    I want to hear from you. Where are you headed on safari? What questions do you have? And don't forget to head to SavingWild.com for much more information on African safaris.

      LoriSavingWild I’m going to Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Hoedspruit in Kruger National Park.

    I did not mention rain jackets. Most safari packing lists do include rain jacket. I don't because I don't mind a little rain and the camps usually have umbrellas and ponchos for people who don't have a rain jacket. It's your call on that item.

    Your videos are great. My question is how do you pack for safari and then going to capetown and Johannesburg too.

      Hi, Thanks for your question. CT and JHB are casual or fancy so you do not necessarily need to add extra clothes. But if you want to, then it depends on your specific itinerary and the time of year you are going there. Whoever you used as your safari operator can help with more specific answers.

    Lori, thanks for this informative video (and part 1!). I'm going on a safari to Tanzania in about 2 weeks (Ruaha, Katavi, Selous then Zanzibar) and I'm already all packed with the help of your videos. I've subscribed so I can watch as you produce more...keep them coming please! Quick question...I've read that the camps don't launder undergarments for cultural reasons. Have you had this experience? I'm planning on bringing some Tide travel sink packets regardless but I'm just curious what you have found regarding undergarments in your Africa travels. Thanks in advance for any help on this!

      Great question and I wish I would have put this in my video. Next time when I do a new one I will. They DO NOT launder our intimate undergarments. You are correct. And yes it is for cultural reasons. I suggest you take something more eco friendly than TIDE because you are in the bush and the environment is sensitive. WHat I usually take is Dr. Bronners soap which is good for anything. They come in travel size bottles. Or I also will use the shampoo the camps have. That works well too. I hope that helps. Tanzania's southern circuit is wonderful and less touristy. Have a great trip.

      @@LoriSavingWild Thank you for the tip to be more eco friendly by using Dr. Bronners. I'll leave my Tide packets at home :)

    Hi Lori! Fantastic info! This is our 1st safari- going to Botswana and SA for a month including Capetown for 5 days. Botswana for 8 days (Linyanti -kings pool, Okavango -Duba Explorers and Kwai concession-Tuludi. Then off to SA to Sabi-Mala Mala and ending safari in Linyetti at Tintswalo. Capetown for 5 days and fly home. We are late 60/70 and we need a wheeled duffle for weight limit not to exceed 44 lbs including hand luggage. I have looked at Patagonia, Eagle Creek hauler, etc. all around 110 L. If your duffle is over 30c -the hauler is 32 c will they let it on the bush plane? What about a carryon bag that we can put our meds, electronics, etc. that we can use as cross body bags-I assume that doesn’t count as weight since you are wearing it? We have travelled all over the world and this is going to be challenging.

    Hi - I noticed that you have included a regular watch. Do you recommend that for everyone or would an iPhone be adequate for keeping track of time? Thanks!

      Saving Wild It will be nice to not rely on technology and get a much needed break from all of that! Old school watch it is ☺️

    Hi Lori, Is black not a good color for pants during the day? I ask because I have a pair of stretchy yoga pants in black (similar to yours), but they're capri style and probably better for day wear rather than nighttime. If black isn't good during the day, I'll leave them home. Thanks.

      Hi Sarah, good question. Black and dark blue are the two colors that tsetse flies are attracted to so most safari operators suggest bringing more muted colors. That being said, some people do bring a pair of jeans and wear those during day and night. But they are harder to launder because they take longer to dry. And at night you can wear any color but as you are limited by luggage space and weight it is better to pack things you can wear at any time of day or night and that match everything you are packing. Long answer but in general you probably wont wear the black pants in the day. So, they would be extra for night. Make sense?

      @sarahwestling9438 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally makes sense. Thanks, Lori! And that's super interesting and good to know about the color black and dark blue attracting tsetse flies. Eek. I don't want that. The pants will stay home. :-)

    I have read that taking plastic bags into Kenya is illegal and can really slow you up going through customs if you try to sneak them in. Plastic bags are not allowed. Are you aware of that restriction?

    • @LoriSavingWild
      @LoriSavingWild  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mary, I was part of an effort to ban plastic bags because of all the pollution they cause when there is no organized garbage disposal. Its a long story but there is a video about it on my channel. Anyway, I hate plastic bags but find them useful (just a couple) to put garbage into while out on safari etc and then you can empty the trash and keep using the bag. In hundreds of clients no one has ever been stopped at customs for plastic bags. But thank you for your point. I will think of an alternative.

    Great video! My husband and I are going on Safari in Botswana and South Africa for 11 days in July. Would all your packing suggestions apply in those countries at that time of year?

    • @LoriSavingWild
      @LoriSavingWild  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Luanne, Sounds like a great journey. I am excited for you. Yes, my 3 packing videos apply to your situation. It is Winter in Bots and South Africa in July so it will be cold in the mornings and maybe a little rainy. I hope that helps.

    • @LoriSavingWild
      @LoriSavingWild  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure where you are going in SA. But if you are on safari then yes they would apply. But whoever you used to design your itinerary (your operator) can give more specifics. Thanks for watching. Have a great safari.
