Frankly speaking, Ariana was clearly struggling to hit that high note on "back". I guess it's because she was trying to approach it in a more aggressive, emotional manner. But it could also be because that note isn't in her tessitura (a term used for what non-enthusiasts would call comfort zone).

that’s what I think too cuz it sounds the same and her other falsettos sounded different that night. plus that C#6 from the VMAs has such a distinct sound and is so recognizable. and her mouth was way too close to the mic
jadedpinnock her falsetto was on fire that night plus the C#6 she did in giaw and bad idea had similar tones that night and plus the vmas one was longer I believe
