What is your favorite MAFEX Figure?
That is a tough one. The Superman, Spider-man, and Mando (2) are all great i can't choose!

@@gregarcher8177 I second this. Knightfall Batman is one of the best figures made by a company ever. It's just a cut above. It also took like an extra year to release too so IDK if they were cleaning up the mold or not but it came out amazing!
cyborg superman is easily the crown jewel of the mafex line.
Favorite one so far has been brown suit Wolverine and comic venom, love the 90s comic venom look 🔥

There was a panel in X-Men drawn by Jim Lee where Cyclops is wearing his glasses with his visor hanging from his neck. That's why it's included.
He figured it out with Logan's mask, I'm amazed he didn't realize that's what the visor was for.
I was thinking had to do with the sunglasses head. Cyclops is never without one or the other unless something bad has happened

I will say, I love this video and this channel. I know Big Nerdy has said he can't pose his figures before but come on. This is a new extreme. They look deformed due to the way he is posing them. I am kinda shocked honestly.
Yeah, I'm always rolling my eyes on social when I see people praise posing skills in photos. Then a friend of mine pointed out that posing is something I take for granted that I can pose... Which seems weird, but my friend can't do it if their life depended on it, and is one of those who is blown away if I can do a basic fighting stance, let alone an action pose that balances.
Small wonder a This common joke in our hobby is that most people just use vanilla poses standing on a shelf.

Oh man was this hard to watch. Did you noticed that he put the left clawed hand on the right hand and viceversa on Wolverine? It’s so triggering to me.
Yeah o honestly can’t understand. If I was going to pose my figures like this and then put them on the shelf I wouldn’t even bother collecting. They look like the super early product shots hasbro used back in 2013.

Spidey’s eyes are different between the 2 heads
The loose visor piece for Cyclops is his version of Wolverine’s “cowl down” accessory. Supposed to pair it with the glasses head so it looks like he’s pulled his visor down around his neck.
It's wild to me that people can claim to be a certain level of collector and can't pose a figure for shit 😮. These figures can hit any pose... They all look like they were pulled from the bottom of a tote. Also Venom is Carnages dad, not brother.
How to make some of the holy grails look terrible through posing
Spidey eyes are obviously different. Squinty eyes vs. angry eyes. The tops of the eyes are the way to tell.
I think Mafex is worth it for most figures if you want a definitive figure. You can buy 5 different black suit Spider-man hoping Hasbro will finally after the same articulation and accessories as Mafex or you could just get the Mafex to begin with(if you can). Gambit may have some issues but Hasbro's offerings just do not compare.
Though they need to work on the hand peg situation or at least offer spares.
The only ones I don't have from the vid is Cyclops and Wolverine. Cyclops I think MVL did a good enough job and I just prefer the MVL version over Mafex. Wolverine, already have enough yellow Wolverines............I need that brown suit.
Hush Batman, I think is going to lose some luster. First off we have Knightfall Batman for all the folks who prefer that look. Then Mafex showed off prototypes for two figures. One is a civilian Bruce Wayne which would come with enough heads to use on other Batman. The other is a Batman with the oval on a more Hush like body.
I agree Mafex is for the "definitive version" or your favorite character. It's nice having a Spidey and Cyclops and Gambit that fit in with Legends, but since the main/current/active DC line isn't yet inches, the Hush Mafex figures are kind of on an island.
Not trying to sound rude but those are some of the most stiffest and awkward poses I have ever seen

I'm on my 4th Mafex, The 2 versions of Hush Batman, Nightwing and TDKR Batman. Sold all my Mcfarlane's and only kept Hush and Knightfall Batman. Pricey but totally worth it in my opinion, only complaint I have is that there is no Mafex Deathstroke and Talon!! Also really love how they scale with the Marvel Legends stuff since I collect some of those too.
Mafex is definitely a step up over McFarlane and ML. Welcome to the line.

I've always been highly interested in MAFEX for the DC figures but man o man is that $100 price point hard like for a 6 inch figure
They run $55-60 usually. Buy from Japanese retailers.

I've had two Mafex Gambit's and both of the hands that have the peg for the card effects broke. You have to use the stand they provide to help support the card effect.
Glad you have picked up Mafex Big Nerdy! Its great that they have been reissuing older hard to find ones - I highly recommend the Hush Nightwing - one of the best 6 inch scale Nightwing figures ever!
Maybe next time you use the Wolverine figure, you swap out the clawed hands and put them on the correct side? Seems pretty clear from the video that the left hand is on the right arm and the right hand was put on the left arm. It looks really terrible. :D
I own four Mafexs all the ones I've wanted: Jim Lee Magneto, Hush Batman (Black & Gray variant for the gargoyle stand), Nightwing, and Cyborg Superman. All of them are just AMAZING. I keep messing with Magneto, Batman, and Cyborg Superman given those damn capes are always fun to pose around. I'm content with the four but I might get the upcoming Rogue, and if they ever tackle it a Batgirl (Cassandra Cain).
Right now, the only Mafex figure I have is Bane Knightfall, just to FINALLY have a super-poseable Bane that scales properly with the rest of my 6-inch DC stuff. If the Knightfall Batman gets reissued in black and dark grey, or the brown-suit Wolverine gets reissued, we may be in business again.
I like the idea of figure/product reviews on your channel! If you open things for your collection that you are also selling through the store, might make people want to buy it more!
Yup, had that same thing happen to my gambit, his heavy effects wore him out. I was happy for the reissue.

If you collect 1/12 figures, you really ought to check out the Mafex stuff. Some of the best stuff out there in the scale.

Finally got the 23 Jordan bulls mafex. Mafex is my dc go to. The gambit is easily one of the best marvel figures across all brands
Black suit spidey heads are absolutely different. Very McFarland-esq with the big eyes and the other head is squinted for sure
I personally prefer amazing yamaguchi vs mafex when it comes to marvel for the most part. Mafex marvel figs are good but I don't like the coloring on the uniforms all the time aka Cyclops. Their DC figs...I dig a lil bit more over yamaguchi as they aren't as anime inspired face sculpt wise. I don't mind the anime inspired sculpts so much on their Marvel offerings. Go figure. However Flash and Zoom from yamaguchi...niceeeeee! I'm getting the re-released Deathstroke. Possible unpopular opinion but I think Mafex's catwoman is better then yamaguchi's unless u looking for some cheesecake in which case...go yamaguchi.

I only have Star Wars Mafex, and they do Mandolorian figures the best. Their original trilogy Boba Fett releases are still the best versions. Their QC has always been hit and miss, but more hit recently then not. For many other Star Wars figures I prefer the figuart versions.
Something I've always wondered, Big Nerdy... and maybe you know. When they do a 're-run' of these figures, are they actually busting out all the same tooling, molds, paints, paint-masks and etc and packaging etc, and going to town? Or, are they assembling new figures from parts set aside from an earlier larger run they didn't assemble and ship? That is keeping in mind the figure is unchanged from the original... no fixes etc.
they’re pretty much remakes using the old tooling. the cool thing is, they actually upgrade the figures sometimes as well which makes the rereleases better. the rerun of 075 spider-man, for example, has significantly better paint colours because I guess they learned over the years how to do it better
I just became a member of your site I think it was yesterday or two days ago find your shows very good and I love them just so you know I know I'm being a fangirl or whatever you wanna call it umm The thing is with venom and carnage venom is not carnage's brother venom is carnage's father it's a little different than brother my friend that's all that's all the mistake it made it I just wish that MAFEX figures were costing a little less I mean having a figure that cost three times the price as a marvel legends figure is a bit much I know they're posable and they have cloth capes and I absolutely love them myself I haven't picked one up yet but I'm going to but I believe they should be within the price of the other competitors because I would like to see McFarlane toys go down I can't stand them thank you hopefully maybe the guy who owns MAFEX would read this and kinda lower his price cause it's figures are awesome the price is not however thank you

My Gambit has the exact same problem with his hands. So disappointing when there is so much hype over a figure and then you can't even display them without the hands fall off. I currently am not even bothering with the massive card throwing effects until I have a bigger display area. Staff in one hand and card in the other for now.

I think the issue with your Gambit might be a one off OR something related to the newest batch. Maybe some mold degradation at play? But not all Mafex are great. They have issues like any other JP figs. Overall they are higher quality b/c of the paint and washes that bring out definition. QC wise though they are okay. Not amazing, not horrible. Just okay. I own quite a few Mafex and I'm like "meh" on most of them.
My Knightfall Mafex Batman though...TOP TIER. One of the best figures I own hands down. I wish they would release it again in some paint variant colors like different comic pages were. It's just fantastic!

Big Nerdy! Question!!! You mentioned in one video 30% profit margins is good for selling toys... I believe you mentioned you made 10% profit from $1.5 million in sales last year.... so would that be considered good? Can you make another video explaining how you factor in costs, expenses, profit margins etc.
Every time I went on the hunt for a mafex (in store) I always found a sweet three zero or or SH figurarts and end up missing the mafex. That gambit tho 🔥
I wish I could collect every Mafex figure but my space is very limited. I only collect the figures I have a personal connection with
I recently got my first mafex, I got the john wick chapter 4 figure. it's pretty good though it coulda used better knee and ankle articulation. I do want to get the mandalorian 2.0 figure as well but he's getting a bit hard to find and pricey.

Heck yea! over the last few years ive cut back the collection to just my main favorites and teams....in doing so ive gone with most mafex and a couple mezco / shf since im not buying new releases constantly.. Id rather have one really good batman/ spiderman etc than a couple legends/etc.
I guess quality control is an issue with these. My first Mafex was the Huntress figure and ended up being my last. Like the Gambit, its hands just slid off. The neck joint was stuck to the head rendering the second head useless. The hair sculpt on the first head pressed against her back leaving no mobility for the neck. Finally her belt just fell apart. All that straight out of the box. 😢

Fantastic video Matt. Your timing on this video couldn't be any better. I am an exclusive Marvel action figure collector always looking for the best variant of the character I want. I am currently in the market to update my Legends with updated products. I couldn't have agreed with your opinions from the unboxing. Some Mafex are really good, like the Black Symbiote Spidey, but then there are others that are lacking in certain qualities. I love your guest-stars too. Hopefully they can become a staple in some of your next videos.
These reissues had known QC issues the releases of gambit before this had excipient quality

The top of the eyes are different on the Venom heads: one is straight and one is curved.
The back muscles are called lats. Wolverine has them too.

Yeah, I've seen these. I've never been impressed with this line because of the price point. Yeah, definitely better than a lot of the Marvel Legends when it comes with accessories and range of motion. It's just too much for a pick and choose collector like me

They don’t go above $70 unless you’re buying from a retailer that doesn’t distribute Mafex. Buy from the Japanese retailers.

I think the main things Mafex has on them at this point are soft goods and better paint. I think ML is closing the gap pretty well for being 1/4 the price. It's the DCMV side of things where it gets really sad.

The quality of the plastic Medicom uses is superior to the gummy plastic Hasbro uses. It allows for much better posing.
Sadly the reissues sell out too fast, by time I find out about them they're gone in 60 seconds.

@@SteveVivier did you see the video of the figures from the Medicom event last month? They both look great in my opinion. The Captain America seems to have been re-engineered since the initial prototype/photos made the rounds.

I’ve bought a few mafex but I think they’re overpriced for the most part. The don’t scale well with other figures. They run a little small for my taste.
Magneto my black suit spider man and Ben Reilly and Superman are fantastic

@@KaijuDaddyJapan They've been jacking up the prices. The last batch of preorders were like 80 bucks before shipping.
I used to have a few Mafax figures (mostly Spider-Man and Batman), but I sold off most of them because I personally found the figures aren't worth the money, or deserving of all the hype they get. The hands and feet are too small, the wrist pegs are flimsy and easily breakable, the joints get loose quickly, and to top it off, they aren't much more posable than a Marvel Legends figure. Definitely not worth four times the price of Legends and McFarlane, IMO. You even proved my point in your video as you pointed out that your very expensive Gambit figure's hands kept falling off and you broke the wrist peg. Color me unimpressed.
Definitly not worth the hype. Way to many qc issues for steeply priced figures. Its a total lottery opening a mafex.

No. Just no. I prefer the sturdier, generally inexpensive figures that Hasbro makes. If I had to choose between these 'premium'brands, I would simply not collect at all.
