Amazing talent. Got to see her on tour with Tears for Frears in Toronto and that show was utterly amazing. One of the best concerts I have been to and I have been to lots. Some bands you go see and you are disappointed as they don't sound any where as good as the album. Tears for Fears with Oleta were better than the album live!!!! Woman In Chains is a very emotionally powerful song. That old masculine mentality of a woman being subordinate causes so much pain and guilt and upheaval in society and to the people affected by it. This song exposes all that in a way that deeply moves the empathy within us if we are at all feeling humans. I am the son of a woman in chains. My father had that old mentality and my mother's life was not joyful as it could have been. He didn't hit her or anything but he didn't treat her very well. She passed away a very sad woman. As a child growing up watching the relationship of my mother and father it pained me so much. When I first heard this song I could not stop crying. It was cathartic and put clarity into something I couldn't understand.

I have always loved this song ever since I heard it for the first time. Since English is not my first language I did not understand 100% what the song was about. Just a couple of minutes ago I realized the song was about women like my mom and the marriage she was in. Sad to read your comment and realize that millions of other women and children are in similar situations.

Some of the best work Oleta has done but also some of the best work Tears For Fears have ever done. The juxtaposition of Oleta's voice with Roland's voice brings magic. What an amazing pairing but also, lyrically, beautiful and sad.

"Me and My Big Ideas" from the Raoul and the Kings of Spain album is also equally good.

One of the all time best voices in popular music! And she comes across as such a lovely person in this short docu. The combination with TfF was a match made in heaven. What a record, I keep going back to it, also for its epic sound quality.

Thank you Oleta, for the pleasure you gave us with your music. I had bought tickets for your concert in my hometown Groningen March 2020, the Oosterpoort, but that concert was canceled due to the corona pandemic. Greetings from the Netherlands

Every time,i hear this song and Oletta's voice,it makes me start crying.A sadness, that touches quite deep.Like Johnny Cash his version of Hurt.
Sorry to see Oletta being not that "bright and shiny" anymore,a kind of sadness, that i feel in her voice and attitude.
I wish her a lot of stroopwafels and hope to see her perform in the Netherlands again.

I know you’ll probably never read this, but thank you, Oleta Adams, for lifting this beautiful song to a higher level with your amazing voice. And thank you, Roland and TFF for writing and composing this timeless song. And last, but not least thank you Phil Collins for completing this masterpiece with your unique style of drumming. All of this together gives me goosebumps each and every time I hear Woman in Chains.

I bought the limited edition12" vinyl box set for "Woman In Chains" all those years ago (1989!). I still put it on my playlists. It sounds as good today or even better than ever. I am about to buy SEEDS OF LOVE on vinyl again. I also love her version of "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" on the 1991 Elton John tribute album TWO ROOMS. Thanks for sharing this video.

For me, one of the, if not thé, greatest modern era jazz vocalists.
Loved her (voice) ever since her album Circle Of One.
Which, in my memory, came out (or was known to me) before her cooperation with TFF.
But apparently, it was after that.
Anyway, a lovely voice, and a charming woman!

The Tears for Fears tour promoting "The Seeds of Love" album where they brought Oleta Adams along to play piano and sing was absolutely incredible and their best tour. It was filmed and released. "Going to California" concert can be found on TH-cam. It's beautifully shot with impeccable sound. Oleta's voice was incredible.

Woman In Chains should be billed as The Tears For Fears All Star Band. It features not only this amazing woman on vocals, we have Phil Collins on drums and Pino Palladino on bass guitar. Wow. Just Wow
