    I have an ST150 and just finished off spraying the front grills. My technique was: Clean parts in a bucket with fairy liquid and a detailing brush. Dry off. Sand with 400 grit. Wipe down thoroughly with Autoglym Tar Remover. 3 coats of Plastic primer. Wet sand with 1200 grit until nice and smooth. Then 4 coats of Satin Black (the extra coat because i'm not clear coating). They came out perfect.

    Hi everyone, I'm Craig who produces these Slam panel infils. They are also available for Facelift models too. If you go on my ebay and click on other items you will see them. Hope you all like my product, they really do smarten up any engine bay, wether its Standard or Show worthy. Any questions, dont hesitate to ask. Massive thank you for the Video install George. 👍👍

    You can use scotch bright to scuff up the plastics, the paint will still stick and it won't leave you with sanding marks in your paint.
    Engine bay looks well with the mods you've done, thumbs up from me m8 =)

    Nice work, the metal inserts do look a treat! I must admit I'm not a fan of the bonnet lifters, but each to their own, if you're happy then that's all that matters! The RS alloys look good on the ST, nothing wrong with the ST alloys however I think the RS ones just look better. A real pig to clean however...
    I've been carrying on with work on my RS, still need to repaint the calipers, hopefully will get round to that over the next week or so.

    Love the videos! Also, if you use a fine grade sandpaper, you can avoid the scratches through the paint (higher the grade, the finer the sanding) when I sand stuff down, I use 1200 grade, to scuff it up, but wont show through the primer or the paint

    I think that tidies it up much better mate. Engine bay is getting there now ! 👌🏼

    Maybe could have tried wrapping those pieces, maybe might have been neater and less time consuming.
    10/10 for effort though👍🏻

    Love the bonnet risers, they make the car look mean. These engines need all the cooling they can get when heavily modified especially without an oil cooler so it's there for a reason/you have an excuse too lol

  • @royevans4581
    @royevans4581 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Me personally, I'd go with bumper black or some silicon spray on your plastics to freshen them up in the engine bay. I think this spray goes by other names like back to black, revitalise etc etc.It just needs a re-apply now and again when it goes dull, but it's just a quick spray over and buff it up with a cloth.

    I fitted the same panels 6 days ago, painted in satin black as it matches the slam panel. Also painted the underside as it is mild steel and will rust.
    I've seen polished stainless covers for those plastic covers you painted, personally I steer clear of painting plastic if at all possible.
    👍🏻

      Hi, I'm Craig who makes the panels, the panels are made from Galvanised steel and not mild steel so they wont rust. Galvanised steel would only go dull of exposed to a lot of water. They will be fine left as they are but me been me, I sprayed mine back and front. 👍👍👍👍

    As you say mate, you just learning as you go. If you want some really good portable spotlights that give out football stadium standard lighting lol, try a set of Solar Storm bike lights. Very bright and will pick out your paint finish really well, so you can see any imperfections as you go. £13 a set. Bargain. Get 2. They make awesome work lights too.

    when sanding down the plastics you only need to use some finer sand paper like 600 or 800 grit. your only slightly roughing it up no need to use some really rough sand paper as you will get them deep scratches. Best to have lots of primer to put a really thick coat on that you can then sand down with 800 or 1000 grit paper to make smooth and will give a smoother finish. If you want a perfect glass finish once you have put a good few coats of laquer on you want to very lightly wet sand the laquer starting from 1000 grit being careful going all the way up in stages to 5000 grit and then polish it up with tcut or 3 stage polish for the glass finish.

    The plastic parts it’s the best to only sand it wet. If you sand it wet there won’t be any scratches.

  • @Hauuy-el1vv
    @Hauuy-el1vv 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think that the scuffing you did prior to the painting would have been better If you used a higher grit sandpaper making the grooves less deep since it is only a soft material that you sanded on. Things can only improve as time goes on 👍🏻

    @S100FAN 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You should have used plasic primer instead of scuffing them up with sandpaper to avoide having the sanding marks in the plastics and to fix them you will need high build primer before repainting.

    Wiper nuts on mine are 15m/m also you need a bonnet insulator, stops engine noise from entering interior of car,,and looks neater ?? Just a thought have you anyone there that does hydro dipping, that would be the way to go
