Andy that was cool, I have never heard of a boot jack before this vid. Your little son in the shop reminded me of my oldest Son He used too hang out with me all the time He is now 30yrs old & He became a mechanical engineer & He also does woodworking now. Thanks & God Bless
It's very strange. I am left handed, so whenever I see a craftsman use a hatchet right handed I just naturally fear how little control they must have, before I quickly remember that I am the odd one out.

Did anyone else notice the little critter in the bore hole at timestamp 6:19? And I'm sure you've heard/read this enough to know that Matt wants a hi-res photo... Just saying...
Great work - those are so useful for all kinds of boots, and they keep your house floor cleaner.
Unsolicited advice: not sure if you climate-control your shop 24/7, but I lived in TX (Army) for some time and now in VA... concrete slab floors can suck water out of the air and make it condense on things on/near the floor, like your very nice router.

When I clicked on this, I did not expect this master craftsman of fine furniture to be holding a branch in his hand and hacking at it with a hatchet.
I personally think it is great parenting to raise your kids around hard work! Blood never hurt anyone lol!!

Proof. Dogs won't use boot jacks! Had a couple - never seemed to be where I put them. ... But I didn't have a place to put them that was convenient to the rest of the household. No porch or vestibule - just living room or narrow back doorway with steps...
how did you get your start in woodworking?
I started woodworking with my Dad in high school but really got my start after taking classes under Paul Sellers and Frank Strazza around 2004. Having the experience to learn from Paul and Frank is really what put me on the path to becoming a furniture maker.

No hate, I love your channel and think you’re a great dad, but I worry about your son’s little feet walking around the shop barefoot. Im sure he’s used to little wood shavings, but there could be screws and nails laying around, and that wouldn’t end well

Starting with a piece of firewood, you ended up with... a smaller piece of firewood.
I’m not sure if you caught that last shot but actually it’s a boot jack which helps me take my boots off when they’re muddy. Don’t be so darn negative...
