Almost all "Residencies" obligate the residency permit holder (foreigner in that country) to live there on the permanent basis, otherwise it will get canceled. The Residencies are cumbersome unlike citizenships (passports)... Citizenship by marriage is not automatic and requires foreign spouse to live in another spouse's land & pass language exam, unless Italy, Hungary or Portugal. For instance: with Spain, France, Germany, Britain, Sweden, Romania, Russia it does NOT work. Marriage only simplifies and expedite the citizenship process, but doesn't exclude the requirements. I noticed, this "eagerness" to obtain another (especially better than your birth one) citizenship belongs to people from unfortunate counties. Average American/Canadian/Australian would barely think about the ancestry/lineage... Nevertheless, after Charles Mountbatten acquired Republic of Ireland citizenship - it was clear that it's "a trend" in upscale society, despite he is a sovereign of another kingdom... After all, a citizenship (passport) is a tool - useful or useless... Sometimes it can even be a burden for its holder... Must be very cautious... - Not a toy to collect!
