A lot to unpack today! I feel like I was definitely overwhelmed by everything in this video lol. The units are all great, but I hope to hear a different sound from them as well, if there is. Watching just one MV is surely not enough!

NCT currently has 23 members but they will continue to expand and grow (that’s basically their whole concept).
If you want to listen to a song with all 23 members then I recommend Resonance but before you watch that one you’ll have to watch Work It and 90’s Love (since the song is sort of a remix with a bunch of NCT U songs released in the 2020 album). They’re both NCT U songs and all of the songs stated above are also part of the NCT 2020 album that was released with all 23 members.
NCT U is a unit in which the numbers of members can change every song. The U stands for united. There’s songs with only two members and songs with 9 people. It depends on the concept or style of the song.
NCT Dream is filled with the babies of the group. They debuted with 7 members who’s ages ranged from 14-17. They’re all adults now but are still the more younger members out of NCT.
NCT 127 is a group that is based in Seoul. The 127 in their name being the longitude of Seoul. They technically have 10 members but one of the members WinWin hasn’t been in the last few comebacks and has instead been promoting with WayV but SM hasn’t posted a statement about Winwin not being in NCT 127 anymore.
WayV is the most recently debuted unit and is the Chinese unit. They have 7 members.
It is also entirely possible for a member to be in multiple sub-units this being proven by Mark having appeared in NCT U, NCT 127, and NCT Dream.
They also recently added Sungchan and Shotaro to the group. They don’t have a permanent unit yet.
I don’t want to completely overwhelm you with information until you actually start diving deeper in to this group.

@@mackenzie2987 YangYang is from Taiwan, Hendery from Macau and Lucas from Hong kong. They're sovereign territories of China tho not mailand. So the members we mentioned are indeed Chinese. Ten is Chinese descent so that would be the reason why he was added to WayV.

For me, the whole point or like the core of the whole NCT brand, aside from the ‘infinite members’ is NCT U. As you mentioned, yes, sm could’ve debuted each unit independently as a group, but the NCT brand allows the ‘NCT U’ concept in which any member from any subgroup can be part of depending on who fits the track that NCT U will release. You’ll understand when you check out nct u tracks. Every track has different members. Thats really really cool for me. AND they could do these projects (nct 2018 and nct 2020) where every unit gathers together in one album. IT’S DOPE!!!! LASTLY! they also have this uniting NCT sound. I dont know what it is but it’s there in every subunit so it’s really cool. They’re all actual different groups promoting independently but they share a sound, a brand.

For NCT U's song the member who participate is base from what their company think suit the concept the most.
For NCT Dream they have sistem graduate before. If they reach the age they will go to other fix unit. But I don't know what will SM do next because fans really love NCT Dream as a group now and want them to be fix unit.
And because of age, there is 2 member have 2 unit. Example like Mark and Heechan. They are both in NCT Dream and NCT 127.
Nct Dream is a fixed unit! We just don't know how they're going to do the targeting 'young audience' when Dream is now becoming a mature group concept since that was SM's original idea.
The guy you were talking about in Make A Wish at 6:40 is Shotaro a new member. Shotaro is a really good dancer. I don’t think he’s been given an official postion sonce he technically hasn’t become part of a unit yet. Make A Wish is actually his debut. But he has been learning dance from a very young age and is really good!
13:25 Neo Zone is what that album was called. Neo coming from their name Neo Culture Technology. Their fandom color is also Pearl Neo Champagne.
Hot Sauce is the title track of NCT Dream’s first full album and it also marks the return of Mark to NCT Dream. NCT Dream had this concept of members leaving the group when they became adults and Mark being the oldest graduated first but then SM messed up and eventually returned Mark to Dream. So NCT Dream is a permanent unit with 7 members but similar to NCT U the members for each comeback might change.
If you actually plan to dive deep into NCT then I recommend that you listen to a few songs from each unit because I think it would help you learn the members names while also showing you different songs from each unit. NCT Dream actually debuted with a very cute concept as they were so young but you can really see their growth through their songs.

127 : Vogue Korea (127 is the longitude of Seoul, so this group is Korea-based, eventho some members are not Korean (canadian, american, japanese), but most of their songs are in Korean). its the first unit to debut. and the leader of NCT as a whole, Taeyong, is also a leader of this unit.
WayV : Vogue China (the newest sub-unit, yes it’s Chinese unit. members are from china mainland, taiwan, hongkong, macau and thailand). Sing most of the songs in Chinese.
Dream : Teens Vogue (this is the maknae line of NCT. debut at age 14-17. they have youthful concept. initially is a non-fixed unit, like they used to have the graduation system once any members turned 20. but last year SM announce that they canceled the grads system. cuz the fans got so attached with thw formation, and their chemistry are just unmatched. Mark has graduated but then rejoin the team. They just have their 1st full album “Hot Sauce” after 5 years since their debut, and it broke the records left and right. not only NCT records, but also SM records of all time, and some even Kpop records. just to give more reasons why they should keep 7 of them together.
U : Vogue Special Edition (this is the non-fixed unit, so another songs by NCT U have the completely different lineup. basically they just mix and match members from 127/dream/wayv who suited a song. for example if its ballad song, then they will pick the main vocalists of each units (like from home), if it’s rap then its for rappers (like misfit), or just any hiphop song they will choose mostly main dancers, or just a mix of dancer rapper vocalist who suited it). This is also the unit for the newly-debuted members like Sungchan & Shotaro in 2020, until they got assigned to a new fixed unit.
The repetitive members :
Mark : 127, Dream, he’s also in SuperM
Haechan : 127, Dream
Winwin used to promote in 127 too but since 2019 he actively promotes in WayV.
Mark & Haechan got selected to be the members of 127, but their age are also suited Dream. Also they’re talented af. So thats why.
Each units have a distinct sound, u can tell after getting to know more of their discography. Also i’d suggest guides from CLKX Fiction (NCT as a whole), Softjun (127, Dream), and Lao Gan Ma (WayV).

NCT always has these R&B, Hip Hop tones. The thing about their title tracks is that usually it takes more than one listen to really find out if you like the song or not. Like NCT 127, Simon Says, I hated at first but now it’s a song I can’t live without.
Though one thing about the group is that their B-tracks slap so hard they could be title tracks
Literally learning about NCT through the comments here. I remember trying to look into them once and being very overwhelmed and putting them on a to do list. 😂 I have all these tracks on my playlists though, so I guess that's not so bad. I only know a few members mostly through SuperM, a supergroup SM put together with NCT 127 members Mark (in Kick It, Hot Sauce) and Taeyong (in Make A Wish, Kick It), Wayv members Ten (in Turn Back Time) and Lucas (in Make A Wish, Turn Back Time), and also Taemin from Shinee, Baekhyun and Kai from Exo.
I will eventually do a deep dive and learn more, but I swear I heard Firetruck (NCT 127) and Chewing Gum (NCT Dream) around the same time in 2016 and it totally threw me off because I thought it was one group and I just had no idea what their concept was. Then I realised it was two groups and was even more confused because I recognised Mark in both... Then I put NCT on my to do list for 5 whole years.
Actual NCT fans please correct anything I got wrong there, I really scraped the back of my brain for these scraps of NCT knowledge. 😂😂

I came to SuperM because I'm an exo-l and they drove me into NCT, getting to know them and finally loving their music and the members ofc ❤️

I have no more brain space for groups, so I'm definitely not NCTzen or exo-l (or even Shawol for that matter) but I have really liked a lot of all the groups stuff over the years.

It is easier to understand NCT concept when you take NCT as a brand rather than a large group, coz honestly they only did 2 songs which include all members. But what I love about NCT is that from those subunits (or rather units, I would say), which each has their own signature sound, they can pick any combination/set of members for NCT U songs. Making NCT U so fresh and unexpected. You will never get bored with NCT.
Actually, learning NCT system is not so difficult.
NCT basically has 3 main Unit. NCT127, NCT DREAM, and WayV.
NCT U is not a fixed unit. So, any member can be a member of NCT U according to the song concepts.
And… that’s it !! I think this is very smart that they have many units. Because of this system, they can produce any genre of music.

The first guy you noticed is part of the main dance line already and he just debuted with nct last year in October he is Japanese and his name is shotaro, nct’s newest member along with sungchan, and the second guy is Lucas the one that stood out the most he is part of wayv and nct u and he his part of nct’s chinese line !! Nct has members from everywhere, China, korea, japan, the us, canada, macau, germany, thailand currently 23 and more to come !! It’s actually pretty easy once you learn everything

Thanks for checking out NCT! NCT(Neo Culture Technology) does have 23 members! They’re a group with a concept of limitless expansion, meaning they have consistently and will continue to add members to the group. They’re one full group, but divided into the 4 units you checked out here. Most of the time they promote separately like this, but occasionally come together to promote songs and albums. The reason they’re all together and not just separate groups is because the company wanted one single group that could spread and connect with different countries and with different sounds. There are some overlaps in members: Mark and Haechan are in 127 and Dream because they fit the age range of Dream, Winwin is in 127 and WayV because he’s also chinese.
NCT 127 - korea based unit, the 127 is the longitude of Seoul, Korea, 10 members (only 9 active as 1 member is busy promoting with WayV)
NCT Dream - youth based unit, 7 members, all the youngest members of NCT, called dream because they’re about connecting to and inspiring youth
WayV - china based unit, 7 members, all the members are chinese, wayv stands for we are your vision and their chinese name is weishen v
NCT U - the U stands for united, all the members of NCT are part of NCT U, it’s a rotational unit so every song has a different lineup of the various NCT members, for example “Make A Wish” is made up of 7 members from 127, Dream and WayV, but some U songs have 5 members or even just 2, it’s the unite they can unite in, the members are decided based on who fits the concept (for example the NCT U song “From Home” is specifically made up of main vocalists and foreigners from the other units because the song is a ballad about being away from home)
To answer some questions: NeoZone was the album for “Kick It”, 127 is the longitude of Seoul, the sound in “Hot Sauce” is saying menea para abajo which is spanish and loosely means to get down or shimmy down, WayV has chinese characters because they are the chinese unit, LabelV is a chinese label in SM because of the political conflicts between china and south korea.
NCT is a group with a very unique musical sound. Most people, including fans, need multiple listens to get accustomed to their sound. NCT are considered a group who really popularized and perfect the genre of “noise music” and we call their sound very “neo”.
NCT are also extremely international. More than half the group is foreign (13/23 aren’t korean). They come from a variety of countries and speak a variety of languages: Korea, China, Japan, America, Canada, Thailand, Macau, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Germany.

Okay, a lot of the comments explaining what NCT is and their concept and I will explain it too.
NCT U/NCT UNITED- (debuted in 2016) it is rational unit meaning all of the members can be in the NCT U depending on the concept that suits the members.
NCT 127- (debuted in 2016) seoul south korea based group consisting 10 members but currently 9 members, and 127 is the longitude of Seoul south korea.
NCT DREAM- (debuted in 2016)Is the unit consisting 7 young members (1999-2002) they debuted at the young age (17-14) their concept is youthful but now that they're all adults their concept is more mature now.
WayV- is the chinese sub-unit, and 7 members they debuted in 2019 (regular chinese ver.)
NCT stands for NEO CULTURE TECHNOLOGY and has 23 members as of now, they're limitless it means they will keep adding members.

Yup you have to check them chronologically from their debut in 2016 with NCT U 7th sense and see the growth of the members.
We know it’s a lot, but once you fall into nct rabbit hole you’ll love theirs music (not a typical song anyway you’ll find it hard or weird on first listen but it will grow on you)
They come from SM Entertainment, as an identity you will find various genres in one song and even very complex.

Great reaction! NCT music is always fun, futuristic and cool. And yes, they're all visuals, lol. NCT 127, NCT Dream and Wayv are fixed units (the members don't change). The name 127 comes from the longitud of the city of Seul where they're based; the name Dream comes from the goal of inspiring young people to follow their dreams (is also the unit with the youngest members); Wayv means "We are your vision" and is the chineese unit and the name of U comes from "United" bc that's the rotational unit where any member of the other units can be for a specific comeback (that's why you counted more than 23). Also two members: Mark and Haechan are both in 127 and Dream, but the final number for now is 23 like you said. The guy in the bucket hat that you liked is Shotaro, he's one of the newest members (joined 2020) and yes he's a dancing king (all of them are tbh). Lucas is the one that stood out in the WayV video to you. He was also in make a wish (the one the very beginning and the one that stared you down lol). Hi there! I know I'm a day late, and a lot of people have done explaining. However, I think this simply analogy will REALLY help, it did for me.
Think of NCT like a school.
NCT 127 are like the upperclassmen, and NCT Dream are like the underclassmen. Simple enough. WayV is another class, still part of the school, but maybe on the other side of the school. [This is showing how WayV is the Chinese subunit, and due to tensions between Korea and China, they kind of promote separately in China but they're still a part of NCT.]
NCT U is the afterschool club that anyone can join! Depending on the club [a.k.a. depending on the comeback concepts, etc.] certain skills or strengths will be selected to join for that time.
And sometimes, as schools do, they have assemblies! They have school-wide activities. But typically, students tend to work in their classrooms, save for their afterschool clubs.
If you want to have fun with it, the school could be called SM and NCT's managers could be the teachers. Point is, the school analogy seems to help other fans, so I hope this helps!

For Hot Sauce, the spanish phrase that's being repeated over and over again is "menea para abajo", which is Mexican spanish slang I think for "how low can you go?" or "get down with it"
So far you've picked really good songs and have seen everyone... EXCEPT for Sungchan. He's a new member for NCT 2020 along with Shotaro (who's in Make A Wish), but he's featured in the song "90's Love" or "Misfit". Check it out!

They're 23 but their units are like the real groups for each member that belongs to them.
Despite this *Ten and Lucas from WayV* are part of the supergroup *SuperM* along with Nct 127 member and leader Taeyong and Mark from Nct 127 and Nct Dream.
That's the whole concept behind Nct apparently tho they don't seem to be leaving their original group except for only Winwin who is currently in WayV as an official and fixed member and was part of Nct 127 up until 2 years ago. He has never performed as a part of that group ever since he joined WayV.

Resonance 2020 combining all the NCT 23 members together and I can't stop discovering all the branches after that XD, yup I agree with you, I have this stereotype minded that boyband don't supposedly to have all handsome members but NCT proves me wrong haha.

It's an SM thing, when the song suddenly take a turn that can be a whole different song. If you getvto know other SM groups, you'll see this patern. As a long time fan of SM groups, I'm not surprised anymore :-)

I know I just typed a TON, but for a general recommendation I would start with WayV just so you can focus on one group of people at a time… I’m sure it’s because I’m biased, I guess I just think they have the most accessible music and the visuals WRECK.

In Make A Wish, you really did spot one of the main dancers in the whole of NCT. for your question, why have a big group and divide it into units: nct or neo culture technology's concept is globalization / localization and expansion as a group, expansion as that they have unlimited members and possible groups and will continue to grow in number and globalization / localization in that they hope to spread out as units which solely promote for a specific country / place in order to be "localized" and received by the locals to that specific place, the first outside of korea being wayv, as a chinese unit, and another one rumored as nct hollywood, to promote in the us. because of this, all members are of varying nationalities, korean, canadian, american, japanese, thai, chinese, german/taiwanese, etc.
You should definitely watch guides on the different subunits and it should help to identify which members are in which unit. I personally got into them by watching a series called NCT Foreign Members vs. the Korean Language and it was so funny that it pulled me in

So they brought Mark to Dream because all the members are staying in the group and all the fans missed him in Dream and so did the dreamies (the dream members)
from years 2019- early 2020 you would see two dream comebacks with only 6 members and that's because those were the two years where Mark had left the group.

WayV is the Chinese sub-unit of NCT so all their songs are in Mandarin and they would have Korean or English versions to the songs.
Since WayV are a Chinese unit they would promote in China or on Chinese Variety Shows instead of Korean Variety Shows and Music Shows... Similar to what EXO did when they had EXO-M (EXO Mandarin)
However in their videos and stuff like vlogs they speak both Chinese and Korean and sometimes English (Ten and Yangyang mostly with English)
WayV debuted in 2019 so you won't see any songs from this unit from 2016-2018.
Fours of their members however debuted before WayV was formed.
Ten and Winwin debuted in 2016 when the group consisted of 15 members
In 2018, Lucas and Kun debuted along with Junwoo who is in 127 and that made the group become 18 members.
and in 2019 when WayV was formed, Xiaojun Hendery and Yangyang debuted.
Further up when I was talking about 127 I said that they originally consisted of 10 members and this is because when Winwin was once apart of NCT 127 but since he is Chinese they put him in the Chinese Unit so the group went back to nine members (127 started at 9 members them Jungwoo joined and they became 10 and then Winwin left so they went back to 9 members)

Make a wish was THE visual unit. Btw the concept of NCT is actually really GENIUS from a business point of view. Debuting a group means investing millions of money. NCT as brand continues to build reputation and fame through the different subunits. Therefore you can debut a new unit really quickly without needing to spend more money than necessary.

He's the one in WayV that did that "nasty" head bobble thing and had no shirt on - and he's actually the same one in Make a Wish who tried to seduce you 😋 HIs main unit is WayV (We are your Vision). SM Entertainment couldn't use "NCT" in the group's name due to business conflicts with China - that's also why the label name is Label V. The WayV unit was made to appeal to a Chinese audience... and everyone else as well. lol
Korea's oldest documents are written in "Hanja" which uses traditional Chinese characters, and since the title of "Kick It" in Korean means hero, I think they wanted to use the Chinese characters to give the meaning more depth and to give it that Bruce Lee vibe.

Wayv is the third most popular boy group in China and my favourite NCT subunit
I really really love NCT my ult bias is Renjun, the one with the 2 toned hair in hot sauce, of course though with this big of a group you will most likely have multiple biases which I do. Their song style is more on the experimental side with certain groups being more experimental than others, I really enjoy all of their different sounds.
NCT U is a rotational unit meaning the members change based on the concept each comeback. The other Units NCT 127 NCT DREAM and WayV are fixed units so nobody will be leaving or joining, honestly I know the big number and NCT's concept may scare off some people but it's not as hard as it may first seem. Surprisingly I learned 23 names and faces in about a week but that is probably because I binged watched guides and funny videos for a week straight.
*NCT 127 AND NCT DREAM* have 2 members that are in both units because NCT Dream at first meant to be a graduation type unit for younger members, so when they got old enough they would graduate out of that unit and move into a different unit but that changed like last year. Mark the oldest of Dream did actually graduate and he was gone for about 2 years then he was brought back when NCT dream got changed to a fixed unit, so he is missing in some content around that time.
WayV is a chinese subunit, also all of the members of WayV are multilingual with some of them speaking 5 languages.

Depends on the song's concet, which member will suit the concept the most. That's why you'll see some members from NCT U in the different units.

Hey as a newer fan I have a few tips for anyone in the comments who are interested in getting to know nct better 🙂
First look up a fan chant (it's in age order except the leader taeyong) . I listened to it on repeat and I memorized all their names and knew their age order within 3 days. Then I watched nct world 2.0. all the members have indavidual missions which helped me match names to faces. Then I watched all their mv to learn their positions. Then I watched all the shows for the individual units. Wayv had one called dream plan. Nct dream's newest one is 7llin. And the episodes of NCT life are fun too. It took less than two weeks for me to know all names, positions and personalities. I hope this helps a little

yeah Label V is the Chinese label under SM which they basically made for WayV specifically so that WayV could promote in china more easily, because there are political tensions between Korea and China which could make it difficult. It seems things have gotten better more recently and WayV is much more obviously included in NCT, whereas when they debuted they seemed a bit more separated
