The discussion about "need to press buttons very fast" skill is so true. I came from GW1, and this game requires fast-paced action game control,. which was quite the shock.

The fact that GW2 throws new players into 10 years of content is one of my favorite things with the game. That being said, when I first started playing, it was such a huge learning curve that I was mostly lost for an entire year! 😅

Other GW2 content creators need to lure this chad of a MMO-Man back to GW2. It would be amazing to watch and would improve GW2.

The guy explained very well that serious players need to know the publisher's plans for the future and arena net has not given any information about how they will develop this game for 10 years.
No one is going to risk a financial career in this title because of this and therefore such dinosaurs as, for example, WoW are not endangered

In the future, I think both ArenaNet and the playerbase will realize the value of the World vs World mode in the longevity of the game. Think about it. What does Guild Wars 2 have over the other 2 big boys WoW and FFXIV in the MMORPG market? A large-scale Realm vs Realm game mode.
This is the one game mode where Guild Wars 2 is actually leading the industry ever since the death of Warhammer Online and Dark Age of Camelot. WoW and FFXIV are not even bothering to compete in this type of content. Even New World's 50v50 "War" mode is actually just a 30 minute session, not a persistent battlefield like GW2's World vs World that lasts for a week. World vs World is an endless generator of new situations for players to engage in. It has the only vertical progression system in the game for the people who want that kind of grind. It is filling the space left by other (unfortunately) failed attempts to create large-scale PvP battlefields.
World vs World is the clearest part of Guild Wars 2 that I can point to and say this is why Guild Wars 2 cannot be replaced by anything else on the market and as long as that is the case, this game's life depends on that game mode.

You act like this is the core part of GW2 which is not. You do realize there's veterans playing GW2 for almost 10 years and they haven't been in WvW? Some haven been just 2-3 times for.... the... whole... time of playng, years and years. PvP always been an option.... in GW2. Also GW2 was made with mind as core PvE MMO, not PvP, nor WvW because if this was the case as you claim, it wouldn't have even 10k players, possibly even less. The charm of this game definitely isn't WvW.

I used to play GW2 years ago, then abandoned it for a different game, but after getting frustrated with its devs/publisher my first thought was to reinstall this, and right now i'm loving it more than ever (even bought an expansion pack), and hoping to see it live and flourish, because i'd be willing to stick with it for many years to come. It's a really enjoyable game with a great foundation that just feels good to play, and has a bunch of exciting content waiting to be discovered. Kinda sad that i missed out on so many years, but hoping to catch up at least a little.

Yeah my biggest gripe with GW2 has always been that I have no idea what I can do apart from run around and complete the hearts. Crafting, PVP and raids etc just aren't explained or introduced to new players so I just kinda end up running around until I get bored and i'm nervous about trying to do group content because I have no idea if I have good enough gear or levels to participate even if I did know how to queue up for them. I'm probably just a massive noob but I feel like the game is extremely confusing for new players compared to other MMOs.

I was this new player and only recently got my one year birthday gift. Took me a long time to understand the general gameplay loop and has been hard to make friends since I didn't know what to even be doing once I hit 80. For awhile I just did world bosses since I didn't know what strikes/fractals were. Only yesterday did I join my first fractals group. So I agree that GW2 does a pitiful job of pointing new players in the right directions. People have been nice for the most part but I'm just waiting for the day I get flamed for not knowing basic strike mechanics when I finally build up the courage to join a group

You can have a great combat system but (like the vid talked about) ya gotta treat ya game like the great MMO that it is. I almost want to cuss ArenaNet out- WHERE are the cinematics? WHERE is the content? This game should of had over 50 fractals by now. SAB world 3 and 4 should have been done by now. Even a trip to the Wizard's Tower FINALLY so my verdict is that even though it's not dying it's certainly not shining in the way that it deserves and that is 100%, like it's always been, a managerial issue. When you have weak leadership you have no vision and when you have no vision efforts scatter to the wind to never become anything substantial in the gaming industry.

GW1 wasn't just 2 and 3 second casts dude, Word of Healing was a 3/4th of a second and possibly half that if a monk swapped to his 40/40 set to cast it. Getting an interrupt on that was a struggle, but super rewarding, like actually match winning kind of reward. The problem with GW2 pvp is it's just too much bullshit and full of legibility problems. GW1 was much more straight forward to get into but still felt like it had a high ceiling at the top end. Also the game had actual true build variety, everyone I knew in GW1 even if I met them in the PvE side of the game would pvp from time to time because it was that much fun, but in GW2 it's like the majority of the playerbase avoids it.

I'm technically a veteran (as I played months when gw2 came out), but left to the army didn't come back until PoF for a few months but had to start a new account. Didn't get to experience it as I was leveling up slowly and at that time had my first kid, so I stopped And left until a month ago.... there is so much content I haven't experienced, and I feel as if I am a new player. I'm barely in season 2 LW, going through achievements, got at least the first 3 mounts though....
I feel for new players there is no such thing as content drought that many streamers keep talking about. When this last patch came out, so much negativity amd I'm here like, dang... maybe it might not be worth making gw2 my main game....... but all that goes away when I log in, the combat, the world events, the mounts, the jps, the daily log in taking me all over.the world doing things, and then I join a guild and did missions for the first time,... whole new thing to do... I'm hooked.

Man the button pressing thing has really hit me recently. I love the game, 6k+ hours since the open betas, but due to recent chronic health stuff and my job which has me typing all day, I'm finding I can't play nearly as much, and sometimes at all, because it's physically painful to have to hit all the skills. It doesn't particularly matter about the class, though it sure doesn't help that I love ele; even warrior though can be rough and lead to pain. I don't think there's a solution, but it doesn't make it not a problem for at least some of us.

Unlike Lost Ark (where I came from), this game never feels like a chore. I never need to worry about staying “caught up” by grinding the same content over and over, turning the game into a job. That alone is a defining feature of this game for the casual gamer (who make up the majority of the playerbase). Most of the MMO community are adults who have a life and responsibilities outside of gaming, and Guild Wars 2 respects that.
I am currently trying BDO because 5 of my friends are playing, and every time I log into it I would just rather be playing GW2. They can’t get into it because it “doesn’t look modern”. BDO combat is super fun but the quality of the game just doesn’t come close from my experience so far. Heavy on the cash shop, uninteresting story, no real PvE content (my personal favourite type of content)…
I wish I could get others into GW2.

  • @jurare89
    @jurare89 ปีที่แล้ว

The point about having the devs to either listen, or specifically NOT listen to the pro players is quite an interesting one.
And while i am aware that this is quite a delicate balance, i think the devs should take a slightly different approach. I´m still absolutely convinced, that the best way to find issues, is to play the game by yourself. BUT: you also need the input of professional players (especially in WvW and PvP).
So instead of either ONLY judging by yourself, playing the game and then making e.g. balancing decisions, or ONLY listening to either the pro-players or the vast majority of players, they need to do BOTH.
So basically: collecting issues from ALL levels of play. For example: looking at the forums, and check what people often complain about (that´s the "majority of players"), then compare that with the opinions of pro-players / competetive guilds (check in how THEY play, use the thing in question, or even how they counteract against it), and then hop into the games and (that´s the most important part) trying to identify the issue by intentionally playing it for yourself and against it (which should not be a big deal as a dev tbh.).
This would counteract 2 big complaint-points your constantly hear from the players: 1. "the devs don´t know what they´re doing because they don´t play their game" and 2. "XY is broken!!! do something!"
34:35 EXACTLY. This also basically means, that the point where most non-PvP/non-WvW-players complain about (the, from their perspective, boring repetetiveness) is actually not really true. While oin the surface it may LOOK repetetive (you´re "only" hitting players, or fighting gates and walls), every single of the fights and scenarios turns out differently. You can NEVER know how a fight will progress, and it may completely flip upside down from one moment to another. And the way how PvE-mains perceive PvP/WvW, is actually the same way PvP/WvW-mains perceive PvE (a repetetive type of content, with always the same bosses, that ALWAYS do the same thing). So ofc, THEY think that PvE is boring instead.
1:02:00 what Grimjacke wrote there is actually an interesting idea. Ppl always complain about bunkering down in objectives and ppt-ing stuff that is paper, while at the same time not realizing that they themselves just avoid conflict (which objectives as we have them now are supposed to create). A dynamic event where players have to fight over, that has a big impact would be an alternative to create conflict spots on the map. This doesn´t even have the necessarily mean, that it has to be a huge objective that defines the outcome of a match potentially (i´d imagin that the removed objective from rbl was such a thing, but i cannot judge because i wasn´t there at the time), but rather, a medium-sized objective/boss, that can impact a certain amount of time of the match (in line with the rewards would be for example, the duration of a skirmish, aka 2 hours). In this case, no side could bunker down before (i you make the are inaccessible when the event is down), but rather, everyone would have to "fight over fighting the boss/objective".

  • @stlawrenceriverrat

@nerdslayergaming I'd love to see an open world pvp map that is level based, eg. You enter the map at level 1 to 10, 10 to 20 etc. increasing by 10 levels per map as you progress through the world. Use the existing maps but on a pvp only server. Could have race vs race, Norn vs Human that kind of thing.

People forget now, but my first toon I completely leveled in WvW. You used to be able to completely play WvW and never play PvE or PvP. It wasn’t until much later that changed. And honestly, I wish people would talk about how DRAMATICALLY the specialization system changed the game. When they are talking old PvP. The entire trait system was different. No one today would have a clue about how to make a build with the old system.

it's funny to think that all ARENANET has to do is "remaster" their core game and they could be more widely accepted.

  • @jamesklee
    @jamesklee ปีที่แล้ว +2

53:40 I think this is spot-on. Say what you will about balance in GW2 spvp, but there's generally counterplays available to just about every scenario. Everyone has s on dodge, at least limited access to blocks and a few stacks of the key boons, stunbreaks, etc. Through learning, experience, and skill, you can usually come up with a build and playstyle that does something useful without getting roflstomped.
It's only when it rises to catalyst levels of weirdness where a lot of classes just can't get a window to either get a hit in, or run away safely that things get nearly unplayable. That, and the bunker meta, where there just wasn't enough damage existing in the game to pressure a well played bunker.

People play a game for a long time because they like gameplay
Gw2 fast paced combat and horizontal progression turns off a lot of MMO people. People who are burned out of traditional WoW clones or vertical progression games understand how good gw2 is.
Vertical progression gives people something to strive for and most people are into it. It's addicting like increasing your proficiency of skills in eso or leveling your weapon mastery in new world etc...
What gw2 needs at the moment is an open world tracks like wvw/pvp that guides people and gives out rewards. For example, You have done the base story what should I do?
Now with the system I mentioned we will have a track in Hero Panel that guides players into different modes of the game. It can be a one time battle pass track.
Most people in the MMO community think of gw2 as an easy game. It is easy in a way that it doesn't challenge you like a traditional MMO. But people who are used to no death , hard mode, speed clears in eso will find gw2 content lackluster
As you have said there is a lot of outdated information and
gw2 fast paced combat feels good but the visual clutter of not knowing what's happening is a big minus. For example, consider a game like cs go which is an online shooter that people who are not into games can understand easily. Now the same can't be said with gw2 which decreases it's appeal as a esport or to advertise to a non gamer or mmo player
Overall now Anet is following destiny model and I have little hope for anything that follows destiny content model. Now we really don't know what the game is going to be about.
Ps. Still waiting on those alliances it's been more than 5 years

I have played GW2 on and off for a while but honestly. It never worked for me. The combat is just to boring. GW1 was actually the better game. Sure the horizontal progression in GW2 is cool but then they butchered the Cantha expansion. No Ritualist class/spec, changing the color of the jade for no reason etc.
I was really hype when they announced that expansion. Would have played the game and probably still be playing. But nah, they dropped the ball with that one. Just like when the game launched and my personal quest was bugged as fuck at some point and suddenly referenced events that never happened.
Only good thing about GW2 for me is that it keeps the GW1 servers running.

It practically ruined other games' combat that I have tried. I took a big break from GW2 and played Final Fantasy XIV for over a year. Great story, but the combat felt like a chore I had to go through to get to the next story bit.

I haven't watched this yet because I'm a work, but I'm very curious to see what this guy has to say.
I've disliked his channel for being very disingenuous in his videos on games I've played in the past.

His biggest issue is probably not going into depth on why the game died. It's hard to fit everything into a 10-20 minute video and especially MMOs.

The content of that guy is really bad. Imagine rant and hate every game you play, how boring.

Much of what Nerdslayer says (and Teapot) seems to me to be a symptom of how the game industry works and needs to be either reformed or at least have developers with a vision and consistency stay on and keep iterating on their systems and long term plans - something that very few developers seem to do or be able to do.
There's so many games, including GW and WoW, that have introduce systems and ditch them. Even in their worlds, they introduce storylines, characters that are left to stagnate or forgotten about, either because of the need to introduce more content in order to retain players in a FOMO type of way or because the people that develop these things leave and the people who replace them have their own ideas they want to explore.
Keeping the same groups of developers, a core, has the danger of stagnation and not being able to generate new ideas, but it also has the bigger net benefit of consistency. We've all experience media (games, films, books) that changed direction and suffered for it because of the people at the helm. I'm not sure what could be done but the companies themselves (NCSoft and Arenanet) really need to retain developers for a long, long time in order to keep some semblance of stability and cohesion in their games.
A good (sort of) example is Warframe - it also suffers from "redundant and forgotten systems" problem, almost every patch introduces a new system that isn't really developed on and left behind. However, if you've played Warframe the core vision is solid. They don't try to be a pvp game, or a raiding game, or a battle royale, there's this vision of "I'm a space ninja and I have space magic powers" and it excels at that like no other game.
If you ask me what GW2's vision is (or many MMO's at this point) I couldn't tell you.

Agreed. GW2 to me is a mix of half-decent systems but none of them are standout. Now that you mention Warframe etc. The combat in GW2 is just...there but not deep enough. You do the same activities (like hearts) for 70 levels and then for 3 more expansion zones. Are the mounts good? Sure but they don't carry the game on their own. Raids seem non-existant or at least I've never done one no matter how often I play the game and how far I get that time.
It might just be the core system of "no trinity" that's keeping the game from having better content I dunno. Running around pressing like 5 buttons, weapon swap and press 5 buttons again just gets boring after a while. And big events etc. you just zerg along and feel like you're not even contributing. Since there are no roles like tank/healer probably. You're just another random throwing some damage into the pile of mobs or at the boss.
