2 things: so apparently I forgot a certain enemy, being the special red guard soldier who has a ton of health and posture along with unique moves. I'm sorry for missing him, if I were to place him on the list he'd probably come in at number 5 or 6. Also, I am now aware that you can defeat the infested seekers by using the mortal blade, as many of you have brought that to my attention.

That's the Red Guard equivalent to the Ashina Generals; you can find one near the moat, dueling an Ashina General, and one near where you fight the Red Guard Drunkard miniboss (whose name I forget) on the path down towards the Headless.

The reason that the Okami with Katanas have the combo that resembles Genichiro's is because it's the same combo - Geni learned it from an exiled Okami (Lady Tomoe)

100% agree on the Generals at number 1. They were the first enemy in the game to give me that feeling that i was actually in a sword fight. I also just started Elden Ring and picked the Samurai class and in honor of this masterpiece of a game i called him 'General Tenzen'.

The Generals are a great learning tool early on in the game, they were super tough on my first playthrough but I eventually got better at them and now I always do Doujun’s quest so I can fight red eyed Jinzaemon who has the generals moveset but in a beefed up version which is pretty fun.

Fun Fact about the Black and White Spear Monks: Depending on the RNG, sometimes they'll use a sweep to trick you and use a thrust right as soon as you jump in the air. If you deflect the thrust, their posture gets broken instantaneously.

I think one of the most flawless ways to make you feel like a badass in videogames is when the enemies that you are fighting and eventually managing to defeat are actually badass and not pushovers. Being able to stand your ground with them. From Software nails that better than most action game companies.

I like how the techniques in the game used by wolf and enemies are traced back to their teachers and signify associations between characters and locations.
Ichimonji from the Ashina clan and Isshin
High monk and senpou kicks as seen connecting the Interior ministry ninja to Senpou Temple and Mt. Kongo
Floating passage, learned from the Pot Noble Harunaga in Hirata Estates, is used by Genichiro and the Okami clan
I also suspect that Sabimaru (rustblade) has connections to the use of poison by the Loneshadows (Particularly Masanaga) and the ministry rats. The Sabimaru connection is a little more obscure, but basically the Ministry Ninja have conflict with the Snake Eyes clan, who are said to be descendants of Okami (of which poison was used against). The Ministry Vilehands who use poison blades are found in Mibu (past Snake eyes, on the way to O'rin, Corrupted Monk, and the entrance to the Fountainhead) and at the entrance to Sunken valley (lone shadow Masanaga). It seems, late game, that the Ministry sought either to access or block off the Sunken valley (resting place of the serpent and its viscera), either to procure means to end the cycle of immortality or utilize it.
The info broker Fujioka, who is aligned with the ministry, has information memos on both Sabimaru and the sunken valley apparation O'rin.
The Nightjar reversal skills are used by the Nightjar, notably less obscure.
Owl uses whirlwind slash, shadow rush, and a few other abilities he clearly taught to Sekiro.
The Martial arts used by Lady Butterfly and the Ministry Ninja are quite similar, with both being found at Hirata estate and both having association with Owl.
A few of the lone shadows use senpou sugars and drop grave wax, associated with Senpou and their practice of the Occult.
Blackhat badger sells the anti air deathblow scroll and likewise hates nightjar shinobi, who the anti air deathblow is useful against.
Although not directly about technique, I think it's worth noting that many of the key ending items for removing immortality from Ashina (the serpent viscera and the White lotus) are found in the sunken valley, which is guarded by the Snake-Eyes clan. Likewise the ministry ninja have techniques to use against the Snake-eyes.

15:03 the reason why there’s a torch dude placed is because they can burn the high grass. The same goes for the archers with fire arrows. (You can see the burned down grass also at 18:05 )
23:05 when fighting the bell dude you will shortly notice that you deal less dmg than against other enemies. You can prevent this with using the speer prostethic. If you use the speer right after it hits the bell dude it pulls the chest plate right of his chest and now you deal the normal dmg you would do on other enemies. (You can see Astora doing what I just mentioned only in a different way at 21:00 )

  • @abrahamrangel2326
    @abrahamrangel2326 ปีที่แล้ว +43

Finally someone appreciates how good sekiro enemies are, btw here are some neat things about some enemies
The centipedes are treated as crawling enemies meaning that you can just jump over the fire and instantly kill them with a jump deathblow
You can kill centipede monks with mortal blade getting an unique deathblow animation
About the sunken valley clan members with the scatter shot cannons, for some reason if you do a double jump on these guys while they roll you interrupt them from shooting and they get posture damage with the sound effect like if you jumped over a swipe attack
The medic npc that ends in the end of its quest with red eyes has the moveset of a normal sempou monk but with the addition of an instant counter attack after deflecting you
The lone shadows might be monks, this only a personal theory. Their model is like the one used for monks and the combination of kicks and sword fighting are more likely to be the perfection of the high monk skill, even the animation they do to stand back up after not engaging to do the swipe kick is the same wolf uses if you only do the first kick
All of the red guard guys are vulnerable to fire like most of enemies, but they are the only normal enemy in the game that doesnt have a panic animation trying to extinguish the flames when they get burned
The taro troops with hammers have all the same moveset, but the attack they do after getting damaged enough is different, the ones with the iron club do a long wind up baseball hit and the ones with the wooden mallet go berserk doing fast hits with one swipe attack between them making it very difficult to counter, at least for me. By the way if you break the shield of the taro troop wielding it you cant apply the puppeter ninjutsu on him
The taro troops with bell are the only normal enemies with a grab attack that ignores the umbrella shield protection
There is an unique okami on top of the rooftops of the area, if you face her she will use both bow and sword mixing her attacks and shots, is a very subtle difference but is appreciated
The monk with spear might be my favourite enemy, is so complete and has it all, single attacks stopped by a single deflect, flurry attacks that end with a thrust attack, a grab thrust attack, one swipe attack and is good at dodging projectiles.... But on top of that lets add that the last monk you see in the game (the one you can spy) is different from the rest because there is only another one like him (on the memory of hirata state)... What is so different about them? Well they have the same moveset and all but when they do the swipe attack you have to time your jump because if you dare to jump before the kanji dissappears they suddenly cancel their attack and do a thrust attack while you are on the air launching you away, its so good how this takes you by surprise and what is better is that if you jump and deflect their counter thrust you do a MASSIVE amount of posture damage that is going to break their posture, so this is the only enemy that rewards the player for ever doing a jump deflection and that sells it for me
Some endgame enemies step back if you jump towards them not letting you engage with a jump attack
Thanks if you read everything, here is a fun fact:

If you are enfeebled by a palace Nobel you can actually recover by killing and eating a palace nobel. You need to dodge them when they attack and then counterattack. As long as no other enemy is around it is pretty doable. It is a pretty neat mechanic because it is used well.

The infested monks are actually killable once you get the mortal blade! I think that they were meant to show you how to finish off reviving enemies (pretty much just them and the giant ape, I guess. That mechanic could have stood to be more fleshed out in the late game). If you return to the main hall from the inner sanctum, they'd be right in your way. It's just that they also added a idol in the inner sanctum. Without that, you fight these guys, can't kill them, get the sword, and immediately fight one, and suddenly you *can* kill them.

Then there’s the rarer kind that has health comparable to the sword Okami warriors that will switch to their sword through a lunging stab, especially if they get some damage and posture built up. My first death in NG+1, after beating Geni and the first General without even resurrecting, was the two chickens beside the frail woman who conspired to boot me off the ledge
I didn't have the axe when I first went through Hirata Estate, so the shield bandit fights were actually tough tests of aggression and rhythm, bashing on the shields until I'd deflect their bash and punishing any swinging
I think it's particularly intelligent how much posture damage Ashina soliders take from deflecting. It very much encourages you to have a go
I do actually have a slight complaint about the Ashina generals. In the early game, I don't think it makes a lot of sense to have lots of enemies with hyperarmour during wind-up. I find it odd that essentially all of the hardest bosses (and all of the humanoid bosses) essentially never have this, aside from clearly telegraphed combos where I think it makes sense. On the other hand, the Ashina sword generals have hyper-armour on most of their swings. Early in the game, I think this discourages learning the rhythm of the fight from blocks vs deflects, whereas in fights that are harder than that, it's incredibly predictable. It's true with the drunkards as well, but they feel like they're supposed to be like that, so they get some kind of pass. That said, they don't have particularly long combos, so it teaches you that if you can't deflect, block, and manage your posture after. It does make charmless runs harder

I wanna list some of the things I think should've been mentioned in the details of the enemies that could've altered their ranking (I'm doing all this from memory) :
    1. The geckos can be actually used for amplifying your weapon, by executing them (and as far as i remember, you use a ninjitsu on them)
    2. Infested seekers (non parasite) do have another ability that SUMMONS crickets as well
    3. The centipedes are really no trouble to deal with in the slightest, you just need to either jump on them or be above them and you always have a guaranteed insta-kill
    4. Monkeys get really agitated when using the whistle, for example using the whistle near them will cause nearby monkeys to attack one another
    5. I wanna add the fact that senpou monks use their candies in order to receive an edge in combat, which is good detail for the lore of the game
Overall this is pretty minor in comparison to the entire list and the list itself is probably mostly oriented on certain opinions, but these little factors could mean something to someone (like the positioning of the crickets and geckos)

Not only are they very nostalgic, but also since they use a nodachi [Which I believe is the name for the type of sword that came before the katana in Japan's weapon history] it feels so impactful, them kind of struggling to keep the sword steady since it is so heavy and long. I also think they are very challenging for newer players and make a good introduction.
