  • This was the first thing I fixed on my BMW R1200c. The metal clip holding the cap on was broken. This was my first chance to really problem solve for myself on this project. I had to figure out what to do after everything went sideways.
Thanks for watching as I restore this bike I bought at an estate sale to working condition.

I have subscribed. My R1200c could do with some TLC but, same as you, I've never done anything like this before. So, hope you'll give me the courage to tackle some of it.

Thanks. It's hard because I keep running into new issues. How's your journey going?

@@newmotomech I have found a compnay who do exhaust re-chroming. but I'm hesitant . .. what if the re-chroming buggers it up ! What is that little lead that goes into the exhaust box under the bike ? will re-chroming mess with whatever that does ? . . . I am going to put this to them of course, they are the experts. But yes, re-chroming the exhaust is next.

Hi: I recently purchased a chrome cap and was wondering if I can install just the cap and transfer the old key cylinder without removing the large chrome surround. Thanks much.

The gas cap hinge has to sit under the chrome surround. That will have to come off in order to replace the gas cap. You can keep the key cylinder
