You would glue them together. Then you would place a "Kaula" or a string/rope around to "hide" the glue markings and to just be able to hold it, as it would have room for your hand to fit inside the kaula.
I did hula as a child and my ipu was a single gourd and round not two parts. These are gorgeous!
