1q84 was my first Murakami and will forever hold a special place in my heart .

1Q84 is one of the best books I’ve ever read. Even though it is long, I found myself slowing down when reading the last 100 pages because I didn’t want it to end!

Absolutely! I almost want to start rereading it again now..

The Vanishing Half is an overhyped lemonade.

Just found your channel and I love it. In my personal canon, 1Q84 is number three, only topped by 2666 by Bolaño and Solenoid by Mircea Cărtărescu.

Thank you! Both 2666 and Solenoid scare me a bit. Is the latter a complicated read?

@@becomingabookworm both are demanding books, but also immensely rewarding. If you start reading Solenoid, don’t give up. The ending is truly mind blowing.

Your video finally made me order 1Q84 which has been in my cart for over a year. One of my book clubs read The Vanishing Half. It's not my jam, but I appreciated the opportunity to view that unique situation from their perspective. Racism can be virtually absent or really horrible in the US depending on where you live. Rural Ohio has some very racist communities. I live in a farming county full of white Trumpers. Being surrounded by racist, homophobic hicks who drive needlessly loud and XL pickup trucks with rebel flag bumper stickers is not awesome. It makes me embarrassed to live here. Every time I see a rebel flag on a truck or a shirt or something I just want to yell "hey dumbass, maybe you didn't hear -- the South lost. A HUNDRED AND FIFTY YEARS AGO." If my neighbors knew that the book club I host here every month has not one but two lesbian members (they are not a couple) as well as the mother of a trans person, they'd probably have burned down my house by now.

REALLY hope you´ll like it! It´s the first book I have ever read where I feel like I want to pick it up and read it again straight away.. I guess what you describe is the stereotypes that get´s through to the rest of the world unfortunately.. Or maybe it´s good if it reflects reality. I listen to a lot of "southern" music and I don´t always get the references in the lyrics and for the often I think it´s a good thing I don´t.. Or at least every now and then I look up phrases and lyrics from artists that I like and I end up not liking them as much anymore..

I have yet to resd IQ84, I have a mysterious mental block that stops me from dtsrting it 🤷‍♀️. I wish the Camara Lundestad Joof were available in English. Just sent my friend in Trondheim the details; I think she'll appreciate it.
