This was recorded in the Netherlands and aired Nov. 1985. The crowd is Dutch and rap music wasn't popular like it is now. This was before RUN-DMC's "Raising Hell" album (yes, album), which went global proving rap music wasn't a fad. Adam Curry was the VJ for the network in Holland at the time and was "attempting" to rap while Doug E did the beatbox. Adam Curry was later hired as a VJ for MTV. I was in the Air Force stationed in Holland at the time. The only other live performance by a rap group at this time was Grand Master Melle and the Furious Five doing "Step Off" earlier that year.
*lol* Well, back in the day, a tune like this was one most folks didn't know what to do with. Rap and hip-hop were supposedly just fads. Me, I loved this kind of music, which is why my 80's old school MP3 folder is packed full of goodies like this. ^_^
enrique ja-el What part of what I said was bull? Where I grew up, this tune didn't get a lot of radio play, even though I loved it, There was only one radio station that would play stuff like this and after a couple of years, they shifted to an R&B format, meaning they only rarely would play rap and they stopped playing electro-funk music completely. Regardless, when this song came out, I used to hear a lot of people saying, "This isn't music. This kind of stuff will never last. Rap is a fad." They were wrong. ^_^
Sitting in the driveway the other day because I couldn't bear to turn this off. UPS guy comes up the drive looking at me like I've lost my mind. "Kids" don't know.
Forget the crowd, just absorb the sound, feeling, and energy of Doug E. Fresh and The Get Fresh Crew! Talented as fuck....Da shit! boogiedown as ever!!!!!
MY FAVORITE HIP-HOP SONG OF ALL TIMES. AS U CAN THE PPL WEREN'T READY OR EVEN UP ON THIS CLASSIC AT THE TI ME. BUT I'M QUITE SURE THEY WOULD ALL HAVE TOLD THE STORY OF HOW THEY WERE THERE FIRST. DOPE . CLASSIC. HISTORY. HIP-HOP. SLICK RICK . DOUGIE FRESH. GOTTA LOVE IT
I LOVED this song and waited forever with my boom box record button on pause to catch this on the radio. This still sounds FRESH! Too bad about the crowd tho.
Back in the 80s WAY BEFORE East/West Coast beef garbage..funny how East Coast clowned on West Coast Jheri Curls but look at Doug E!!!!! Fuckit! Good music is good music dammit!!! Hip Hop til’ I die!!!!
Watching this throwback, pick up my mood while working. Wait, where is this "party"??? Are those mannequins in the background??! I mean, you CRAY-ZEEE if you ain't moving and dancing to this JAM!
This was a great song. Lots of fun. Of course this brought in Salt N' Pepper as those old rap battles, the "Show Stoppas". The best way to bring in new talent. Those were great.
Noooooo!!!! I was utterly in love with this in my teens! Me and the missus are lookign for the oldies such as Salt n peppa etc and I effing searchedd for the inspector Gadjet song and this is the bugger! - Was mentally effed up but the moment I saw Doug E Fresh, it all came back! LOL
Sorry guys just now watching in 22.. This is a prime example of how we are sleeping gods on this simulation being observed by those mesmerized on our chaotic fun, it took a decade at a time for it to register. all due respect..
Jeez. That crowd had no clue they were in the presence of greatness.

Props to Doug and the crew for being able to still rock with a dry crowd.
that dry ass crowd, how can you NOT get it in hearing this classic.. omg

That inspector gadget riff is so good...
In the '80s, I thought Slick Rick's (3:43), "No, he's not here right now", was an attempt at the "Doctor Claw" voice
First heard this on the Fresno old skool hip hop radio
Most rappers had djs that scratched with 12" vinyl, but this one was doing it with a 7"..Doug EEEEEEEEE Fresh
And a bicycle glove!
I have the album. Where Slick Rick actually sings "Michelle my bell..." Wow, being old pays off? AWESOME!
Really old… that song isn’t on the lp haha
@@roastlonely - I have the 12-inch single. He just sings 1.5 lines of the song.
Remember this well....can I please go back....just for a little while??????PLEEEEEASE!
i miss the old days they need to bring this shit back!
I agree with you
I agree but that ain’t gonna happen
Unfortunately, that will never happen. Echoes from a bygone era.
This song is a bonafide classic coming from Doug E. Fresh & Slick Rick.
The parts with "Oh My God" and "Is it real?" are so tongue and cheek.
to this day, whenever someone says "six minutes" I at least have to finish the line in my head if not out loud
We have our morning huddle at work at 8am, when it gets 754, I say, "six minutes, six minutes, six minutes, Doug E Fresh you're on!"
This song will never get old, just age like fine wine.
HAPPY 54TH BIRTHDAY

"DOUG E. FRESH"
(SEPTEMBER 17, 2020)
Stone cold classic- Rick, beat boxing, plus skits within a song. Ah, they don't make 'em like this anymore...
wow, im so glad I was a young teenager back then to truely enjoy this experience.
Forget the crowd, just absorb the sound, feeling, and energy of Doug E. Fresh and The Get Fresh Crew!
Talented as fuck....Da shit! boogiedown as ever!!!!!
It sucks.. The Best Performance I've Seen... And a Terrible Crowd
They're just performing and don't give a f*** who's listening, watching, or w/e... That's the best way to handle it.
)
I MISS THIS ERA....REAL MUTHA F'N MUSIC....
🗣Fun and Fond memories of high school in the 1980s!😎 🎙”Inspector Gadget and Dr. Claw”…..FRESH!
NOTHING FEELS MORE HIP HOP OR NYC THEN BUMPING THIS ON MY HEADPHONE AS "I JUMP ON THE D TRAIN FROM 205TH" LITERALLY!!! OH..ITS JULY 2019...WHAT???
We used to hear the boom boxes blasting along Fordham road and grand concourse area..
Skating to this in the 80's
Respect to them still putting on a dope performance despite the whack ass crowd
People didn’t get this genre at the time. They were ahead of their time.
ONE OF THE BEST! Puts today's "rappers" to shame. Old skool lives forever!
These 2 created some of the best beat, rhyme, rap created till this day. #facts

This was the first rap song i ever heard in 1985, in Commercial Art class at VoTech. There was a club kid in the class who played all the newest jams.

Nuff Respect to Doug E Fresh & Slick Rick
Dude came speak while beat boxing? AMAZING!
Those were the best times for hip hop ....
This was new back then that's why the crowd's not hyped. Performing this now is a totally different vibe, I miss the 80's.
They listened to all white groups back then that's why they ain't dancing
