  • Stryper, my all time favorite band! Live on the Pool Stage on the Monsters of Rock Cruise 2017. This unfortunately would be Tim Gaines last show. This is the second of two shows they played on the cruise. Both sets were phenomenal!!! The audio is amazing for a live show so turn it up and enjoy!!! The Camera blew over to the left and I didn't catch it. I did adjust in part way through the set so you can see Oz after that. I have other Stryper videos from this cruise as well as other shows. Please subscribe and check out my many other live videos.
    Here is the setlist:
    I. Abyss
    II. To Hell With the Devil
    III. King of Kings
    IV. No More Hell to Pay
    V. Breaking the Law (Judas Priest cover)
    VI. Calling on You
    VII. Free
    VIII. More Than a Man
    IX. Honestly
    X. The Way
    XI. Over the Mountain (Ozzy Osbourne)
    XII. Holding On
    XIII. Surrender
    XIV. Soldiers Under Command

    It's kinda a miracle that Stryper even exists in a world where faith is so often mocked and shamed. You might disagree with the message, but you can't find fault with the musicianship. They are no cheap imitation.

    This band does an amazing job of performing their original music. So many other bands from that era cannot currently even perform their own music in a recognizable manner. Stryper is 100% squared away even after 33 years!

      I agree he's absolutely amazing!!! Oz & Timmy too, those harmonies sound great. There is a method to his madness, thats why they did HONESTLY right before, to give his voice a breather.

    My only regret is that Michael and Oz didn’t go off on longer trade off guitar solos because they had the potential to be on the KK Downing/Glen Tipton level musically and talent wise.

      It's positioned like most kits are. I know he usually positions it sideways. He does that so he has a clear view of the audience and vice versa. But the stage here is very limited on space, so I'm sure that's why he's facing forward.

      I will be 49 next week. I remember in an Independent Baptist Church the Assitant Pastor and Choir Director showed us a pic of Stryper in their tight yellow and black outfits with their make up looking like women with their long hair. I was a teen and believed they were bad cuz I was told. That was early 80s. I later grew to LOVE Stryper in the LATE 80s and 90s and STILL today. They STILL know how to ROCK!!!!!

    Robert is the meat and potatoes in Stryper. Impecable timing, and solid as a rock! He’s still a huge inspiration to me. It’s cool how he has three floor toms. I have a 16”&18” floor toms and it’s a bit of a stretch for me. I can’t imagine having an extra one. I’m waiting to see them here in Texas at the end of May. I’m gonna miss tiny Tim with them. I will still check out his other projects anyways. God bless both Tim and the rest of Stryper.

    To those criticizing the show, I see all the symptoms of stage monitor issues. The vocal hesitance, the drum mishits, they look at their instruments a lot more than at other shows I've seen. It's really hard to play and sing this stuff when you can't hear. Less professional acts wouldn't be able to do the show at all.

    FYI the Bass is an Overture brand TG Signature and Michael and Oz are playing Carvin axes. One last point - you will or should notice that in some songs Michael and Oz prove they are heavy weights in the world of dueling leads. Top three club actually. Maiden, Priest and Stryper in that order simply because of age not talent. All three have dueling lead guitarists that made rock history!

    • @steve7onfire
      @steve7onfire 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes it's true that Tim's bass is an Overture, but Mike is using here his signature Washburn V and Oz is using one of his GMW signature guitars. Mike used to use a Carvin Ultra V, loved that guitar. Still has it and I've seen it up close, beautiful man.

      Bass Polizei...Robert gets sea sick when when he would see the water. So they turned his riser so he couldn't see the water out of the corner of his eyes.

    • @basspolizei6347
      @basspolizei6347 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Monroe thanks for the explanation. However, I saw them in Dallas and OKC before seeing this and he was facing the crowd with no water even nearby. I think he wanted to change it up a bit but I wished had not because that and his playing made him different and super cool. He is the "visual time keeper." 33 or so years after first meeting them in Tulsa I met him again at OKC. I told him that we had done this exact thing in Tulsa 30 plus years ago. He bowed his tired head oddly. He then looked back at me and said "the Old Lady right?" He was right! That was the theater he had met me at 30 plus years earlier. Exhausted as he was he still was pure in thought and was correct.

    • @monroefive-o40
      @monroefive-o40 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bass Your probably right. I know it was something the guys used to rag him about.(Getting Sea Sick) so I just took it for that here. He did like to change it up in later years! I think it was just expected of him to always play sideways to the crowd that when he didn't there was some other reason why he didn't. Personally I like the change up from time to time! The guy is a monster behind the kit! I like how he has those insane spurts of wild-man! Can't get any cooler than that!

    • @melissaB.1978
      @melissaB.1978 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Robert just got tired of looking sideways and not directly at the crowd. I guess it would get boring being you playing a big arena rock show and youre not even looking at your fans. Maybe he looked just a time or two when he happens to turn his head. We use to purposely stand towards that side of the stage just so we could look at Robert face to get a good look at his playing skills from a different view !

    • @basspolizei6347
      @basspolizei6347 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe M. but it was so cool and unique like the rest of the members and band that it added that extra needed touch to make them stand out amongst the crowd and it worked. Just sad that those days are over. If your ever a drummer in a band do it. It will get you noticed and it added clarity to his claim to fame - the "visual time keeper."

    They are playing at a lower key than they would if they had been in the Verizon Center in DC, or the Baltimore Arena in Baltimore.

    Unfortunately, the sound quality is not very good but the band is incredibly tight and the vocals are spot-on. Would be nice to hear more guitar and bass. But thanks for sharing.

    First and possibly the only time seeing Robert playing facing front. It's either because of space limitations or its a rented set.

      Sound system issues. Apparently one of the monitors wasn't on. Michael couldn't hear himself, at which point he adjusted one of the pedals and also you see a sound tech running out on stage to check the connections. After the first verse apparently they got the issue fixed. Even so, after having conversed with someone that was on that cruise and saw this performance live, the sound mixing still wasn't right even if a bit better than during the first verse of THWD. Later at 20:28 Michael asks the crowd "can you hear me back there?", obviously because he could tell that the sound still wasn't what it should be, even after some adjustments were made. Being a live performer myself and having been in this exact same situation (ie, mediocre sound system, outdoor setting with lots of background white noise, cruise ship, ocean, wind) it can be nearly impossible to get a balanced sound and even worse, usually the lead singer, because he can't hear himself properly through the monitors and with no sound bouncing off walls/ceiling (outdoor setting) there is the tendency to over compensate which you can clearly hear Michael doing which puts a big strain on the voice. It's precisely for these reasons and after much experience with these types of situations that I personally chose not to perform in these types of conditions. Was just to frustrating to me as a performer. Kudos to Michael and the rest of Stryper, they definitely have more patience than I do! haha.

    If you take a photo of yourself every year you will notice it's never exactly the same. It's the same thing with audio recording. It captures a moment in time forever. So think about that every time you criticize a singer for not sounding exactly the way they did 30 years ago. So don't act so shocked when you hear the changes,

      he was let go. Depending on who you ask he was asked to evaluate his future with the band and he chose not to and went on a campaign of badmouthing the band during this "thinking what he wanted to do" time period and they were left with no choice but to let him go for not only his but his wife's badmouthing of the band among other things.
