For context on Shockwave - In the comics, Shockwave initially did not have a singular eye when he was a senator. For speaking out against the senate, he was actually punished by being subjected to empurata, a cybertronian punishment where his whole face was replaced with a single optic, and his left hand was removed. The senate also removed his emotional circuits, thus turning him into the cold logical scientist he is today.
Shockwave had both hands removed, Megatron offered to replace both but Shockwave wanted to keep remnants of the procedure as a reminder, so switched his clawed hand for a gun hand.
I highly, HIGHLY recommend the Shockwave origin arc from More than Meets the Eye. Just a fantastic story. Honestly all of Shockwave’s IDW stories are fantastic and worth a read

But it was also pretty damned foolish of them to think that if they stripped the planet's most brilliant scientist of his emotions, he'd change his stances to comply with their politics. These are probably the best molds they could have used for the designs, they do fit perfectly and with the added difference it makes them stand out more
I think Shockwave looks good, but I don't thinks that mold works well for IDW Orion PAX, it's far too small, and I have no idea why the didn't use the earthrise blaster instead of Hound's weapon. Dude Should be as big as miner Megatron.

This resulted in a cold, logic-driven Shockwave, who went on to become one of IDW’s primary villains for over a decade of comics.
When all was said and done Shockwave was THE primary villain of the entire IDW1 Transformers Universe, going back to the very beginnings of Cybertron. (It's weird and involves time travel, but yeah.... Shockwave is THE uber-villain of IDW1) Which compounds the tragedy of what happened to him as a Senator even more
It would be awesome to fit the Activision WFC/ Exodus universe Sentinel Zeta Prime as a heavy Blurr retool making him that Cybertronian truck. (For the retool concept, upscale it to a voyager, replace the arm wings and original backpack with one that wraps around the hands and chest, and add wheels. The accessories could be his staff and the omega key).
Actually he used to be a data clerk in the comics but became an officer after the deceptions began uprising. I assume he would’ve known shockwave back then too.
For being retools, I really like these. Orion's chest mirroring optimus and as the vehicle grill turns out perfect and the posing options for the jet wings on Shockwave are great. I've got a decent amount of nostalgia for the original molds but these do the right amount to make them interest on their own
I'm hoping that there will be an IDW Lost Light two pack, or four pack. I honestly love the IDW Rodimus and I think that they could make one out of the SS86 mould.

The Transformers One movie is being directed by the Director who did Inside Out, Up and Toy Story 4, and they have such amazing Rotten Tomatoe Scores, so I hope it is as good as his movie’s he directed, even if Rise of the Beast got a 53%, it’s still a win because Steven Caple Jr. tried, but hope the score is higher for the next live action movie
Speaking of the upcoming TRANSFORMERS ONE movie, I want to see Orion Pax get COMPLETELY "Officer Murphy-ed" ( aka Robocop ) by Megatron and his gang, before he's rebuilt as Optimus. Man, I wish the windscreen on this Orion Pax was a transparent window...

Shockwave's origin is one of the coolest things in the IDW universe, which is saying something considering how excellent it was almost across the board.
You really need to read the IDW Robert's comics, the story behind that change of shockwave will blow your mind. Also I agree that Nova Prime looks like a retool from the Siege Magnus mold, very dissapointed because I've been waited for a figure for him and isn't his own mold
I love that Hound mold and this looks great! I do wish they'd figured out a way to close the top in vehicle mode, but very minor nitpick. Shockwave looks all around sick though! He'll be a good replacement for my poor yellowed SG Starscream. Definitely want this set. :D
For quite a bit now, I've insisted the Siege Hound mode would make a good General Optimus. He's already mostly the right shape and even colors and would only need a new head and maybe some swapped accessories to pull off the design.
So fun story My senator shockwave came with his left leg half on, I waited until a couple nights ago to try and fix him and it led to me having to put the back tab in back into place, it wasn’t until I unscrewed the whole leg that it finally snapped back in, this figure has taken almost 2 hours of my life to try and fix
Having never bought or experienced either of these releases as a retooled two pack they're pretty awesome. While I prefer the Megatron/Ratbat pack this also looks like a really good value for how unique, and quality built these two are presented. That and it's such a displayable eye catching set in those colors.

Ingenious retools, though, like these earlier origin sets, these will be probably nigh impossible to track down either. That Siege seeker mould is sick. It's, like, 13th-15th use of it and it still holds up. Pretty much decent contender to dethrone that legendary Classics deluxe seeker mould.

At first glance, I thought that was Ultra Magnus because of the coloration. But from memory, unless you're looking at the 2001 Robots In Disguise series, he couldn't fly in any way.
I have to say nostalgia means G1 wins out in if i could only have 1 I'd pick G1 Orion Pax but .............but I full on 100% admit and think the IDW Orion Pax is the better design and better. but thank goodness i can just have both and put them on shelves in G1 and IDW verse displays. By the way, im really really hoping they continue the IDW figures...... Especially the DJD because Tarn needs his teammates
Wow, no loose joints on your Orion? The legs came off and apart multiple times on mine and I'm strongly considering gluing him into place since I don't think I'll need to transform him again. One of the feet fell off his alt mode 2 seconds after I took the paper off him. He's got a great face, great paint job, but that leg design is whack and the pegs are not long enough or strong enough for the way the parts don't actually line up together all that well.
Gave up on this set when I noticed what they retooled. Senator Shockwave as Siege Starscream retool might have gotten a pass, Orion Pax in IDW required something close to the gamer edition, and certainly a voyager. Pass for me. I recommend you read Chaos Theory and Megatron Origin before the Shadowplay arc of MTMTE in IDW, and then continue till Dark Cybertron.
I hope you can give some of the comics a look, they were a blast. I want this pack for Senator Shockwave, best use of the Seeker mold. can't decide which of the Senators I like the most, both are great retools and I'd want 'em on my shelf!
This is a pass for me, but I'm glad many IDW fans are getting figures from the comics still, even after the move from IDW to Skybound. As for that Orion, we DID get an Orion in IDW style before, in I want to say the Genrations Thrilling 30 line. It...wasn't a BAD figure but I can see someone wanting to go for this mold as I think it's a lot less fiddly than the older version.

I definitely may pick this set up along with the miner megatron just because I missed my chance on the hero is born set and I feel this is more of a pre enough of Optimus but g1 pax definitely I want to pick up just so I could have the first iteration of the “before the prime” character but at the same time if I find the erial and dion set I want the two best friends look different and not just two kup retools
i think your reviews would benefit from leaving a little longer pause between the last step of each part of the review and the faction symbol eyecatch/transition, it feels like it's cutting you off a bit too harshly
(idw spoilers if you want to read for yourself) Basically idw shockwave was working with Orion Pax to take down the corrupt senate wanting to change the system from the inside, and this rebellious attitude got him a punishment. He went through "Empurata", which replaced his face with one eye and shadowplay got rid of his emotions, leaving only logic and anger.
I might use this Shockwave and Ratbat for my Upcoming Transformers Shattered Glass video cause Shattered Glass figures are so expensive I might get a few who cannot be repainted and repaint a few more
My favorite Orion before this set is the Thrilling 30 version which the axe this one shares an axe head with that one. Everything aside from the head of the axe looks very different in shape.

Excellent recap, just wanted to add that Whirl was subjected to the same punishment in the comics. Hence he too had a single eye and claw arm.
Iirc Proteus had shockwave go through the empurata surgery out of spite.

It's funny that they've listed Optimus as a data clerk despite that specific version of Optimus being a police officer.
My theory is that they don't want to introduce children to the more mold-breaking take on Optimus yet.

Hasbro got it he was a cop in this version of idw not a data clerk. The Shockwave looks decent but that orion is not accurate at all.

OMG, THat NOva will be the 5th retool of that magnus Mold I buy (WFC, Earcthrise, Galaxy Upgrade, and Shattered glass I already own)
Gave up on this set when I noticed what they retooled. Senator Shockwave as Siege Starscream retool might have gotten a pass, Orion Pax in IDW required something close to the gamer edition, and certainly a voyager. Pass for me.
I recommend you read Chaos Theory and Megatron Origin before the Shadowplay arc of MTMTE in IDW, and then continue till Dark Cybertron.

I hope you can give some of the comics a look, they were a blast. I want this pack for Senator Shockwave, best use of the Seeker mold. can't decide which of the Senators I like the most, both are great retools and I'd want 'em on my shelf!
I wanna see more figures for the Senator type characters, i have never read IDW but they could be a potential stand-in for a remade Prime council
This is a pass for me, but I'm glad many IDW fans are getting figures from the comics still, even after the move from IDW to Skybound. As for that Orion, we DID get an Orion in IDW style before, in I want to say the Genrations Thrilling 30 line. It...wasn't a BAD figure but I can see someone wanting to go for this mold as I think it's a lot less fiddly than the older version.

3. HARD PASS on these two. While I like IDW, I didn't like the Shockwave origin story or design. I also prefer the Orion Pax that is a mold-mate of Kup.

I definitely may pick this set up along with the miner megatron just because I missed my chance on the hero is born set and I feel this is more of a pre enough of Optimus but g1 pax definitely I want to pick up just so I could have the first iteration of the “before the prime” character but at the same time if I find the erial and dion set I want the two best friends look different and not just two kup retools
i think your reviews would benefit from leaving a little longer pause between the last step of each part of the review and the faction symbol eyecatch/transition, it feels like it's cutting you off a bit too harshly

Basically idw shockwave was working with Orion Pax to take down the corrupt senate wanting to change the system from the inside, and this rebellious attitude got him a punishment. He went through "Empurata", which replaced his face with one eye and shadowplay got rid of his emotions, leaving only logic and anger.
Again ...Tell that to the Boys ( like you ) that don't know anything about The Transformers Lore , Boy ¬¬ .

I might use this Shockwave and Ratbat for my Upcoming Transformers Shattered Glass video cause Shattered Glass figures are so expensive I might get a few who cannot be repainted and repaint a few more

Honestly I like Senator Shockwave more mainly because in my mind Rattbat will always be a cassette tape in Soundwave's chest

While these guys are cool, i dont think they surpass other new legacy releases for how much i want them, in my opinion

The first time the tetrajet molds rear end looks like part of the alt mode lol
My favorite Orion before this set is the Thrilling 30 version which the axe this one shares an axe head with that one. Everything aside from the head of the axe looks very different in shape.
