In this video I talk about my first year at Chapman University Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. I go into depth about classes, applying, sets, resources, connections, and meeting other students. I'm a Film Production major so anything I talk about in this video is directed towards my major. So far i've had a great experience at Dodge and am blessed to be at a top film school. I’ll be attending the Graduate production design program at Dodge next year. I was supposed to attend this fall semester but I deferred a year because of it being online. I’m an interior designer based in New York so I didn’t want to commit to going to school if it was just going to be online whether for a semester or two. When visiting Dodge I was just amazed at the campus and the facilities the school had to offer. I was also accepted into AFI but ultimately decided on going to Dodge because it seemed to offer a lot more than other schools I visited. It looks like an amazing school to attend!
hkaiser you definitely picked the right school especially since you’re attending the production design program! I love the program and they have a lot to offer for PD compared to other schools. I’m also defending a semester bc of online so I hope to see u next semester :)

I am an upcoming transfer student and I hope to see you on campus this fall (hopefully we’re on campus haha)
The transfer experience here has been god awful. Connect with some other transfer students or you'll be left in the dust. Hope you're film production, good luck!

Heyy so I have a question, Chapman is one of my top school I want to apply for in the fall (Ill be a senior in high school then haha) if you dont mind saying what was you gpa,act and/or sat scores? Also I know grades and scores are important but are they more focused on the talent and etc. more than grades for film school?
I got in for this fall, my gpa was a 3.8 and I didn’t submit any test scores but I applied for business admin
hi! i’m interested in applying to chapman and studying screenwriting, however I noticed on the website that screenwriting majors can’t minor in film production and I would also like to try and learn some things abt the production aspect of film. I was curious abt the amount of screenwriting you do in your production class. How often do you guys focus on writing? Also, are there any minors that you would suggest w screenwriting?
Yes unfortunately you can't minor in film production but you can minor in production design which is apart of the film production program. With production design you create the visual aspect (props, set) of the film. Also, you can still take film production classes if you're a screenwriting minor all you have to do is ask the professors (my friends have done that). As for the film production major, we are required to take screenwriting our freshman year and after that we mainly write scripts on our own time or collaborate with screenwriting majors.

How’s it now 6 months later? How has COVID affected classes so far?
Hey COVID has definitely taken a toll on classes (which is basically all college at the moment not just Chapman). Fall semester is currently online with the option of doing hybrid classes. There are no concrete updates about the upcoming semester because of the various uncertainties.
@@itzmebrianna I'm thinking of applying to Chapman, UCLA and NYU. Do you think it stacks up?
@@mdlafilms2455 Yes all are great film school options and Chapman is actually one of the top 5 films schools. I don't know for sure about UCLA and NYU but from what i've heard is that unlike those film programs Chapman is more of an immersive experience and allows for student freedom on sets, while others are more traditional and restrictive. Again can't speak for other schools but I believe that Dodge allows for student's growth and sets students up for success.

Film Production sounds like your best bet. It has a focus on cinematography.
