Thank you for covering this story.. Tom and I were homeroom classmates, and I remember the next morning, all of our teachers were frantic and crying. Notably, his best friends in our homeroom were distraught and understood the news, even for being only 11 years old. His death has significantly changed our young lives, some of us have kept him in our memories through a tattoo of his name or the reason for our career paths.
Yeah his attempt at revenge was so utterly misplaced. Its hard to see how someone with this level of delusion remained at large for so long. And he probably would never have been caught if he didn't go back 5 years later for the brumbeck's. This is beyond madness, beyond narcissism.
Yeah, I'm a real bad boy, I strangled a sleeping kitten, knocked over a nest of chicks, pushed an old lady down the stairs and punched a baby in the face. Guess you could say I'm a bit of a tough guy.
Just shows that when someone has a vice, it controls them to the point it kills them. And makes them stupid. And in this case evil. If he killed me I would be right there to greet him so he could see he can't get rid of me that easily. Then I would probably not bother him until judgement day when I have to testify with everyone else. I'd have better things to do.

Dr. Roger Brumback was my cousin. I never knew him and didnt know anything of him until I started doing family history research and came across news articles and etc about him. Since you dont exactly see the name Brumback every day I decided to try and see if I could draw a connection and sure enough, he's my Papa Brumback's cousin. Dr. Brumback seems to have left behind a humble legacy of hard work and a life devoted to helping others and I'm really proud to be related to him. Great video as usual, Mike.
I appreshibanate all of y'alls who wished me and my family well and condolences; keep in mind however your condolences would be better expressed on a memorial page for Dr. Brumback rather than to me, as like I said I never ever met Dr. Brumback nor did I even know of his very existence while he was alive. I likely would never have known of him at all had it not been for his relationship to my grandfather and my own interest in my personal genealogy and then of course his notoriety from being a victim of this disturbed individual "Dr." Garcia. It's sad because I've read several things authored by Dr. Brumback now and I have to say that this man deserves to be held up and celebrated as someone who made it a point to use their own life in the service of the one human family to which we all belong... he had a hand in doing too much good to only end up being defined by his victimhood. I choose to think of the good doctor Roger Brumback, first and foremost, as just that: not as my 2nd cousin, not as Garcia's victim, but as the doctor who used his knowledge and skills to help and ease the pain of others. I hope Garcia gets hip to himself before his "big day" comes, just as I hope we all do. My heart is with him as well, as much as it can be. I've gone on talking about this for too long Haha. Find a memorial page for Dr. Brumback and let his actual, meaningful family know your thoughts are with them! But thank you all, nonetheless! Be well, everyone who happens to see this! Tom’s dad being a pathologist probably had a lot to do with his “weird” reaction too. On the 911 call I believe he says they’re ‘deceased’ rather than dead and he doesn’t show much outward emotion, but I imagine working around death so much can numb you at the same time that losing your son numbs you.
Definitely. I'm a doctor and can confirm that it's *extremely* common for doctors to become very clinical when they're in shock from a personal trauma.
There is no way that this creep was actually sleeping throughout the whole entire trial. What his pitiful performance was supposed to prove, I haven't a clue.

I'm sure it was investigated throughly! It took the husband and wife's murder to put together a lead. Plus earlier that day he tried to get the other woman Dr first, but she wasn't home. Or there would have been 3 murders that day instead of 2
the most infuriating thing about the first set of murders was that they seemingly exclusively focused on the activity of a child purely because of his connection to video games and the internet rather than the careers of the parents, which was the actual connection. i know our relationship with games and the internet changed since 2008, but damn that makes me angry.
No. It was because the adult, the more likely target via age, was only there sporadically. It’s not where you’d go to kill her. Nothing was taken, so it wasn’t a robbery, and your initial thought as a cop, is that people don’t usually kill a person’s family out of anger for that person. It’s rare. Most killers make sure they know when their target will be home. They either already know it, or will stalk them in order to obtain that information. So yes, the first thought would be a predator online. Perhaps some sick pedo had gotten to him, found out where he lived, showed up, wasn’t expecting the house keeper, killed them both and dipped. This case is an outlier. And it’s not even that he wanted to punish the first doctor by taking his son. It is purely because the man was lazy and incompetent, as evidenced by his work history, and frankly, just a fecking moron. Hence, Canda.
Kind of like when a prostitute gets murdered and police don't warn the women in the community to take more precautions cause he's not killing "good girls"

You're making it FAR more difficult than our is!!!! People killing people is actually a VERY human thing to do!! Look in the holy bible, the first family, the first set of twins... one murders the other!! Not only that, but you need to really see ending a life foe what it truly is!! There are millions of abortions performed every year in this country, and because you've been taught it's a womans right, it's her body, etc... we allow it on our legal books!! TRUTH is, they are living beings, they feel and since the pain and fear, all proven beyond a doubt that fetus IS SCARED, AND KNOWS IT IS IN DANGER!!!! THAT IS MURDER.... however, millions of people vote for those laws to remain in tact and many have no feeling about it whatsoever!!!!! The state murders killers every year and has done so ever since murder has existed... its ok for us to kill you, because you've taken the life of someone!!! The only thing people learn from any of these laws is that is perfectly acceptable to end the life of another human being provided that we believe society is better off without them in it!!!! It's also because most people believe that DEATH is a horrible thing!! But... what if you found out that your a prisoner, your body is the prison suit, and the only way out of this "death" REALM is to accept a gift given to you of forgiveness!! If you knew that your true life, your true existence was on a realm where there is NO DEATH AT ALL, NO DEATH, NO TEARS, NOTHING HORRIBLE... AND THAT YOU COULD LIVE THERE AS A PRINCE, ROYALTY FOREVER A PART OF A LOVING FAMILY??!! THE ONLY WAY TO GET THERE, IS TO DIE IN THE REALM OF DEATH....
Officer is right. Sane people don't understand killers, and you'll make yourself insane trying. If it's causing you much anxiety I'd really recommend moving away from the true crime genre in general, you'll feel some relief. Otherwise, do pace yourself and be careful with your mental health

Thank you Mike for this video. I will never forget a comment on a video with this Garcia guy pretending to sleep during sentencing. I can't get over the fact he dozed off during most of his sentencing, even though they said he had been medicated for health problems. This will always stand out for me. I was almost picked as a juror for this trial. I said to the lawyers "This guy holds long grudges. What happens if he gets out on a technicality and then 10 years later he comes after you guys or the jury." Thats when the defense attorney said "nope". And as I walked out of the room I said "Guilty"
My grandfather was almost picked for a case back in the 1970’s. The basic gist of it is that the guy had sexual assaulted his three daughters and impregnated the oldest. He than killed them and disposed of their bodies. My grandpa after hearing the details turned to the attorney said “ I’m sorry but I cannot be impartial. However if you let him get off I will be in that same chair for showing him what Vietnam did to me.” And to this day I think that’s the most badass thing a human being has ever said.
I don't think he held long grudges. He simply got tired of the doctors giving him a poor reference making it difficult to obtain employment. It's no different than someone being blackballed or blacklisted. My question is why didn't some medical board actually step in instead of this particular place being the reason he was struggling to find work? Even if he was a poor quality doctor, it was something that should've been addressed by the places he received his credentials or professional medical boards. It was a personal vendetta. They've literally had people get employed as a dr that did not have medical degrees nor training. There was a doctor that poisoned people and went to prison for poisoning his fellow residents yet he continued to be hired at various hospitals so it isn't unfathomable that this was personal not professional.

@EmperorJuliusCaesar it means when you seek revenge, your going to hurt yourself while hurting someone else.
@SUCKMEOFF ROPER bro stop, not funny and ur mad creepy for saying something like that.

Yeah, I'm a real bad boy, I strangled a sleeping kitten, knocked over a nest of chicks, pushed an old lady down the stairs and punched a baby in the face. Guess you could say I'm a bit of a tough guy.
Just shows that when someone has a vice,
it controls them to the point it kills them.
And makes them stupid.
And in this case evil.
If he killed me I would be right there to greet him so he could see he can't get rid of me that easily. Then I would probably not bother him until judgement day when I have to testify with everyone else. I'd have better things to do.

Tunnel vision. It's a disease among cops
the most infuriating thing about the first set of murders was that they seemingly exclusively focused on the activity of a child purely because of his connection to video games and the internet rather than the careers of the parents, which was the actual connection. i know our relationship with games and the internet changed since 2008, but damn that makes me angry.
Also they ignored the fact that the target might have been the nanny.
@@ppumpkin3282 she was only there once a week, if she were the target they would've killed her somewhere else most likely

I really like these stories but I have to pace myself because I'm having nightmares. I asked a police officer I knew if he understood murderers and he told me that there is no understanding it. He said that trying to understand murderers can itself cause psychological problems. He wasn't joking.

I have had PCOS and Endometriosis since I started menstruating at age 8, and I’ve had kidney stones fairly often since I gave birth to my son 8 years ago. It can be excruciating when it all builds up.
@@billpardy4094 ok I thought your name was Bill. My wife had endometriosis and it was terrible for her. She had to take medication for it but it's all good now.
Haha "Canda" how did he even get that far in medical school at all!
“ That will impress her. Well it didn’t impress the jury who found him guilty.” This is the joke that made me subscribe to your channel. Lol
Don’t think we will ever know how much research and work goes into these productions. Mike should have his own spot on TV!
Judge: I hearby sentence you to death!
Garcia: Zzzzzzz brrrrr zzzzz brrrrr
Apparently he was all jacked up prior to court and he got a shot of Geodon. There was someone who commented on another video that they were the nurse that give it to him.
I’m so glad someone else commented on that 😅
Guy, Mike said he was sentenced to death then cut to that. I thought he was already dead. He did not age well.
Roflmao
@@sweetjohnny8211 So true good one !!!

Falls asleep: sentenced to life in prison
Wakes up: did I miss anything?
He was sentenced to death. Fun fact we reinstated the death penalty here in Nebraska by vote so he will be seeing his sentence.
@@lancetheman28 unfortunately it will take 30 years and thousands of tax payers dollars
thank you Mike. I used to work for a medical publisher and Dr. Brumbak was one of our authors. I asked for this video months ago, thank you so much for putting this together. I'm going to send this link over to his son. thanks again!!
Why?
Talk about a non-essential worker.
You know, essentially.
The “ playing possum” during the sentencing was priceless!!!! Love you, Mike
He was on a medication called Geodon I believe it's like a anti phycotic, anti depressant and calms the nerves.
I remember this case on Dateline! I watched it over and over again. I am beyond grateful for the victims getting justice.
they did not get anything. I can also see Dr. Garcia as a victim of the people who fucked his life over petty things.
There you are, our handsome, sassy, Irishman! I’ve been waiting!
I was almost picked as a juror for this trial. I said to the lawyers "This guy holds long grudges. What happens if he gets out on a technicality and then 10 years later he comes after you guys or the jury."
Thats when the defense attorney said "nope".
However if you let him get off I will be in that same chair for showing him what Vietnam did to me.” And to this day I think that’s the most badass thing a human being has ever said.
today on 'things that never happened'
@@mattmaniac3740 Seriously. What an embarrassing lie to tell!

2 days after a video from Mike, I'm thinking "has it been tree days yet?!" and then on the third day I'm refreshing my notifications quite a few times 😄 love your videos!
Haha thanks Mai!
You mean on the turd day 😆
I like how even when someone murders people they still call them dr as if they are deserving of that recognition.
Doesn't erase your earned doctorate 🤷🏾♀️
Maybe to remind them each time their title is used of what they have thrown away as well as the hippocratic oath, at first do no harm.

I love Mike's humor even on serious subject matter.

You're a talented story teller, and savvy video producer. Watching these videos has become my latest hobby.
He actually wrote himself a "brush teeth, floss:" note.
He was the type of dude to look himself in the mirror every morning like "you watch yourself out there" *double pistols*
To think if he had only written down "don't kill people" it could have all been avoided...
