Thank you, Mary, for catering every taste. I personally prefer whisper videos, but I know that there appear to be more people into soft spoken and so most ASMRtists do soft spoken. I love your whisper voice and am glad you don’t.
You're correct, these look like they're from the 1910s or so. There's different ways to tell, like how much postage is, if it says "post card" vs private mailing card, if there's a split on the back of the card for address AND message, and the types of ink! I collect vintage postcards from Philly and a couple areas around there. This is so cool!
Okay, when I saw the Philadelphia postcard, my heart fluttered! I work on 8th and Chestnut. It looks a little different now but a lot of the older buildings are still standing. Philly is full of history.
I love your videos of secondhand and vintage things the most, it soothes my weary soul to see old things being brought back to life through the attention they are given. Such a lovely video, thank you.
This was a great video! I really enjoyed it. The thunderstorm made it even better. Can't wait for part 2. Thank you Mary 💜
Travel back in time without leaving your couch! Vintage postcards whisk you away to another era, no DeLorean required.
i hope all these people are doing well/ lived happy lives. it’s a small chance really but o think these strangers deserve to be remembered and loved
I adore these lovely papery sounds from the postcards.
My fave asmr is paper/ card sounds and this kind of quiet whispered easy paced chat with very little tapping.
Perfect!
Love your page flipping content too especially when it is slow paced whispered chat and page turning. Thanks.
I loved that video!! I don't usually comment, but I thought I could help with the handwritting reading!
24:12 I think the postcard says "Dear Phebe, [I] let you know [I] think of you. [??] nice and warm out here like summer out there. Love from Julia"
And 26:47 is "Past favors" 😊
I think it says real nice and warm - could be wrong though! 😊
These postcards are so cool! I'm from Pennsylvania and really enjoyed the ones from here. Schuylkill Co. Is North of me and is pronounced 'skoo-kl'. The other county after the town 'Lykens' on that same card is 'Dauphin'. That's the county I live in. What a sweet way to communicate. Sure has changed a bit since then. 😊😊😊
16:28 I think it's Atlantic City, NJ ?
This is a lovely video, I love old postcards. Thank you for all your hard work, Mary! ❤
These are so cool! I think that Xmas one said "Atlantic City NJ"
It looks like 135 S South Carolina Ave. Atlantic City, NJ. I looked it up, and it’s now a parking lot for Resorts Casino. It’s almost 12:30am here in Jersey. I need to go to sleep, but instead I am playing detective for a postcard from a 100 years ago. 🤣
I loooooved this! I love postcards, and I love whispering, and I love the rain and thunder sounds!
Also, Schuykill is a Dutch name and in the US we pronounce it like “SKOOkul,” though that’s probably not how the Dutch say it 🤷🏼♀️
Love this! The storm in the background set the mood. Thank you!
That PA Christmas card is from Minersville, PA in Schuylkill (pronounced Skoo-kl) County. Interesting fact - it’s close to the town that has America’s oldest brewery.
Hi from Ireland 🇮🇪 Mary
So cool to see what the original Hotel Syracuse looked like. I grew up just south of Syracuse and we had our high school prom there.
I love this video! The history of these postcards is so captivating! Thank you Mary ❤
Looks like the really old post cards were posted to the same person. I love this
Love the old postcards!
loved these :) we were taught in school to write this way (and forced to up to the age of 14 I think), but later I switched to print handwriting (if that is the term) as when one has to take notes in school it is impossible to manage to do it in cursive cause print is many times quicker.
Wow, how cool. I used to live in Battery Park City back in 2013. Beautiful views
I bet when the post cost went up 1 cent extra people raised hell😂
They did! In their defense, a penny was worth a lot more back then, and the cost doubled to buy those stamps overnight!
I am struggling to fall asleep and you have just posted a video! Thank you very much!!
I just had 3 wisdom teeth removed and I feel very overstimulated. This video has made this experience bearable thank you so much ❤️❤️
Haha for that Christmas postcard, the name of the town is “Minersville Schuylkill County”, and that second word is pronounced “Skoo-kill”- certainly not obvious by looking at it (I’m a native Pennsylvanian!) Great video as usual 😊
Raise your hand if you're one of Mary's OG's.... 👋👋👋 first 500 subs club!
Yayyy I love vintage things plus your soothing voice just makes it better🎀
I love old postcards! 💕
Mary, you are my favorite asmr artist ever!!! Everything you create is Gold honey!!! Love this ❤ thank you so much for helping me through my sleepless nights and with my anxiety and depression you are sunshine 🌞 ❤
I absolutely loved those postcards and having a glimpse of the past,so much so I'm.going to my.local antique shop tomorrow to see if I can get some too. I am in the uk I hope I can find some so interesting.
Can't wait to hear more from you too!
That's some storm you had too, we hardly ever get thunder that loud in the uk well certainly for not that long it's so relaxing to hear that in the background ❤
Fascinating to imagine the lives of these people 100 years ago. I also thought of my g’parents’ ages when these cards were written. Interesting and fun video.
Fun fact, the "barre" in Wilkes-Barre PA is actually pronounced like "berry"! I lived in Philly for a while and went back for a friend's wedding last summer. I had no idea and went around saying wilkes-"bar" (how it looks like it should sound), getting stupid looks from everyone until someone finally let me in on the right name 😅 You never really hear about Wilkes-Barre in the news, so unless you're corrected by a local there's really no way to know 🤔
I've always said Wilkes-Barry lol!
Great video. I'm anxious today because I have to wait until Friday to leave for my vacation so this is perfect! Thank you.
Just what I needed after this long day. Thank you for this!
What a coincidence! I used to live in NEPA which is where a few of those lesser known towns in PA are located. I only know how to pronounce them because I lived there lol. Also, apparently "Reading" PA is pronounced "red-ing"
Ive tried to watch this 4 times and ive fell asleep before 10 mins everytime
Thank you Mary! ❤
I looooove the whisper videos!💜
Oh my goodness I used to live in Hornell NY. Lovely town. Miss it.
And now I live in Erie. LoL this is so cool to me
Also Schuylkill county is Pronunced Skook-ill. And Wilkes-Barre can be pronounced either as Berry, Bar, or Bear depends on who you ask. I say it as Berry.
Hiii❤. Love this and matchbook collections❤. Super cool!!! Thanks
✨ all feeling good ✨
This was awesome, thanks so much Mary. Best wishes from a long time viewer across the pond 🏴🇬🇧❤️
Such a soothing voice. 😊
Christmas card was from Atlantic City. And I think the other word from previous card was 'I received the Cheeze'
California postcard. Dear Phoebe , I just want to let you know blank blank of you, that nice and warm out here like summer out there....love from Delia
I grew up in Rochester NY!!!
I lived near Hornell NY when i was little. Now i live just outside of Philadelphia 😂
That was great!
This was really awesome!! Love traveling back in time through things like this. Let me say, the
Xmas really surprised me. I thought Xmas was more of a “modern” thing!
I have been waiting for this video. Thank you Mary ❤
Wow! Loved these postcards , your whispers and the thunder in the background! Perfect! ❤
P.S did you make pt 2?
Ithaca NY is my current location.
Mrs. Myers was popular!
I have been looking forward to this video!!
Hi from Syracuse NY!
I looked up the old Syracuse stadium in Wikipedia. It says it new one was built in 1980.
Love from California!♥️
My grandparents lived on a farm in Kansas, so I know it's Rural Free Delivery
Such a cool video! ❤
Is it weird that I looked up some of those addresses on Google Maps?
Hiiiii Miss Mary 😊
Hornell, NY.... that's the next town over from me!!
Baum's Castorine Co., Rome, NY. Manufacturing chemists since 1879. I found a google result on it.🤓 Maybe their products were made with castor oil.😣
Yay! I’ve been looking forward to this video! 💙
Love you voice whispering and also your laugh, do a voiceover rub
I went to public school and we learned cursive. I doubt any schools teach it these days.
This reminds me apropos of nothing of the question posed by science how we are going to mark the spots we bury our nuclear waste where everyone can understand that you’re supposed to leave it alone. I’ve also seen some older postcards where I can absolutely not decipher anything even if it’s written in German but it’s 60 or 70 years old but it’s this kind of pretty looking cursive.
:D
