for those who don't get it: The AE85 was basically the "economy car" version of the Trueno and only had about 40 hp. Great for mileage, horrible for racing. That said, I'm sure you could mod an AE85 to be more powerful.
Some dude near me bought an 85 to get around the Takumi Tax, then he basically just swapped all the parts over to 86 parts, and he still drifts that thing around town all the time. I forget what exactly he had to do to basically convert it to an 86 but I remember the first thing he did was put in the 4AGE Engine. Apparently you can just do that on an 85. Most of the parts are interchangeable.
@@rezaulkarim9198swapping a 2j would ruin the car. the whole point of a car like an 86 is that they don’t need much power to be fast, they are very light, high revving and well balanced to handle well around tight corners. putting in a 2j would ruin the weight distribution, and affect the handling significantly

The 86 is more forgiving so it has an advantage.

I’ve always wondered why Itsuki’s driving skills still hasn’t improved over the seasons since he always hangs out with Takumi and the Speed Stars. Takumi drove his 85 like it was his own 86 and Itsuki could’ve picked up a trick or two from him or the Speed Stars.
I think if Itsuki gave his car better suspension, new tires, and maybe a turbo, he'd have a really great car. Also, I'm annoyed at the others for laughing at the guy 😤

Ok, then... - 77.5 mm x 77 mm: perfect square chamber for rally/drifting and longevity of parts (excellent for torque + power at all rpms) - SOHC 8-valve and 9:1 compression ratio: suitable limit to install two medium/large parallel turbos "3AUTT" Because the 3AU family is the old design in a square limit, parts like bolts, bearings, rods, crank, pins, rings and pistons tend to wear less than the high-spin 4AGE DOHC. Once you get forgeds, you can really explore the limits of this engine in a way you can't with the 16/20 valve engines. Seems like the cylinder block is also stronger than 4AGEs as well, so... if you buy a basic Corolla with the 1.4 litre engine you're granted for life. Don't believe in the plot armor, ok?

It's relatable to me. In 2006 I see two 1986 Toyota Camry. One is N/A and one is a Turbo. But the Turbo is cheaper. So I went with that. I noticed it didn't exactly run right because of the noise. They did advertise that it's both 2L. I did went to the mechanic and say it makes a sound when you do anything. So they search it up and the car engine is fine might need a turbo soon. I said I want to replace it I wanted to go faster. And one say your not getting any faster than you are getting it. She told me what I have is a turbo diesel. And it's much slower than the N/A. Of course my friends were there laugh at me and I was like just change the turbo and just walked away. The woman told me that you have a great buy. I said thank you but I was excited but now I am like it makes 73hp. So she told me as far as the car it's nothing much mechanically wrong with it. And respect the car. It really help me out with fuel economy. Even the fuel crisis. And I kept it til 2017 when the engine is done after 500,000 miles. I got it when it was 290,000 miles.
fast forward to mf ghost 202x itsuki is still a gas station pump jockey, in a loveless marriage with kids, and the only thing he has left to live for is mf ghost also he gained 30 lbs...
I saw cars with sohc engine, yeah honda civic sohc dragsters, and they are super fast. I dunno why they laughed at his AE85? Itsuki can tweak it or engine swap it if he has the funds.
@@dean1l_the 85 is a carburetor engine only so your right its SOHC. The 86 is DOHC is electronic fuel injection at least in Japan. I think at the time doing fuel injection in a economy car is pretty expensive at that time. So in North America the AE86(noted AE88) do have carburetor as a base but have the 4AGE( except for California that engine is 4AGEC) as an option. Edit: but we do have a AE86(only on the SR-5 trim) in North America but in the SR-5 trim and it have the 8V carburetor 4A-C and it's a 1.6. Then you have the DX trim. Same engine as the SR-5 except most cut for cutting cost like no A/C and no sway bars. That DX is coded in North America as AE85 (not to get it confused with the Japan AE-85 that it have a 1.5).

Actually, I think the ae85 only has 80 hp 50 hp less than the ae86 and if you swap the engine for even a na 2jz, it can still be competitive.
