James, I love your work. Not only are you an excellent model builder, you’re a fantastic videographer as well. I had a 1:1 Starlet many, many years ago. Fun little car.
Thank you so much for your kind words, I really needed that. TH-cam is a tough place, you can do great work but if the subject matter doesn’t appeal it won’t get views or suggested by the algorithm. But I have vowed not to appease the algorithm but instead to build what I like and hope that my audience enjoys the journey. Thanks again for watching.
I remember those cars. Years ago they were all over the island in the 80’s. Very popular in Puerto Rico.
Hi Eddie, thanks for watching. I bet they would be a blast to drive and very maneuverable.
what a great build of a weird little car!
Thanks for watching Groove, I agree it’s a fun little car for sure.
A friend of mine had a starlet back in the day , I remember going with him to the beatch with that car ! Aaaaa , those were the good old days!
Holly cow ! and now Ifeel old ,, bummer!
I wish I could drive a Starlet Turbo car. It looks so fun!
Nice seeing some of these Japanese cars in kit form. Good build😊
It was a fun build David, it’s not an exciting car like a skyline but still very cool. Thanks for watching.
Very nice looking build. Super clean. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching Michael! I appreciate you man!
Fantastic work James, was a pleasure seeing you build this little Starlet and nice move with lowering it too. Looks much better. Well done and all the best for the New Year my friend ☺️👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks so much Karl, I just couldn’t leave it with the high stance and wheels sticking out of the wheel wells. I’ll use the wheels on something else later. I look forward to seeing more of your work in 2024 my friend.
I’ve just built a couple of Hasegawa’s F1 cars, never one of their road cars. This is a sweet little ride. Beautiful work James!! I absolutely love the interior. And the color contrasts on the chassis look great. Nice work adjusting the stance. Big improvement there. Great result!!
Thanks so much Kyle, I did enjoy my first Hasegawa kit. I’ll call it crisp molding. Although not stock stance I like it lowered.
@@ScaleModelExperiment you’re welcome! And I agree that the lowered look was a good move for this car.
Very nicely done! Lowering the car is much better this way, I only liked the first wheels a bit better 😉 Happy holidays
Thanks for watching and commenting. The work required to make those wheels work was just too much surgery. I’ll use them on another project.
Great looking little car James. You did a great job of hiding the red plastic. Happy New Year. Ron
Thanks so much Ron. It certainly wasn’t like dealing with yellow plastic. That’s the worst!😁
Turned out real nice! I can't wait to build a hasegawa kit. Happy New Year!
Thanks so much for watching and leaving a comment. I think you’ll like the brand.
Another great build and video!
Thanks so much for watching, I really appreciate all of your support.
Awesome build. 😊😊😊 Love your builds. Fun to build somthing else than a muscle car.
Thanks so much Sindre, I just bought this kit in Japan and had to build it. I totally agree with you, too many muscle cars on YT!
Really nice build and great footage!
Thank you so much for watching, I appreciate your support.
Very cool build James ❤
Thanks Shawn, I appreciate you man!
Great build James. Love that interior. I remember those little starlets. They were very popular in the import racing scene years ago. The lowered stance looks so much better. I had similar issues when I lowered the fieros I built. I know it may not be accurate but it looks so much better.
Thanks for watching Onix. I’ll keep that in mind when I test fit the Fiero to plan to lower it.
Have you ever tried BIMS primer? Love those seats. This is a Really Cool little car!!! Nicely Done James!!! Thanks for sharing
I have not tried BIN sealer before. I decanted the Tamiya spray and thinned it 50/50 so it was very thin both grey and white. By the time I had the final color coat I hadn’t lost any detail at all. The clear on the other hand did fill some of the small details.
Neat little pocket rocket JT !
Another great looking build! 🫠 Happy New Year 🎊🎆🎈 🫡🇺🇸
Thanks Kevin, that is a good description of this tiny little hatch. I’m sure it weighs nothing at all.
Pretty cool kit! I like how it came out. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching Alan, I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Gr8 little build🎩
So glad you enjoyed it. I love small Japanese cars. My TH-cam audience doesn’t care much for them. I’m glad to hear you did 👍 thanks for watching!
Turned out really great. Hasegawa has really been knocking it out of the park with their new kits.
I have a stack of Hasegawa kits and now I want to build more of them. The fitment was way up there with big Tamiya. Hardly any cleanup required and good instructions.
Wow that looks amazing Happy New Year
Thanks for watching Travis, I appreciate your support.
I was thinking about getting this kit, but went for Lancer EX 2000 kit instead. Sleek, clean build with a nostalgic vibe ; )
I appreciate you watching and leaving me a comment. Good luck with your Lancer👍
I usually primer red plastic w/ gray primer, then silver, then black, and lastly gray primer again, before the color coat.
I wanted to keep the layers of paint as thin as possible. 2 mist coats of grey, 2 mist coats of white primer then 2 coats of white mixed with white pearl. The color is better than what you see in the video.
Seen you on Robs live! Nice collection! Great build. Gave you a sub 🐌✌️
Thank you, I appreciate that 😁
cool build thanks lee
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment Lee👍
Looks cool 🚗
Thanks GFIP👍
A great video, and a very nice build sir. Can you makes you want to build a Hasegawa kit
So true Eddie, I have a stack of Hasegawa kits that I now am considering building 👍
Odd that the engine hood was separate since it has no engine to reveal. another nice video James! will you be attending the NNL East in Jersey?
Hi Dean, thanks for watching. I think the hood was separate because there are other versions of the car on kit form. I will be at NNL East this year for sure . Hope to see you there.
Awesome build. Where did you get the shelving for your cars? Looks awesome. Thanks
Thanks for watching. The display cases are from Carney Plastics. They aren’t cheap but they display nicely.
Nice model. I owned a Toyota Corolla FX hatchback in the 90's which is the american market version of the Japanese market Starlet. Great lttle car. What's the nname of that clear glue in a tube with blue japanese simbols? I want to buy some. Thanks
I bet that was a fun car to drive especially if it was a turbo. The glue I used is called Cemedine which in the US we can purchase it as rhinestone adhesive. I’ve seen similar on Amazon. It’s water based and holds well, dries clear.
where did you get the cemedine glue? any link on amazon?
I bought it while I was in Japan, best alternative here in the USA is rhinestone adhesive. Thanks for watching 👍
Did you paint all parts BEFORE you start assembling? I'm nee to these kits and I wanted to have something half decent, even if it's not the correct/suggested colours
Hi RC, yes I did paint all of the parts before assembling. If you want to get into the hobby there is a series of kits from Aoshima that come pre-painted and all you have to do is glue them together. Actually pretty nice as finished models when you are done.
@@ScaleModelExperiment I'm in Japan and I think I'll buy those Snap on Kits before I try to assemble my Toyota Starlet. I saw your '50 Ford video and how you sort out the parts. Very helpful too!!!! Thanks for the tips
@RallycrossGT I’m jealous that you’re in Japan, I get to visit yearly and enjoy my time there. Visit a Yodobashi Camera store, they have a good selection of model kits at most locations. Akihabara is the best for model kits in my opinion.
@@ScaleModelExperiment hit me up next time you are here and I can take you to do real car stuff too!!! and yes, the variety of models here is crazy. I normally assemble Dragon Ball figures and some Gundam, but just getting into cars now
Awesome, I definitely will look you up.
