Several years after Cerami, the Normans and the Saracens of Sicily faced off in another important engagement: Misilmeri, in 1068. Roger of Hautville led his knights in an effort to throw back a powerful force led by Prince Ayyub of the Zirids.

Some people like bowling or working on cars. Normans were into conquering. It was kind of their thing.

It was everyone's thing back then. As long as there's a Power Vacuum, people are bound to fight over it. Muslims fought other Muslims for that reason.

Why were the Normans so overpowered? It seems that these guys smash through everybody with ease.

You always hear about the knights ‘crushing’ armies with just a few charges, really makes you think how those really looked and felt even by the men that just ran

Also, props to the Anglo-Saxons at Hastings, who made it a near run thing while using a sightly outdated fighting style, though they obviously still lost. 11th century Normans had significant tactical advantages over their adversaries, not unlike the Roman advantages from the late Republic.

Normans were obliged through their strong obedience of Christian Faith, and ruthless cunning. They perceived hemselves foremost as liberators, while creating their sovereignty. Forging their principality through battles with tried and tested tactics. Normans had no equal, they're the best. And that was their drive. Unfaltering ambition driven by trust and love in God. A fundamental aspect of being a Crusader.

Normans had heavy armor and a superior cavalry that's why they crushed the Saracens even after being surrounded .

Misilmeri/(Mussulumeli in Sicilian) the town of my paternal family. My family name is written in documents as being the Latin tongue/ Roman Catholic families from Northern Italy of Lombard desent who resettled Sicily shortly after the Norman conquist. This as opposed the indigenous Greek Sicilians/Byzantine families who were also documented in census. My paternal family from Misilmeri, as well as other Sicilians, bare the blue-eyed/ lighter hair genetics from both the Lombards and Normans.

Another awesome video as always you guys!
I have a bit of a request for you. I recently re-purchased from Amazon a BBC series called "Warriors", which is also known by the alternate title "Heroes & Villains". It is a docudrama that contains a total of six main episodes, with two bonus episodes about Hannibal and Genghis Khan, and it is really trying to get its historical accuracy correct by drawing on all of the sources that were written by the accounts of the time and the advice of modern historians. One of the main episodes focuses on Richard The Lionheart and features actor Steve Waddington as King Richard. If it's at all possible, I'd love for you guys to watch that episode and then do a podcast where you judge its historical accuracy and/or analyze it. Please let me know if you'll at the very least consider this request.
