Almost every young American Male born between 1965-1980 (thinking about kids watching this show back then) wanted that car. That car was more iconic that any that came after it. Be it a Delorian from Back to the Future to KITT on Knight Rider. The General Lee was on its own level.

    • @captin3149
      @captin3149 ปีที่แล้ว +10

The whole time was good for iconic cars. The three you mentioned, the A-Team van, the Magnum Ferrari and the Miami Vice Ferrari......it was a good time for car people. But the Lee is the first one I remember as being almost it's own character.

My son absolutely loved this show when he was about 7 years old. He would sit in my lap or beside me. Eating popcorn and coke. That was family time for us on Friday night. Memories, you cannot take away. Them Dukes. Loved all those schemes by Boss Hog, and his side kick. Rosco P. Coltrane.

geewdanger no it simply was the battle flag for the Army of Northern Virginia. Designed in Fairfax Va. 1861 due to confused confederate soldiers rallying at the wrong flag At the Battle of first Manassas (or Bull Run depending on which side you support ). The Stars and Stripes (union) and Stars and Bars (Confederate national flag) were somewhat similar. Sadly it was used by the Klan as a rally flag and other racist groups.

@Justin Blackface I personally am okay with diversity and multiculturalism in a private context. So long as that same culture recognizes their nation's culture first before their own.
But you're right on authority and dictatorships. Authority should be performed by consent of the governed. Not by the threat of force. But most of them corporates in D.C. and state capitals across the country are becoming more thirsty for power. They are a government controlled by the elite. Not of the people.

It is not our generation that finds it racist; it is those who believe a militant response to the lack of affirmative action in every situation is appropriate. Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. professed peace and equality, while Malcom X responded with militant action if priority was not given to "his" people. Priority of one over another based mainly on a characteristic which has nothing to do with the task at hand is called affirmative action. Affirmative action leads to quotas. Quotas lead to a sense of entitlement, and that sense of entitlement is killing America, on thing at a time.

People are just brainwashed to think every southern being is a racist. I'm from Alabama. I grew up playing catch, drinking kool-aid, get some sun and let the dog run around the yard snd had hotwheels like most every other kid my generation. I played alot of games towards the end of highschool. My parents never tried to brainwash me to think anything racist. We always lived in apartments and such. I loved basketball. I was jacked up on Space Jam, Tony Hawk and Lion King. Nobody liked me in school anyway.
Went to Michigan in 2015, got alot of work and actually started getting cars like I've always wanted. I've walked passed an '80 Trans Am everyday to and from school. Car hasn't ran in decades (still doesn't) so I got one off Craigslist in 2016 and was my first older car experience. And the rest is history for that scene.
My stepdad's honda blew up and so did the grand cherokee so my older car was the only one that worked. This is my 3rd vehicle by 2016 and I didn't even have a license yet, so my stepdad dad drove it and brought me to work with my car and he went to work.
Some guy at his job was asking him if he could ride in it, but my stepdad said he couldn't because it's not his car, so the guy went around calling my stepdad a racist at his job.

It was the battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia under General Robert E. Lee.The Confederate battle flag was never the official flag of the Confederacy. The civil war really had nothing to do with slavery anyway. Most of the black slaves in America, including the south were owned by blacks, ethnic Jews, Hispanics and "Natives". Whites had no reason to fight and die to free slaves that 98% of the population had nothing to do with. The war was more about preserving the union. The south did want to keep slavery though. But after the war we forced all of them, blacks and "natives" especially to free them. Black owners got insanely wealthy off enslaving their own people. But we don't talk about any of that. Wonder why.

As a gen X male from the class of 1977, the General Lee was one of my favorite TV show cars. However, KITT was the car that became my dream car. I told my young self that when I was old enough to drive my first car was going to be a Trans Am. Indeed, I kept that promise and bought a 1986 Firebird 5.0 in 2000. I've had several Firebirds and Trans Ams since then. Currently I'm driving a 2001 Trans Am. The General Lee is cool. KITT is badass. There really isn't any contest in my opinion. When given the choice between a virtually indestructible 1982 Trans Am that can drive itself, talk to you, and is loaded with an assortment of cool features including but not limited to Turbo Boost its easy to see why anyone would take KITT if given the choice between him and General Lee. No Disrespect to the General by the way.

Birth of a Legend. It's a great show, a classic show, a good-hearted show, a fun show. Sad to see the show under threat again in 2020 because people are upset because of what the Flag means to them that day- It may just be light entertainment but it's still Art & Art shouldn't be censored. it's the intention of the Artists that counts not the interpretation of an audience member or viewer.

Thousands of black soldiers fought FOR the Confederacy. Thousands of black soldiers CARRIED that flag onto the battlefields. Thousands of black soldiers DIED defending that flag. Isn"t it disrespectful to them to NOT fly it ? I think so.

There are no records of black soldiers fighting for the Confederacy as combat troops. Lots of the served as aids and laborers to be sure.

I have read extensively on the war for over 20 years. Books. Letters. Journals. Confederate first hand accounts. Slave and soldier's writings.

Rubens Junior The main reason for the civil war was NOT over slavery, and you are just as brainwashed on that topic as everyone else coming out of American public school system. From the start, Good old Ab Lincoln believed in preserving the slaves in south if it could preserve the union. The main reason was unfair taxes on shipments of goods to the UK after the war of 1812. After that war the United States placed heavy taxes on exports to that country in an effort to complete severe any ties with Great Britain. Since Cotton and Tobacco were major exports to UK, they became the south's only source of revenue. The British refused to purchase those goods at such a major price. Scared the business in the south would go broke, the southern states argued with the U.S. Government to reduce the tax on exports for which the Government refused. Fearing the States HAD NO RIGHTS to choose their own exports and to whom to export to, they threatened to seceded from the union. Its wasn't about slavery. It was about MONEY! MONEY MONEY MONEY drives everything. The slave issue was inter-woven into the whole mess.

ILSRWY4 Read Texas, Missipssi, Louisiana, South Carolina, and Georgia's succession documents. They all list slavery as a reason for being traitors.

    Hi Dukes Fans!
Im a big Dukes of Hazzards fan myself...i was reading your comments & wanted to add...im 41 years old, ive been watching the Dukes of Hazzard since i was a kid...NOT ONCE did the message of that show promoted hate towards blacks...the show DID NOT promote racism towards other cultures...the Duke Boys got along with everyone & promoted kindness, friendship & all around fun for all people in society. This racism bull crap is sumone who wanted to start a typical argument because they are probably unemployed & wanted to feel important. They can take the show off the air, but i will continue to promote the goodness this show has towards people.

This isn't the first episode. It is from an episode in the later seasons where they look back on how they got the car.

im mexican american and i don't feel that flag is racist, and i have no problem with white people feeling proud of that flag. everybody needs to be proud of the roots they come from so we can all come together as americans and make our country great. 🇺🇸

Also as a black man and the fact that this show has been taken off the air because some racist idiot wanted to use the confederate flag as a symbol of hate is a shame. It's heritage, not hate plain and simple
In fact Id love to own a General Lee if I had the money and means to restore one

I was an outdoor kid. My mom had a conference in another state and I had nothing to do in the hotel other than watch tv. It was the first time I saw Dukes of Hazard AND the Pink Panther. This was like 1979 or 1980 and I was hooked on both. I never went outside again. I just watched tv
