Making paddock fencing easier for intensive grazing with goats and sheep

  • As fall is creeping in, I’m working to finish up the last of my projects. One that’s been on the list for quite some time is updating our paddock fencing inside our permanent pasture with new insulated line posts and turbo wire from ‪@GallagherAnimalManagement‬ that’s more effective and durable than our old set up of step in posts and farm store grade poly wire.
More on the set up concept 👉 I’m always looking for ways to be more efficient with my time, while not sacrificing the purpose and benefits of rotational grazing.
Having a semi-temp fence that runs the center of our pasture has helped us more easily move our goats and sheep with our intensive grazing system of 1-3 days by keeping the "act of fencing" to a minimum.

Nothing so satisfying as updating fencing! 👍 (Also, your herd/flock looks beautiful!)

We rotational graze our dexter cows. We are currently in the process of planning for goats and sheep and haven't seen a lot about rotationally grazing goats. We really appreciate you sharing. We are in the Ozarks so rocks can be a big issue here, as we have to be extra diligent when we sink our step in posts.

I bet that's no fun with rocks. We have them but probably nothing like your area! -- Glad you found us! You might find more info on grazing goats and sheep here but also on my blog grazingwithleslie.com

Thanks for information on the fencing. I'm in the process of cross fencing and I'm interested in the poly wire and the non steel post. I can see in this video that you do run your sheep and goats together. Thanks again, great video.

You're welcome! Yep, we do that for ease of grazing to have one large group.

Woahhh if you ever put a goat panel on a gate can you make a video? I have a piece of woven wire on mine with chain link ties but it looks so ghetto and your gate with that goat panel looks so much neater! What did you use to attach it to the gate panel???

Yes, can do! I'll add it to my list when I'm out doing farm chores when I have a little extra time.
