There is another piece below that to prevent this , where he is resting his feet. If this was tightened before the ascend, the machine can't slip down. If you forget, get off the seat to get at the coconuts ...
Look at the video. On top, you still can't reach the coconuts. They are above the lowest fronds. You have to get up off the seat and stand on it. Make sure your harness is secure so you don't fall out of it.
I think a design can be made with a clamp-like contraption on each leg independent from each other using springs and a design that utses the pressure from the weight of the body on one feet pressing down to lock the clamp to the tree and easing up on this pressure when climbing, releases the clamp.
