I went to high school from 1987-1989, if you drove a Prelude to school, you know your parents had money and you knew that the driver had taste in a great car!

that's a rare car. Most preludes of this gen that I saw on the roads in NJ were the mid-level Si. Back in the mid-90s when i was in college, the prelude VTEC a dream car for me. I had a 95 civic coupe, which was also a fun ride, but the prelude vtec (especially in azure green) was the car that you would aspire to get once you graduated college, got your first professional job and could afford an approx. $25k sports coupe. At that price, you got a really nice ride back then and cars of that price range were considered nice cars in the 90s. Then cars in the $40k range were the next step up and if you were seen in cars of that price range, it meant you were considered decently affluent. As far as japanese offerings, we're talking cars that were involved in the Japanese sports car wars: nissan 300zx, mitsubishi 3000gt, toyota supra, etc. Honda, unfortunately didn't offer a true sports car to compete with these cars at the time. If you wanted a nicer sports car than the prelude but wanted a Honda (or Acura) badge, you'd have to graduate to the Acura NSX. But I loved the prelude, especially this gen and the one before it. Hang on to this one. I hope the paint is in decent condition. Unfortunately, so many Honda's of this era have paint that is now in less than decent condition, especially with the awful-looking peeling clear coat.

My 3rd grade teacher in 1998, Mrs. Cleary (late 50's at the time) drove a 94 Prelude Si in this same red color with dark tints. My friends and I had no clue who owned it but would pass it everyday admiring its looks and wanting to take a ride. When we left school late one day and saw our mousy 5 ft nothing teacher revving the hell out of her Prelude before zipping out of the parking lot, that's when we really learned you can't judge a book by its cover.

I'll never forget being taken for a ride in one of these at the time. Even the smell of the interior was better than other new cars. I asked to drive it and not only was the ride very pleasant, shifts and power delivery were very smooth.
It was so good I didn't mind the lack of power in the 4 cylinder.

Such a great car. I had an immaculate 2001 back in the day...I ADORED that car. Was the first nice car I got on my own. It was totaled on a Thanksgiving night coming home from work and I hadn't even made the first payment on it. I was absolutely heartbroken. LOVED that car. That was 15-20 years ago now (my God...how time flies...) and is probably why I'm so paranoid about my cars to this day. One little "oops" and you're flipping through the trees. One thing I CAN say is that Honda DOES make one HELLUVA safe car!! Flew off the road, rolled at least once, flew through a bunch of trees and I literally didn't have a SINGLE SCRATCH on me!!

I own one for 17 years. Very reliable, very beautiful and for twisty roads is better than most cars ever made. Double wishbone front and rear. 10 ball joints. Perfect weight distribution, good wheelbase. This car was made for cornering. Just as fast as my s2000 but much easier to drive for average drivers. The only bad points are the rusty rear arches and sunroof . Once you change quarter panels and glass sunroof from next gen car is basically faultless. Of course properly maintained ones not ghetto "masterpieces" like most of them are these days Very very underrated car .

Beautiful car. Timeless design. That 4WS option makes it stick to the road like glue through the slalom coarse. Hard to believe this is a 30+ year old car.

Honda could release this car today and it would not be able to be kept in stock. Providing the dealers didn’t pull their usual nonsense.

I didn't even remember that you could buy the Si with an automatic gearbox. Yeesh. Why?

I remember the automatics were depressingly common.

The 4WS was reincarnated in the Acura RLX as P-AWS.

Honda also needs to bring back some of it's best selling colors. Copper Brown metallic is one of them.

Just saw the new 2025 Prelude concept.....I'll reserve judgment until it's in production, but I see nothing exciting about it

No mention at all of the 4 wheel steering? Wrong title perhaps? I wonder did this tester have it?

Bring back the Prelude. And if you do, for God's sake, please don't bring it back as an suv with a tiny 1.5 turbo motor.

It's coming back as a true coupe (two doors) and as a hybrid (probably with the Accord hybrid powertrain).
