she was wonderful, and worked hard to get where she did, a trooper and a solid great human being. Will always miss her voice and her determination to go forward in the 40's and early 50's. Hat's off to Deanna!!! will always be remembered!

For me she was the best soprano of them all, and Mario Lanza the best tenor.

In the final scene of this musical comedy, at 7 minutes and 39 seconds, Deanna gives a grace to trombonist his father Adolphe Menjou. Deanna blinks, and frowns at everything. All right. This facial expression with a wink from Deanna is sensational, tremendous, gorgeous.

I was a bit shocked to read your post and discover that Deanna had indeed passed away this year. I guess one shouldn't expect much in the media about the death of a child star who has been out of the public eye for over 60 years and apparently did her best to consign that version of herself to the ash heap of history. Strange how her death was announced. I can understand them not revealing her place of burial but why not the exact time and place of death?
    She will be remembered regardless!

She shunned publicity and the press. She did only one interview after retiring from show biz. she probably specified prior to her death that she did not want her passing to be in the news.

Conducting by Leopold Stokowski in the film is contextualized in the article, Frits ZWART, "To the cinema with Willem Mengelberg: A meeting with Stokowski and Tchaikovsky", , ed. by Benjamin Knysak and Zdravko Blažeković (Wien: Hollitzer Verlag, 2021), 433-443.

She was magnificent in beauty, innocent in smile and angelic in voice. I found her much good expressive actress than Judy Garland, with whom everyone here compares her. I discovered her much more alike Gloria Jean (pardon me if misspell the name) in face, facial expressions, beauty, voice quality and too early retirement from Hollywood business. (Is it only me who thinks that she looked quite alike miss Gloria?)

She would have been brilliant in The Wizard of Oz .. I dont know who Gloria Jean is. I will have to look her up

Kiri Te Kanawa's voice teacher used recordings of Deanna Durbin to teach proper technique.

This was supposed to star Judy Garland but it was Durbin that MGM let go. So they rewrote the story that went from a pop orchestra to a classical orchestra and the rest is history.

One of those trombonists is probably my great-great grandfather. All I have is a blurry picture so it's super hard to compare. The Trombonist at 7:45 is too young to be him (he would have been in his early 60s at the time).

He may have well been playing on the soundtrack, the visual are more likely dubbed, Stokey would what a sound studio recording for the music, very much like Von Karajan later. The fact that the orchestra is using unified bowing, and all the camera angles gives it away.
