How to make the Best French 75

  • The drink dates to World War I, and an early form was created in 1915 at the New York Bar in Paris-later Harry's New York Bar-by barman Harry MacElhone. The combination was said to have such a kick that it felt like being shelled with the powerful French 75mm field gun.

    Here you will learn how to #shake a #cocktail. Make sure to have these tools and ingredients ready to go:
    Equipment:
    Champagne Flute
    Cubed ice
    Cocktail shaker (spiritswithsmo...)
    Strainer (spiritswithsmo...)
    Jigger (spiritswithsmo...)
    Fine mesh strainer
    Ingredients:
    1 oz #Gin
    0.5 oz Simple syrup
    0.5 oz Fresh lemon juice
    3-4 oz of #Sparklingwine
    Spiraled lemon peel
    Steps:
    In cocktail shaker, add all ingredients, except the sparkling wine
    2. Fill with ice and shake for 5-10 seconds
    3. Double strain, using hawthorne and fine strainer into champagne flute
    4. Top with sparkling wine
    5. Peel a lemon swath and express oils over the glass and place into the drink

    the spirits are heavier than the sparkling wine it actually work better if you pour the sparkling wine first and add the liquors second

      It is coming up really fast! Good tip - if you are having a few people over or going to a house party, is to batch up a few servings of the gin, lemon, simple syrup mix. Then you can simply top up with your sparkling wine giving you more time for fun!
