Thank you for your work. Just have a question, if Ledger can recover the Wallet and the private key , does it mean the key are kept in their server as well ?
2 nano x 2 dim screens....if remove the acct to add recovery app. Will that acct balance / TX come right back after inst app...would like to check first
Warning: Do NOT wipe/reset device before you verify/use "Recover Check" app. I'd hate to see someone follow along w video & wipe before they verify. BTW, appreciate your channel. New sub.
FYI, I wiped out my ledger and restored it without the recovery check just fine. When you set up your device for the first time, You still have to verify each seed word that is generated, So I don't see why the recovery check is so important.
Two reasons. Firstly, Ledger only added that check to the initial workflow in the last couple of years, so many people with older devices set it up without any check at all... Secondly, folk often do things like stamp their seed to steel, or make copies... You need to run recovery check for every copy you make, as folk often introduce errors when making copies...
Note to viewers: never type your passphrase into a computer. In this example he writes "Passphrase=cat" into the account name so you can see which account it is, but don't do this yourself 😉
Yep... Certainly never do this unless you are demonstrating for a live video... Also don't put your passphrase or seed on TH-cam either, this is not a good way to back them up ;)
I have a question i got two Nano x . I set the two of them with a pin and 24 word phrase.I have not put any accounts on it. But i mix them up and i do not remember which one is with one. Can i erase both and start again?. An d if can be done please let me know. Thanks
if i setup the device as a new device and set a new passphrase how do i still have access to the cryptos? Should i transfer everything before resetting?
So are you saying that you are already using the device and want to reinitialise it with a new seed? In this case then you should to move everything off it beforehand.
Great video. Just a couple of questions: 1. If I installed the eth app after setting up the device and then set up the 25th word, should I uninstall and reinstall the apps so they're associated with the 25th word now or will I just install a second eth app and now have two sets of apps installed, one associated with the 24 words and one associated with the 25 words. Or is it one app with two accounts? 2. Will other wallets allow me to enter in my 24 words plus the 25th word to access the account, or are they limited to 24 words? 3. When setting up a second ledger, do I set it up with the 24 words then add the 25th word that matches the 25th word on my first ledger and that will give me access to the same funds? Thank you
1. You don't need to reinstall any apps on the ledger, these will use whatever keys are active in your Ledger at any given time. 2. With Ledger, any wallet that can work without a passphrase will work the same with one. (Like above, the ledger will just represent whatever accounts are active at the time) The main catch with 1 and 2 above is that for wallets like Metamask, Ledger Live, etc, where you "pair" the device, basically the pairing will represent which ever account was active at the time of pairing. (So if you add a passphrase, you will need to add the new accounts for that, I explain this in my video on juggling multiple ledger devices) 3. For a second device, you would restore the seed as per normal and then enable passphrase on the second device as well.
@@CryptoGuide awesome. Thanks for the reply mate. I got my ledgers up and running and confirmed my accounts are on my 25 word as trying to view the receive address while using the 24 pin resulted in an error where as it didn't when I was logged in on my 25 pin. It's quite daunting the first time but I've got it going now. Thanks again.
Yea passphrase is certainly an advanced feature, but as long as you take the time to understand it and make sure you don't have a typo in the passphrase, it is fine.
Another great video. I realise people like to keep videos short however my preference would be for slower talking which I think would make things easier to grasp.
Hello, is the recovery Check app safe? Because you type in your seed phrase somewhere (your ledger). Can you use it too double check sometimes without any doubt of someone steal you phrase?
Thanks so much, I updated my firmware ledger live and when it was done all my assets disappeared, then I recovered with 24 words but my assets are still gone I panicked during the firm upgrade and disconnected everything no assets check the block chain everything still there only btc n bch missing, any suggestions, thanks so much.
@@CryptoGuide i noticed that on ledger live my xrp has a different address now do u think I should send something to that address and it would activate im going to try it
Ledger Nano devices check their genuineness each time you connect them to Ledger Live. (Devices like Trezor don't do this) The device should not come with any seed phrase or pin written at all, as this is a common scam. The Ledger will generate it fresh the first time you use it and you can wipe it an get a fresh seed (and new wallet) as many times as you like before depositing your funds. (If you want to generate a new seed after depositing funds, you will need to manually move them to the new seed)
@@CryptoGuide Thank You very much. The thing is that I am in Venezuela and it's difficult to buy from here but there is a store that sells them but I always read that one must Buy direct from the ledger, I asked them and they assured that the devices are sealed, new, bougt direct from ylthe ledger , but who knows
Yea the design of the Ledger is such that buying it from a reseller is less of an issue, as Ledger Live will reject it if it was tampered with. (This is why Ledger doesn't worry about security theater like tamper evident stickers, etc) The main thing to be sure of is that you are generating a fresh seed, not using any pre-configured one that comes with the device.
I have a very stupid question. Literally new to the crypto world so go easy plz. When I buy BTC or ETH and transfer to a ledger does the price fluctuate as it normally would while stored in my ledger ?
No problem, everyone has to learn. Once you exchange cash for crypto, the amount of crypto you have will stay the same, regardless of where you store it, but the value in dollars will move as the rest of the market fluctuates. (Eg: if you exchanged dollars to BTC and got 0.1 BTC, then you will have that same 0.1 BTC stored, even if the dollar value shifts)
@@CryptoGuide ahhh ok so its strictly a method of storing and nothing else. That's neat because I'd hate to have my crypto being "at risk" depending where I buy that crypto from, cool. Well hey thanks. Do you think a Ledger Nanos X is a good one to get? I know the halving put a sale on the S version but was curious on someone else's opinion. If you don't mind.
@@CryptoGuide let's say I have 2 BTC & 3 ETH stored in a ledger. If BTC or ETH skyrocket, if I choose to transfer from the ledger back to like coinbase as an example would my amount of USD be at where the market is at during that moment ?
Both the Nano S and Nano X are great devices and are basically the same from a security and feature standpoint. (As you can see here: cryptoguide.tips/hardware-wallet-comparisons/) The key differences are that the Nano X works far better if you are using your wallet primarily with your mobile. While you can connect a Nano S via a USB OTG cable if you have an Android phone, it is super clunky. (And doesn't work at all if you have an iPhone) The Nano X also supports more apps, so is useful if you want to have a tonne of altcoins. If you just have BTC+Eth and are happy to interact with your wallet via a desktop PC (or Android phone sometimes) then the Nano S is great, especially given the 50% off deal at the moment. If you do decide to buy one, if you make your purchase using this link here: shop.ledger.com/?r=5243ecbb8427 I will get a few bucks to help support the channel :)
Question I lost my nano ledger s. I still have my 24 phrases, so all I have to do is buy a new ledger nano s & put in the phrases & that’s how I will recover my cryptos? Correct ?
Hello, Thank you for your great vid. One quick question, if I’m not sure if the Ledger Nano X I’ve bought is brand new, how can I perform a Master Factory Reset to be sure? and if I can feel safe after performing a Master Factory Reset. Thank you again!
Just get the pin wrong three times and it will wipe it. Just be clear that any funds already on addresses associated with the device won't automatically move, so you will need to move them off first.
Congratulations for your awesome content. I just have one question : if a hardware reset is needed, once I have entered my 24 words recovery passphrase, how do I get access to the hidden wallet with the 25th word ? Do I have to go to the "attach to a pin process" again and enter the same pin and 25th word as when setting it up the first time ? Sorry for the stupid question. Thank you very much.
Thanks. :) If you reset and recover, you will need up set up the passphrase, but it doesn't need to be assigned to the same PIN as before. As long as the seed and passphrase are correct, setting the PIN to something else doesn't matter. (I cover this in a video that looks at seed phrase, passphrase, pin and password)
Is the passphrase element common amongst other hardware wallets? i.e. In 50 years if Ledger goes bankrupt and I need a new device, could I easily redeem my 24 seed + passphrase from other hardware wallets? What if other wallets only have the 24 seed redeem feature in their software and not the passphrase feature as well? Thanks very much for the content :)
A BIP39 passphrase is part of BIP39, so is supported by a range of other hardware and software wallets. The only caveat is that some vendors have limitations of things like passphrase length. I include details like passphrase support on the spreadsheet part of my hardware wallet comparison here cryptoguide.tips/hardware-wallet-comparisons/
If it's just random characters then you are basically screwed. If the characters have some structure, are a substitute for letters, etc, then it's doable.
Normally the sheets you write them in will also have numbers to remove the kind of ambiguity. If you are unsure, you will just have to try entering it both ways, it's likely that only one will work. (And either way, only one will have your funds)
In regards to the "pin-code passphrase (not normal pin-code)", so let's say I am recovering my seed phrase + passphrase do we need to always use that specific pin-code that we originally set up with in order to access any funds tied to that passphrase account/25th word, or can we assign a different pin-code to the passphrase/25th word upon new recovery?
You can assign the BIP39 passphrase to any pin you like. You can do change the secondary PIN and passphrase associated with it at any time. (Though this doesn't automatically move any funds that are already associated with a given seed+passphrase)
So my Ledger Nano S is suggesting a word opposite to the one I have written down. I know I don't have the wrong word because I've used this phrase before and it went through, in fact, my nano ledger suggested the correct word, but now it's not, is there any way around this?
The word list hasn't changed, so it is probably you making a mistake somewhere. Have to tried looking through the words that the Ledger suggests, as it will often suggest several. All the BIP39 words are unique based off the first four letters, so you can easily look at the BIP39 word list and check the first four letters of what you have written down to double check that it is a valid BIP39 word. (github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0039/english.txt)
I lost my recovery phrase but still know the pin# but it won't let me move my assets to another wallet because it needs a software update but it won't let me update the software without having me to confirm that I have recovery phrase written down. Any suggestions?
I updated the btc and few other apps in ledger before knowing that i need to delete apps before update. The ledger live now shows new apps like btc , ltc.... with different address compare to the old one. Can you tell me what the risks for what i have already done. I am new to crypto and trying to learn.
I HAVE A LEDGER S AND FORGOT THE PIN BUT HAVE THE PASSPHRASE BUT CANT INSTALL THE RECOVERY APP ON THE LEDGER BECAUSE I CANT UNLOCK IT TO BEGIN WITH TO PUT THE APP ON.. WHAT DO I DO?
I should also let you know my ledger is from 2018... and i cant get into it when i plug it in my pc because i can't unlock it.. im afraid to get the pinn wrong for the 3rd time.. again i do have the recovery phrase but according to this video, i need the recovery app installed on the ledger to even put the phrase into? is that right?
If you have the recovery phrase then you can simply restore that on to the device. (And if you have forgotten the pin then it will need to be wiped, after which it will prompt you to either create a new wallet or restore an existing seed)
Very informative content, thank you @Crypto Guide. Got a question here, I chose only 18 recovery words, will that be ok.Also there are double entries of words which means 2 same words. any problem with that later on. Please advise and thank you.
Love your videos! hoping you can confirm the order of operations. I set up a new wallet - create a pin and write down my 24 word recovery phrase. i have done this so far and transferred a small amount of coins to test and received them successfully. can i now go ahead and create a passphrase and associated pin or will that affect my original wallet? i have been hearing mixed statements about this, as i understood it the 24 word recovery will still apply to this first wallet i made, and each passphrase simply makes new wallets only access with the 24+1 words. thanks!
Adding a BIP39 passphrase doesn't change your existing accounts at all, but instead creates a whole new set. I suggest you watch my video on the difference between seed, passphrase, password and PIN.
@@CryptoGuide Thanks for the reply! i thought that was how it worked, i had watched the video you recommended but wanted to confirm as i heard some conflicting information on a couple r/cryptocurrency threads. thanks again!
@@CryptoGuide Sorry one more thing, just to confirm. I set up a new wallet with a pin and 24 word recovery - then once in this wallet i install the recovery check and confirm i have the 24 words jotted down correctly. Then i set up a new pin and associated pass phrase to add the extra account for plausible deniability etc. i switch it to temporary passphrase, then unlock the device with the the passphrase itself to ensure i jotted that down correctly as well. if all goes well, i can switch the extra accounts back to a pin for convenience. If i wipe the device clean, i use the 24 words to restore the main accounts, and then once back on the ledger i can go to select passphrase, enter the exact same one and regain access to the extra account. have i got this correct? thanks!
You get a totally new seed every time you wipe it and there is no way to have the seed displayed a second time after you initially set it up. (This is why it's critically important that you keep your seed backup safe and secure)
Thanks for your video, it's very helpful. Hope you can help with my question below : 1. If my seed words have been exposed to scammer, can they access my Ledger wallet without the PIN? 2. Can I reset my seed words? If so, would it changed my wallet address (I have staked coins using the existing address), if resetting the seed words alter my existing wallet address, then I will lost the funds which is linked to the current address? 3. Do you have video on how to change the seed words ? Appreciate your guidance.
Your device shouldn't have come pre-initialised and should generate a new seed when you first set it up. You just get the pin wrong three times wipe it and then initialise it like a new device.
Unless you reset your device by deliberately entering your PIN incorrectly three times, is there no way to get the "Restore from recovery phrase" option?
If the hardware itself is saying that then your best bet is to contact support. Even if the device has failed, you will be able to recover with the seed.
Hello- Thanks for your helpful video. I just want to make sure I have this right. When I set up my passphrase and attach it to a new pin, will I just need to enter in the pin associated with my passphrase account or will I need to confirm the passphrase as well (when accessing this account)? Additionally, if I need to recover this account with a different Ledger, I will just need the 24 word seed recovery and the passphrase but will not need the same pin. Is this correct? Thanks again!
Once a passphrase is attached to a secondary PIN, you don't need to enter the full passphrase anymore. In terms of backups, you are right in that you need Seed+Passphrase, but the PIN doesn't matter. (You can assign a different PIN when you reinitialize the device and as long as Seed+Passphrase are the same it doesn't matter)
@@CryptoGuide OK. This answers my question above. I'm not using a passphrase. Too damn difficult. However, apparently the pin of my new Nano X does not have to match my old Nano S which I'm moving away from using? I can make a whole new PIN with my new Nano X using my 24-word seed phrase and the PIN doesn't matter, right? The only thing that matters is the 24-word seed?
Thanks for the video! I have a question to ask. As long as my 24 words and pin for my ledger stays safe. Is there ANY way I can screw things up, and loose my crypto?
The main ways you can lose crypto, other than giving your seed away are: 1) Losing your seed backup 2) Sending funds to an address on the wrong chain (eg: sending Litcoin to a Bitcoin Segwit address)
hi there I did get the message the phrase didn't match however I was already logged in with the pin. does that confirm its correct?? If I put a wrong pin in 3 times then the phrase is wrong can I go back to the pin?? the phrase is on the paperwork from the start up I just wanted to double check before I add more funds.. there's only a small amount of crypto on it.
If you are loggin in with a PIN associated with a passphrase then you will get the message that it doesn't match. (If you haven't manually enabled BIP39 passphrase then it should always match if you have the right seed) If you get the pin wrong three times you will wipe the device.
So, unfortunately I have been scammed for a small amount of crypto, as I had given my recovery phrase to a fake Ledger browser. That being said, can I still use this devise as a cold storage, for future crypto? Should I follow what you are suggesting above in the video?
I'm sorry for your loss, in the future be sure to understand that the seed is only ever entered in the Ledger Nano device. The physical Ledger Nano is fine, you just need to wipe it and reinitialise with a new seed.
@@CryptoGuide Thank you for the kind words and advise, I wish I would have listened to my better judgement talking to me at the time, ha...but you live and learn. So I can just use the instructions that are in the video above, too reuse the cold wallet again?
Yep, it's as simple at getting the PIN wrong three times and then selecting to reinitialise with a new seed. You should also annotate the old seed to be sure that you don't mix it up with the new one. You will also need to manually remove all the accounts from the previous seed from Ledger Live.
@@CryptoGuide Thank you, I have learned a valuable lesson. Thank God I didn’t lose everything I have, that would be a crushing event. I think I can manage this, but I might be back to ask some other questions in the future. Have a great day.
Thanks for the helpful videos! Please, I want to reset my Nano X, there are some coins still inside the device and if i reset device with new seed phrase, will those coins disappear or will saved? Thank you!
The balances you have are associated with the seed phrase that you are currently using, not the physical device. If you wiple the device and restore the existing seed, the funds will be there, bit of you wipe and reinitialise with a new seed, all the wallets will be empty. (So you will need to manually move the funds off the old seed)

Hey Jad Fawaz, good to hear, feel free to shoot me a tip at www.reddit.com/user/Crypto-Guide/comments/czy13u/a_post_or_video_of_mine_was_helpful_feel_free_to/ :)
Thanks for the video. a few questions for u and thanks again. 1. after upgrading my ledger live my nano s does not work. it gives me "error 0x6984". what does this code mean? no matter what I do my ledger nano s does not work. 2. can I buy a nano x and start it with nano s key words? thanks
This error code is something you will need to contact ledger support for. In terms of seed compatibility, the Nano S seed will work fine in the Nano X. (Ledger Live will just keep working, so no need to re-add all the accounts in there)
@@CryptoGuide I'm trying to set up a new Nano X from an old Nano S for the very same reason as bb above. I know to enter the same seed phrase series. BUT WHAT ABOUT THE PIN?? Does the pin need to be identical as the one I had on my old Nano S? No one has answered this question. I don't want to go down a rabbit hole after guessing the wrong answer. Nor do I wish to set a new pin only to discover that somehow I should have known to use the same pin as on my old Nano S.
@@CryptoGuide i am having issues with my wallet because it says that it is set up with a different recovery phrase or pass phrase associated to the account.
The error means what it says... It sounds like you either wiped the ledger and reinitialised it with a new seed, or used a different passphrase. I talk about this in more detail in my video on the risks of running multiple ledgers.
I am trying to have a simple recovery process that i can use on any hardware wallet using BIP39 i want a recovery process that looks like this: 1) input the 24 words seeds 2) input an alphanumeric password 1 + 2 --> into a KDF = private key = wallet restored. Which hardware wallet allow for this? In this tutorial there is some confusing ledger proprietary terminology. Why would i want a temporary passphrase or pin? Seems just a confusing and risk prone convenience. attaching a pin to an account also is a confusing concept. Maybe i am just confused but can you clarify? thanks
Every BIP39 wallet worth having supports the kind of key derivation you are referring to. (Ledger, Trezor, Keepkey, Coldcard, Cobo Vault, Bitbox02, etc) BIP39 passphrase support is part of the BIP39 spec in the same way that the seed phrase is. It isn't vendor specific beyond any specific limitations that any single vendor might have. (I talk about this more in my video about "seed, passphrase, pin and password") In the context of a Ledger, you might want to assign a passphrase to a PIN for the sake of convenience and error resistance basically... Temporary can be used if you want a slightly increased level of security and it is also useful for verifying the passphrase attached to a PIN.
thank you again for your video. I set up multi word passphase which I learnt from you in another video. I set this all up on a Trezor model T. I am doing a backup test atm on a new nano x and have been able to verify that the main seedphase backup worked. However, I am not understanding how to access the account connected to the original passphrase I set up. Using the nano x it seem to only prompt a one-word passphase and I wasnt sure about the connecting to the pin part. Is that the original pin I setup on the model T or some new pin? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also happy to book a consultation with you if you offer them?
@@CryptoGuide I worked out how to enter a "space" so that is okay. I am just not yet able to access my passphase account whilst testing this backup. The Model T prompts us to enter the passphase directly in the Trezor Suite but I cant seem to find this option on ledger live therefore I am not clear on how to restore the account connected to the passphase. Does that make sense?
With ledger you assign the passphrase on the device itself, either as temporary, or assigned to a PIN. You then do the "add account" workflow in Ledger Live and it will add the account associated with the passphrase.
The Nano devices are actually much easier to use if you assign passphrase to PIN. The Trezor approach is straight-up dangerous as it is very error prone. Just follow the procedure I suggest in this video to verify that you have correctly added the passphrase in the Ledger. If you confirm everything in the Ledger side then try with the same passphrase on the Trezor with Trezor suite and the accounts will be the same. (If not then you are likely making a typo entering your passphrase in the Trezor)
Thank you for this. Question: if you are forced to open your ledger live, won't an attacker be able to see all your regular account's transactions and won't they display the movement of the bulk of your funds somewhere else (in this case, the passphrase account)?
If you have all of your accounts in Ledger Live then yea, this will be obvious. In terms of there being evidence of funds moving then yea, this is all public on the blockchain, though it isn't any way that someone would know that you have sent it to your own accounts as opposed to elsewhere.
@@CryptoGuide @pachmann4869 I had the same question, and had often wondered how it works with multiple wallets within Ledger. So it seems to me that having a decoy wallet and a passphrase wallet is no protection at all from a $5 wrench attack, if we leave the account visible in Ledger. (of course, protection from $5 wrench attack isn't the only reason to use a decoy & passphrase, but still). Suggestion would be then, to delete the passphrase-protected wallets from Ledger Live when they're not being used regularly. What a pain. Any other workarounds? I guess getting familiar with another piece of software and keeping just our decoy wallet in that one?
Very good video. A question/confirmation: is it possible to use a wallet created with 24 words + the passphrase with Coins unsupported by Ledger Live? For Instance Cardano ADA?
Thanks and yes, the BIP 39 passphrase has nothing to do with Ledger Live. Adding a passphrase will give you an entirely new set of accounts for every crypto, even separate U2F identities.
What if I have two sets of recovery phrases. Both are correct but what If I recover using the one with no assets on it.. will I be able to use the correct phrase?
For my ADA I opened an Adalite account, deposited funds, but changed the phrases on my Nano X since. I think I have been successful in doing so, but now can't seem to access my Adalite account anyway. What do you think I may be missing? Thank you.
@@CryptoGuide by seed you mean password or phrases? I have both and was able reinstall my original phrases onto the device then updated all including firmware, but Adalite still will not recognize it. One other issue it could be if you agree is that I have a Nano S device with a different set of phrases on my Ledger Live account. Could it be that two differently setup devices cannot share one Ledger Live account and that's why Adalite will not recognize the new device?
Ledger Live will not automatically reflect the changes if you change your Ledger Nano to a new seed. (You can check if they correspond by doing the "verified receive" process) You can use as many different devices/seeds with Ledger Live as you like, but it is very easy to get yourself mixed up if you do this...
Hi, your video is very informative.. I can see you have a good knowledge about the cold wallet. I have a ellipal wallet. But by mistake, the screen was smashed. i bought a new one and tried to recover my account it gave me an entirely different address. Now all my life savings are stuck in the wallet i can not access. When i tried the customer services of ellipal wallets, they said you may have a passphase. But i never had any passphase..never. Any idea or any help. Please help 🙏
Basically the problem will be one of three things. 1) You set a passphrase 2) You are using the wrong seed (or have a typo in your seed) 3) You were originally using the Segwit address type for BTC and have now re-initialized it using the legacy account type
@CryptoGuide 1. I never had a passphrase 2. If I was using the wrong seed, it would say invalid seed and wouldn't let me in.. When I tried to recover the account ... 3 I have absolutely no idea what's that. Please provide a solution so I can have my life savings back. Or I will be eating chips only in my retirement.
@CryptoGuide another one, please tell me if this is any place where i can get my ellipal titan screen repaired or replaced i can access my account again.
Your assumption around 2 isn't correct if you are using a 12 word seed, it is easy to have a typo in them and still have a valid checksum. The fact that you don't even understand point 3 makes it very likely that this is what you did...
You can reinitialise the device with a new seed which will create an entirely new set of wallets. (With new private keys) You will want to manually send all existing funds off the device before you do this.
Basically if you reset the device and it passes the genuine check with Ledger Live (download the latest directly from ledger.com) then it should be fine.
Sorry I'm confused here. I'd really appreciate some explanation. You install the recovery check app right after resetting the ledger. I thought resetting the ledger would clear the seed phrase too, so how is the app checking for correctness? Or maybe i don't understand the use of the app
If I’ve wiped my device and then got back in using my recovery phrase as practice, is my recovery phrase still valid when it comes to recovering my wallet a second time? Or is a new one produced? Cheers
Your recovery phrase IS your wallet, so you will use that same phrase every time to set up a hardware device. This is true even if you get a different Ledger or hardware device from another vendor.
Thank you for the help! I tried to repair my nano S after "MCU is not geniune" i followed the steps to repair but on ledger live it instructs "open the manager and click update firmware" but when i go to the device to do that it gives me no option to update, it just goes to settings and shows me my current version (S E 1.3.1 and MCU 1.6) and if i click "reset all" it just brings me back to step 1. any help would be appreciated. thank you
Yep, though there are some difference in how altcoins and derivation paths are handled which you need to be aware of. What coins/chains are you looking to store?
Hi man love your channel and the way you deal people. I wondered if you could help. I have tried to read other comments to get my head around it but have struggled! I have a nano x I’ve only ever put crypto on it. Never taken it off. I have tried to take funds off it today for the first time and I get the classic message ‘something wrong with recovery or pass phrase. So I reset my ledger, reinstalled and connected the apps and recovery phrase, to still get the same error code when I try to transact. I have never used a pass phrase before.. do I need to have one in order to transact? I can’t think of any other reason why I can’t remove my crypto. So sorry to pester you dude but I’m really struggling for help. All the best either way ✌🏻
Thanks. :) Basically the error means what it says, so either the seed+passphrase that you have running on the Nano doesn't match the seed+passphrase that was active on there when you added the account to Ledger Live. Passphrase is an advanced feature that you need to manually enable with Ledger devices, so it's unlikely that you accidentally enabled it. Have you ever had other Ledger devices or reset the device and reinitialized with a new seed? (Sometimes people will reset the device and assume that it will just give them the same seed back, when actually you will get a new seed every time)
I have followed everything you have said in your video. The issues I am having is when I go to do a transaction. It will say that it failed. I am catching on some but would like some help understanding why it failed. Thank you for your help!
@@CryptoGuide I am seeing it in my uphold account after I do the transaction. I check the account to see if it has done the exchange. It will say failed transaction.
I am having a difficult time. I had to reset my device. I have the 24 word Recovery but I continue to receive the same error. I want to move funds from the device in order to reset the device. I even went as far as to order another one in hopes of resetting the device after moving the funds to the new wallet. Any suggestions?
The seed is not tied to the device at all. You can wipe it and create a new wallet with a new 24 words at any time. (You will need to manually move your funds from the old to new) You can also restore the seed in to any other hardware of software wallet.
Updated firmware to ledger live and reset ledger, when I went to restore w pass phase key, one of the pass phrases doesn’t show up, I triple checked when I wrote down the key years ago, the list of words on ledge site doesn’t show the word I wrote down in my pass phase list, any suggestions?
Is the word that you can't get to appear part of the BIP 39 word list? github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0039/english.txt If it isn't on there, you have made an error transcribing your seed and will need up either work out which word it should be, or use something like BTCRecover which will recover it no problem.
I'm trying to figure out if i should reset my Nano X. I'v bought from coinbase plenty of times and sent it to my Nano X and now when i try to send from coinbase to my Nano X it says (Send Failed input correct address)? By the way i can send crypto to coinbase from my Nano X without a problem, receiving it is the problem?
This sounds like an issue with Coinbase that resetting your Ledger Nano won't fix. When you are sending from Coinbase to your Ledger Nano, what is the first letter of the address that you are sending to? (The address generated by yout Ledger)
months ago i could run recovery check, nano s. now it says 3rd party wallet needed. i had to remove because of space. you say i can remove an app and reinstall - makes sense to me but the recovery check now says a 3rd part wallet needed. is that because im out of space or a new requirement
I've recently come across an issue with my Ledger Nano X. I plugged into Ledger Live only to discover that my balance is $0 yet I did not see or transfer any funds. Any recommendations?
So are you saying that you can see transactions in Ledger Live sending the funds away? (You also shouldn't need to have plugged the device in to see this if you had previously used Ledger Live on that device)

Hi I lost my ledger and have orders a new one and recovers it all today does that mean that the one that was lost is void or could someone still get onto it if they where to find it?
I don’t know whether to order a complete new one again set up as a new and transfer everything over if the ledger that I’ve lost/been stolen is still active I’m worried
@@CryptoGuide no I haven’t shared it but is their not a way that someone could hack into it if they knew what they were doing or I’m just being over the top paranoid
There is no way to access it unless they have the PIN. The Ledger devices use special hardware (secure element) which is specifically designed to protect against physical attacks.
if you reset your ledger the third or the fourth time. is it mandatory to choose/pick the same pin during the 1st time you set your pin to the passphrase?
@@CryptoGuide Oh THANK GOD! I will be setting up my new Nano X using a 24-word seed from an old Nano S. So I can enter those words and then use whatever PIN I choose. The PIN doesn't have to be the one I had on my Nano S but it can be the same? Because you said "...set the PIN to be whatever you like at any time."
Hey mate self taught and I do find all of this a little overwhelming. I set everything up I thought well but every time I turn my ledger Nano X on shouldn't it ask me for my seed phrases because it doesn't. What could I have done wrong? I appreciate any advice.
Hi, after successfully restoring my recovery phrase on nano X, why do I have to reinstall all APPs again and when I tried to reconnect to my Solflare Account to send crypto, it's not connected anymore. Could you please advise. Thank you. Has it wiped out all my previous key that was connect to the Solana Account. How could have access to my Solflare CRypto Account.
You wiped the while device so this is why you need to reinstall all the apps you want. Once you reconnect it to your wallet software the funds that were previously there will reappear.
@@CryptoGuide hi, I have reinstall the Solana Apss but it's not connected to my Solflare wallet Account. I can't send my crypto because the Soflare wallet Account says failed to connect.
It's just the same as the normal pin, basically if you get three incorrect guesses then it will wipe the Ledger. That said, if you know your non-passphrase PIN, you can just use that to unlock it and it will reset the pin-fail counter back so that you get another three tries.
I am having trouble sending BTC from my nano x. The support I talked to via Twitter said I need to synchronize my wallet to the interface. Doing this manually requires me to enter my seed phrase. Ledger support isn’t verified on Twitter. I have no idea if this is a trust worthy process. I have the link but will not post it unless you give me permission
This is a 100% scam and once you give your seed away, they will steal everything... You never need to enter your seed anywhere other than on your physical Ledger Nano device. (No website, software, app or anything)
@@CryptoGuide So strange.. I can send and receive coins for my Daedalus but recently my ledger live won't allowed me to send crypto. I know it's not the nano x device. I have plenty of funds (117 coins) on ledger live. What should I do ?
So my phrase is compromised and my harmony one tokens are ok until I unstable them at which point it’s a race to get the funds when the stake is undelegated. Is there anything I can do?
I'm sorry for your loss. It really depends, the scammers may have automated it so that the funds will be swept as soon as it un-stakes, but they may also not even be aware of which coins you have on their. Basically it will be a race once the funds are available.
So if I lost my pin but have my phrase words all I have to do is reset my ledger and use my original phrase words to get my assets back? Or am I missing something I just dont wanna reset my ledger and loose all my xrp!
If you have your seed phrase then you can simply reset the device and reinitialize it. If you are really worried then it could be worth getting a second Ledger Nano S to restore the seed to before you wipe the first one.
Bit frustrated with this Ledger Live App and my nano s. I tried to connect Nano S but will not work. I've tried different Usb cables/ports and pc's etc as suggested by ledger help. The firmware is 1.3.1 mcu is 1.1. I try repair MCU in Live app manager. As asked I hold left button when switching on it get stuck on Bootloader. Will not show any signs of connecting. Obiously the Firmware and MCU are outdated,. Should I reset all on device? will I loose crypto ? Any suggestions would be great as Ledger support is not very supportive.
If you didn't write the seed down at the start, you can't display it again. Your best bet it to move the funds off, reinitialize with a new seed, then move them back.
If you lose your BIP39 passphrase then you can change it, but you will no longer be able to access the funds that were associated with the previous passphrase. (Changing passphrase gives you an entirely new and separate wallet)
@@CryptoGuide But you can recover it right if you do a wallet restore? I entered the 24 word seed on my second ledger that was linked with the 25th passphrase wallet. After restoring it I went into the passphrase setting and it only shows that I can setup a new passphrase and does not show recover option?
I have the first generation Ledger nano s (2017). I cannot open with with Chrome plug ins. Tried with ledger live, ledger nano does not load on my screen. I just want to recover both my Nano s wallets with my seed phrase.
The chrome apps are discontinued. Have you tried to see if Electrum will recognize the Ledger? If the firmware is too old then you will need to contact Ledger support and get a replacement. Either way if you have your seed phrase backup you will be fine. (Just don't go entering it in to any software, it is only ever entered in the physical Ledger Nano itself)
Hi, I know your video was uploaded 3years ago, but I've just found that yesterday when dealing with my problem. So I hope you can help me. I have a ledger that stores a wallet with a passphrase. I tried to recover that wallet in ANOTHER wallet from ANOTHER wallet provider (like metamask for example). But when I finish typing in my 24 seed words, The metamask does not show my old account. I know if I recover my wallet to another ledger wallet, I just have to put in the 25th (passphrase), and it will show my old account again. But in this case, metamask has nothing like a passphrase, and I can't access my account without typing in my 25th seed word somewhere. So what if someday my ledger broke down and I can't recover my account in any other wallet from other wallet provider without a "passphrase feature"? Hope you can give me a solution or an explanation for this. Thank you so much!
The "25th word" is just a BIP39 passphrase, so if you restore the seed in sometime that also supports it, like MyEtherwallet, you can enter the seed+passphrase and your funds will be there
Unfortunately not, if you don't have a working backup, didn't enable the cloud backup feature on coinbase and don't have a working copy of the wallet, then you have an unrecoverable loss.
@@CryptoGuide thanks. I assume using the same pin for another passphrase is not possible? Or does setting a new passphrase with a pin attached overwrite the 'old' pin passphrase attached account?Btw great channel, I honestly dont know how your channel hasnt popped up before.
Thanks :) You can't have the same pin as your "non-passphrase" pin, but can use any other pin, including one that you had previously assigned to a different passphrase.
I am still not convinced of the security of a hardware ledger..suppose I have a 24 word and I just use those words from the BIP dictionairy... This means, if someone has the same 24 words in sequence...I am taking over their wallet??? That means also someone else who has the seed phrase..can just take over that wallet...so how is that safe? And what if the hardware wallet assigns the same 24 words..which would be 2 ledgers with the same private keys? ...which would be a disaster...would they share the same account :D..
Just do the math... There are 2048^24 possible seeds... Even a 12 word seed is safe... I mean it's basically the same as asking whether someone can guess a single Bitcoin private key.
So Ive restored and accessed my ledger nano x but where are all of the currencies that I had originally stored on my device before I had to re access it?
Sounds like you have an error in your seed phrase. Firstly, have you checked that all the words are part of the BIP39 word list ( github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0039/english.txt )
If my S shit it’s pants I only put coins in passphrase account and I have a new X so I just recover from seed and then set up passphrase and use same passphrase word created and just use the same pin I used on the S for the phrase account csn I get that account back? All my coins are in passphrase accounts
let me get this straight, i can create a wallet with 24 words(seeds), i can add a pin to protect it. correct? if I put a Passphrase (25th word) I will have to add it once, and then to access it on my device I would use a different pin. is this right? and in case I want to do this countless times, I put a different Passphrase and a pin to access it. in case I reset my ledger or lose and want to restore on another device this pin will be useless, because what the new device will ask for will be my 24 words (seeds) and the Passphrase (25th word), correct? thank you in advance for always clarifying our doubts, your videos are the best :D
Hi, I have copied the 24 seed plus passphrase from ledger to coldcard. I see that there is different xpub in coldcard than in Ledger live. How is this possible?
You have just selected a different account type on the ColdCard than what you were using on your Ledger. Just try all three of the options you are given when you export the wallet skeleton from the ColdCard.
The way to verify the genuineness would be to initialise it with a new seed, connect it to Ledger live and see if it passes. You would then wipe it and reinitialise with your existing seed.
@@CryptoGuide thanks i was told you can actually hold down the right button when you connect your ledger device to a usb port and also update firmware this way
That will put your Ledger Nano in to recovery mode. Basically Ledger Live won't talk to your Ledger Nano if it isn't genuine at all... So if it lets you do the update that way then it's fine.
I just found your channel but cannot find exactly what I am needing help with (sorry if I have missed it). I have a Ledger Nano S which will not connect to Ledger Live. After checking the Ledger website I reset my Nano S and recovered my seed phrase, but still no luck connecting to Ledger Live. I can see that others have had the same issue. So I ordered a Trezor and have restored my seed phrase to that. But no funds are showing in my wallet. I'm hoping you can help!
Have watched several of your Ledger videos. You really know your material well. Quick question: if I have a pin and (upper/lowercase) passphrase on my Trezor model T to access MyEtherWallet, can I duplicate that on my Ledger Nano X and access the same ERC20 assets? If so, when installing the Nano X should I use the attach to PIN passphrase or the Temporary passphrase, or does it matter?
You lost me on this one, why is a pass phrase needed when you use a pin already, would it you need this pass phrase to recover the 24 word seed for a new wallet?
There are a few reasons why someone might add a BIP39 passphrase, maybe to secure backups, maybe to have a second hidden wallet, etc. It's not required and is more error-prone than just a seed. I talk about how passphrase works in this video here th-cam.com/video/53khH9vDw2I/w-d-xo.html
You can add a BIP39 passphrase at any time, but if you try to run the recovery check while the passphrase is active, it will always say that your seed doesn't match.
@@CryptoGuide I guess I will need to wipe and reset the nano s. I read that it should not cause my coins to be erased but should restore them. Should I do this while connected to Ledger Live, I wonder.

Glad it helped :)
Warning: Do NOT wipe/reset device before you verify/use "Recover Check" app. I'd hate to see someone follow along w video & wipe before they verify. BTW, appreciate your channel. New sub.
For sure... Too many people find out their backup doesn't work after wiping their device...
@@CryptoGuide I see. Thanks!
No worries :)

Out can either wipe them or just do the recovery check to work out which is which. If you haven't sent any funds it doesn't matter either way.
if i setup the device as a new device and set a new passphrase how do i still have access to the cryptos? Should i transfer everything before resetting?
So are you saying that you are already using the device and want to reinitialise it with a new seed? In this case then you should to move everything off it beforehand.
@@CryptoGuide yes exactly.
Riteo, if you only have one device then you can just follow my video on moving to a new seed with a single device.
Great video. Just a couple of questions:
(Like above, the ledger will just represent whatever accounts are active at the time)
The main catch with 1 and 2 above is that for wallets like Metamask, Ledger Live, etc, where you "pair" the device, basically the pairing will represent which ever account was active at the time of pairing. (So if you add a passphrase, you will need to add the new accounts for that, I explain this in my video on juggling multiple ledger devices)

Hello, is the recovery Check app safe? Because you type in your seed phrase somewhere (your ledger). Can you use it too double check sometimes without any doubt of someone steal you phrase?
The on-device recovery check process and is designed for exactly this.

@@CryptoGuide correct
@@CryptoGuide i noticed that on ledger live my xrp has a different address now do u think I should send something to that address and it would activate im going to try it

Hello,.If I buy one from a retail, but they assure that comes from the ledger, can I restore the seeds before I put any crypto in ? Thank you
Ledger Nano devices check their genuineness each time you connect them to Ledger Live. (Devices like Trezor don't do this)
The device should not come with any seed phrase or pin written at all, as this is a common scam.
@@CryptoGuide And again thank you very much

Yes that's right
Both the Nano S and Nano X are great devices and are basically the same from a security and feature standpoint. (As you can see here: cryptoguide.tips/hardware-wallet-comparisons/)
The key differences are that the Nano X works far better if you are using your wallet primarily with your mobile.

@@CryptoGuide Thank you for your answer! Regards.

Do I have to go to the "attach to a pin process" again and enter the same pin and 25th word as when setting it up the first time ? Sorry for the stupid question. Thank you very much.
Thanks. :)
If you reset and recover, you will need up set up the passphrase, but it doesn't need to be assigned to the same PIN as before. As long as the seed and passphrase are correct, setting the PIN to something else doesn't matter. (I cover this in a video that looks at seed phrase, passphrase, pin and password)
@@CryptoGuide i tried the passphrase function but want to deactivate it. How?

@@CryptoGuide what if the passphrase is something like "iRgkU&817Hl$"
If it's just random characters then you are basically screwed. If the characters have some structure, are a substitute for letters, etc, then it's doable.
If I have 24 words. Should I put them in vertically or horizontally?

Nothing wrong with using an 18 word phrase and it's normal for there to be some duplicate words sometimes.

If i wipe the device clean, i use the 24 words to restore the main accounts, and then once back on the ledger i can go to select passphrase, enter the exact same one and regain access to the extra account.
have i got this correct? thanks!
That's correct :)
Do you get a new seeds phrases after resetting it or the same old ones?
You get a totally new seed every time you wipe it and there is no way to have the seed displayed a second time after you initially set it up. (This is why it's critically important that you keep your seed backup safe and secure)
Thanks for your video, it's very helpful. Hope you can help with my question below :
Yes to all three. If you think your seed is compromised then you need to move the funds of the seed immediately.
I would like to create new seed words on my own is this possible? I don't trust who I bought it from.
That's right, your device can only have one seed at any given time.
If a ledger device says ledger has malfunctioned, is this a suitable solution? Or is it better to get a new ledger and recover from there?
If the hardware itself is saying that then your best bet is to contact support. Even if the device has failed, you will be able to recover with the seed.
what if you have the pin can get in ok but lost your seed phrase?
Then you should move your funds off the wallet and then reinitialize it with a new seed, then move all the funds back on.
The only thing that matters is the 24-word seed?
.
Thanks for the video! I have a question to ask. As long as my 24 words and pin for my ledger stays safe. Is there ANY way I can screw things up, and loose my crypto?
The main ways you can lose crypto, other than giving your seed away are:
1) Losing your seed backup
2) Sending funds to an address on the wrong chain (eg: sending Litcoin to a Bitcoin Segwit address)
@@CryptoGuide and seed backup = the 24 words? Thanks
Yes that's right :)
can I change my phrase?
Do you mean your seed phrase (mnemonic) or BIP39 passphrase?
hi there I did get the message the phrase didn't match however I was already logged in with the pin. does that confirm its correct?? If I put a wrong pin in 3 times then the phrase is wrong can I go back to the pin?? the phrase is on the paperwork from the start up I just wanted to double check before I add more funds.. there's only a small amount of crypto on it.
If you are loggin in with a PIN associated with a passphrase then you will get the message that it doesn't match. (If you haven't manually enabled BIP39 passphrase then it should always match if you have the right seed)
If you get the pin wrong three times you will wipe the device.
@@CryptoGuide do I need to enable BIP39?
If you have assigned a BIP39 passphrase to a PIN them you need to unlock the device on the non-passphrase PIN to run recovery check.
@@CryptoGuide ok thanks again for all your replies.
Very helpful
Glad it helped
Stay safe :)
Dear crypto guide good job 👏 , today I have received a new Ledger Nano X now I can reset it without 24 words
What do you mean? Do you want to set up a new device or re-use a seed from a previous Ledger?
If I forget the pin what happens to the live ledger app does it just go blank
Ledger Live on your PC will stay the same, but your Ledger Nano device will get wiped after three incorrect PIN entries.

So if I got my ledger , would it be a good thing to reset the seed phrase on it ? So if it was tampered with before I would be safe ?
It will generate a fresh seed when you first set it up.
Im having trouble with the last part at the end where something went wrong can you make a video for it?
You need to be way more specific... What exactly are you having issues with?
@@CryptoGuide i am having issues with my wallet because it says that it is set up with a different recovery phrase or pass phrase associated to the account.
@@CryptoGuide i dont know what to do
The error means what it says... It sounds like you either wiped the ledger and reinitialised it with a new seed, or used a different passphrase.
I talk about this in more detail in my video on the risks of running multiple ledgers.
@@CryptoGuide oh okay I’ll check it out
I am trying to have a simple recovery process that i can use on any hardware wallet using BIP39
i want a recovery process that looks like this:
1) input the 24 words seeds
2) input an alphanumeric password
1 + 2 --> into a KDF = private key = wallet restored.
(I talk about this more in my video about "seed, passphrase, pin and password")
In the context of a Ledger, you might want to assign a passphrase to a PIN for the sake of convenience and error resistance basically...
I don't quite understand the question, are you asking how you enter a "space" character in the Ledger menus?
@@CryptoGuide I worked out how to enter a "space" so that is okay. I am just not yet able to access my passphase account whilst testing this backup. The Model T prompts us to enter the passphase directly in the Trezor Suite but I cant seem to find this option on ledger live therefore I am not clear on how to restore the account connected to the passphase. Does that make sense?
With ledger you assign the passphrase on the device itself, either as temporary, or assigned to a PIN. You then do the "add account" workflow in Ledger Live and it will add the account associated with the passphrase.
@@CryptoGuide thank you. Just tired that and not seeing the account. Nano X is a pain to use for this purpose I have to say. Oh well
The Nano devices are actually much easier to use if you assign passphrase to PIN.
If someone buys a second hand ledger is there a way to set up a new device with different seed phrase than the original?
Just get the PIN wrong three times and it will wipe it, just like I demo here
@@CryptoGuide yes it wipes and you have to put in your seed phrase. To gain access again. Is there a way to generate a new seed phrase?
You just select that you want a new seed, rather than to restore an existing one.
That's basically it
@@CryptoGuide Ok cheers
No worries
Very good video. A question/confirmation: is it possible to use a wallet created with 24 words + the passphrase with Coins unsupported by Ledger Live? For Instance Cardano ADA?
Thanks and yes, the BIP 39 passphrase has nothing to do with Ledger Live. Adding a passphrase will give you an entirely new set of accounts for every crypto, even separate U2F identities.
What if I have two sets of recovery phrases. Both are correct but what If I recover using the one with no assets on it.. will I be able to use the correct phrase?
Yea basically just restore the seed, open Ledger Live and then try the verified receive workflow.
@CryptoGuide thanks..the phrase I thought it would be was giving an error. Tried the other and all good. Thanks for replying

For my ADA I opened an Adalite account, deposited funds, but changed the phrases on my Nano X since. I think I have been successful in doing so, but now can't seem to access my Adalite account anyway. What do you think I may be missing?
Thank you.
If you reinitialise you Ledger to a new seed you can no longer access funds associated with the old one. Do you still have a copy of the old seed?
@@CryptoGuide by seed you mean password or phrases? I have both and was able reinstall my original phrases onto the device then updated all including firmware, but Adalite still will not recognize it. One other issue it could be if you agree is that I have a Nano S device with a different set of phrases on my Ledger Live account. Could it be that two differently setup devices cannot share one Ledger Live account and that's why Adalite will not recognize the new device?
Ledger Live will not automatically reflect the changes if you change your Ledger Nano to a new seed. (You can check if they correspond by doing the "verified receive" process)
You can use as many different devices/seeds with Ledger Live as you like, but it is very easy to get yourself mixed up if you do this...
1) You set a passphrase
2) You are using the wrong seed (or have a typo in your seed)
3) You were originally using the Segwit address type for BTC and have now re-initialized it using the legacy account type
@CryptoGuide
1. I never had a passphrase
@CryptoGuide boss.. you have such good knowledge. Are you based in Australia ..I desperately need help.

If you have a working backup of your seed (and passphrase if using passphrase) then resetting the device won't result in loss of funds.

You will want to manually send all existing funds off the device before you do this.

Sorry I'm confused here. I'd really appreciate some explanation. You install the recovery check app right after resetting the ledger. I thought resetting the ledger would clear the seed phrase too, so how is the app checking for correctness?

Basically the error means what it says, so either the seed+passphrase that you have running on the Nano doesn't match the seed+passphrase that was active on there when you added the account to Ledger Live.

Resetting the device will probably not help, but before you reset anything, do you have your seed phrase handy?
@@CryptoGuide yes i have that written on the paper card
@@brenguiden5521 Did you manage to resolve the problem,i have the same issue now!Let me now pls....
.
So what if I didn’t write down the pass phrase? Any way to be able to find it somewhere so that I can write it down?
If you didn't write the seed down at the start, you can't display it again. Your best bet it to move the funds off, reinitialize with a new seed, then move them back.
@@CryptoGuide thank you

If you forget current 25th word passphrase can you change it through the control center on nano x?
If you lose your BIP39 passphrase then you can change it, but you will no longer be able to access the funds that were associated with the previous passphrase. (Changing passphrase gives you an entirely new and separate wallet)
@@CryptoGuide But you can recover it right if you do a wallet restore? I entered the 24 word seed on my second ledger that was linked with the 25th passphrase wallet. After restoring it I went into the passphrase setting and it only shows that I can setup a new passphrase and does not show recover option?
.
The "25th word" is just a BIP39 passphrase, so if you restore the seed in sometime that also supports it, like MyEtherwallet, you can enter the seed+passphrase and your funds will be there
Excellent information 💪, I need help I lost the seeds to enter Coinbase wallet is there a way to recover it and enter the wallet?
Unfortunately not, if you don't have a working backup, didn't enable the cloud backup feature on coinbase and don't have a working copy of the wallet, then you have an unrecoverable loss.
@@CryptoGuide wow thank you

Hi, can I reset the pin attached passphrase in ledger if I want to use another passphrase account? Thanks
Yes, you can, this will simply replace the previous passphrase that you had assigned to a PIN.
@@CryptoGuide thanks. I assume using the same pin for another passphrase is not possible? Or does setting a new passphrase with a pin attached overwrite the 'old' pin passphrase attached account?Btw great channel, I honestly dont know how your channel hasnt popped up before.
Thanks :)
You can't have the same pin as your "non-passphrase" pin, but can use any other pin, including one that you had previously assigned to a different passphrase.
@@CryptoGuide thanks!!

Have you run though and re-added all the accounts for each crypto in Ledger live?
@@CryptoGuide no I havent. hopefully thats my issue thank you for the reply!

Need help with seed phrase. Ledger will not load saved seed phrase does not work after a few years Nano Ledger
Yea it's same if all Ledger models.
let me get this straight, i can create a wallet with 24 words(seeds), i can add a pin to protect it. correct?
if I put a Passphrase (25th word) I will have to add it once, and then to access it on my device I would use a different pin. is this right? and in case I want to do this countless times, I put a different Passphrase and a pin to access it. in case I reset my ledger or lose and want to restore on another device this pin will be useless, because what the new device will ask for will be my 24 words (seeds) and the Passphrase (25th word), correct? thank you in advance for always clarifying our doubts, your videos are the best :D
I would suggest you watch my video on Seed phrase, passphrase, PIN and password, it answers all of your questions :)
if i forgot my pin and my phrase. is there any way to unlock it ?
If you don't have either your seed or the device PIN then you have caused an unrecoverable loss.
@@CryptoGuide Thanks, with account type you mean: legacy, segwit or native?
Yep
How do you verify its a genuine device before restoring/cloning a device from your recovery phrase in a way without opening the decive?
Which cryptos are you looking for specifically? (Trezor suite won't automatically find everything)
@@CryptoGuide Just Bitcoin. And I have the Trezor One.
.
Yep, you can just attach the passphrase to a secondary pin.
Why YT don’t show your videos while searching for that kind of videos? Thanks for your excellent explanation 🙃
Glad it helped :)
Does the balance on my ledger have to be zero to do this test?
No, the recovery check app can be run any time without resetting the device or risking your funds.
@@CryptoGuide thank you so much for your quick response and great content!
@@CryptoGuide 1 more question, can I add the 25th seed word passphrase as well when I do the test? I did not add on setup of device.
You can add a BIP39 passphrase at any time, but if you try to run the recovery check while the passphrase is active, it will always say that your seed doesn't match.
My XRP disappeared from nano s. I had updated. It shows an XRP and Ethereum app, but no XRP shows. What can I do?
So do you see any transactions? Is the eth balance missing too? Did you need to wipe and reinitialise it?
So what happens if you do the "add accounts" process in Ledger Live?
@@CryptoGuide I guess I will need to wipe and reset the nano s. I read that it should not cause my coins to be erased but should restore them. Should I do this while connected to Ledger Live, I wonder.
@@CryptoGuide Yes, thanks. I realized I had to synch the XRP app in my nano s to the Ledgerlive. My coins have reappeared. Thank God. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to kindly steer in the right direction. I value your videos very much!
Hey MJ, good to hear, feel free to shoot me a tip at www.reddit.com/user/Crypto-Guide/comments/czy13u/a_post_or_video_of_mine_was_helpful_feel_free_to/ :)
Can I change all of my 12 seed words if someone scammed me and got my original set?
You need to move the funds of the device and reinitialize it with a new seed.
If I am the person who generates my seedphrase. Can I assume my device has never been used previously?
If you are generating a new seed phrase then it doesn't matter whether the device was previously used.
@@CryptoGuide thanks for the reply! I’ve heard a lot of horror stories about not buying from certified seller (Amazon in my case). I generated my seed phrase and checked the integrity of the hardware of my nano x.
Then you should be fine :)
