here: sewhungryhippi...
I'm using a Juki serger, and a Juki TL2000 sewing machine. You can purchase machines from my friends at BlueBarquilts.com in Middleton, Wisconsin.
I think it's essential to show real life when sewing, so I filmed my FIRST go at sewing the Estuary Skirt. You will see me pivot and learn, fix bumps in the road, and "go with the flow". If you want a super technical tutorial, this is not it. So many times, videos are edited and curated to show perfection, and that's not real life. Please give me some grace as I change my mind on certain things. I thought I would serge the entire skirt, but I ended up serging just a few seams. I purposely do not do "everything" by the book -- that's not who I am, and as a Sewist, you have the power to do what YOU like. It's a choice, it's a lifestyle, and it's an attitude. I refuse to sweat the small stuff. 😄 (And most things are small stuffs.) 😂
Peace, Love, Sewing!

I love how REAL you are. It's like getting a sewing lesson with a friend.
I *almost* bought flannel for this skirt today! I live in Florida so flannel might not be the best. Love the tutorial!!!!!!
Beautiful skirt. I would not have thought to use flannel. Great tutorial!!
Thank you so much! It popped into my head that flannel is always used for skirts so why not for skirts! Also gives me a reason to wear a vintage slip!
Great tutorial on the skirt. I just received my pattern and am excited to try it. Haven't sewn garments in many years, but you inspire me. Also, the plaid is adorable! Thank you!
YAY!!!! I look forward to hearing all about your fab finish!
Natalie, thanks for such a detailed video on sewing 🧵 with plaid fabric using the Estuary Pattern. Gail from Florida 😊
Thank you for watching, Gail 🥰🤩
I love the angled top of the pockets & that they don't match the plaid on the skirt so you can see them, that flannel is so pretty.
They are super handy too, Tamara! You can just get to stuff so easily when they are on the front!
Super cute on you Natalie, great job!
Thank you, Tamara🥰
I have a lovely serger that I rarely use. Time to do some garments!!
Get that serger out Melanie!!!!! 🤩
Thanks❤
You're welcome 😊

Hi Sharon, Thank you so much for watching the replay!!!! Happy you are here!
So cute! Love that fabric. I made this skirt last year in a cotton flannel too, but I guess because the fabric was on the thicker side, the elastic wouldn’t gather up enough and it so it is a little too big in the waist. Just wondering if you know what I’m talking about 😂 and if you have any suggestions for what i should have done differently? Thanks!
You can do the waistband in a quilting cotton instead; OR I like to sew in the elastic and fold the fabric over one time instead of a gathering. You end up having to stretch the elastic while sewing it in, pulling from both in front and behind the needle - but it works. I'll put this on my list of tutorials to do soon.
Thank you! ❤
Hello from Ky.
Hello Dorthy!!! So happy you are here with us!
Love your dungarees! Did you make them, too?
Thank you! I did not make these, I purchased them from a wonderful small business. I will find the name for you!
Hello!!!
Hello!
Can I order 3 1/2 yard of flannel? Pattern calls for 3 1/4.
Sorry, we sell by the yard. Order 4 and you can make a scarf with the remainder! Also with plaid, you'll probably want to match lines, so extra is good!!!
Don't forget to hit like!
Love you, Tamara!
