Thanks for researching this important topic. I had wondered why I got hungry earlier after consuming the spring gels. On the other hand, they are by far the tastiest out there! Awesome sauce tastes like eating apple pie and speednut tastes like a pb&j sandwich. Please Spring Gels, fix this or someone else make gels that don’t taste like syrup!!

You can keep eating your spring things after adjusting the calories intake they actually provide (16g instead of 45)

Harsh but fair. Your indignation is well justified.

Thanks. I feel I should have raised an eyebrow more scornfully. But I didn't have the calories to do it.

How much weight did you loos during race and on the next 3 days? If there was no significant fat and protein mass loss, then what is the trouble? In my opinion: if those gels work for you- use them. It is better to eat to little calories, then to have stomach trouble. Lie or no lie on the label. But I to don't like to be cheated .
I think using concentrated energy gels is the cause of stomach problems. These spring gels ware better exactly cause thy ware less concentrated.
    Proposed solutions:
1- eat more often less concentrated gel or use drink- shots
2- black tea concentrates, blue bury concentrates and koko before race as a part of normal diet
3- some probiotics might help- sanprobi stress f.e.
4- one of my friends had benefited from starting natrium (salt) reach diet 7 days before the race
5- if all else fails: before a race (but not on training days) take 80 mg of drotawerine or 4 mg of loperamid (only if there is no other way, and you can't run without racing)
In my line of work oversimplifying explanation and ignoring the facts, to make patient do, what he should do, is everyday situation. I'm not happy about it, but it is in many cases the only way. I do now it is lies, but people just don't want to hear "If I ware you, I would do that" as the only incentive. They just don't have enough medical knowledge to explain to them, why I sugest something. So I tell them, what they need to hear (lies in my opinion). Does that make me a crook? As far as I know, every doctor does that. Some say, that they don't, but those are just not sincere (even to them self).

As far as why I think carbs are necessary, I think at the moment I can get about 300kcal per hour from fat oxidation (at most). That is enough to walk, maybe run a bit. By supplementing 2-300 kcal per hour in carbs I should be generating enough energy to run ok. That is the theory anyway. Making the truth palatable to a patient is completely understandable. Misleading food labelling is not.
