    I remember as a kid being annoyed that my teacher made us watch this movie in 9th grade English class. But now I know why.
    Than you kindly Mrs Yasana. ❤️

    The best western ever, no doubt about it, and yet, it is not the canonical western... Ford at his best,, Irish sensivity and poetry... Hard to hold the tears.

    Is'nt it just like a woman? She rejects the man who really loved her only to come back 25 years later after he dies to finally realize it. And that she married the wrong man

    The story is a classic and very nostalgic. The movie elicits many emotions and at same time very entertaining.

    Even a short scene without much dialog or action draws you in. That is great movie making. They were real artists.

    Interesting to note that at 0:37 in the opening credits, there is a list of the finest character actors in the business. Carradine, Nolan, Strode, Pyle, Martin, Van Cleef...my God!

    Andy Devine, another great character actor and I remember him being Wild Bill Hickock's side kick on kid's TV in the 50's.
    He had his own kid's show, too, with a nasty frog....Anybody remember 'Pluck your magic twanger froggy'....?
    He also played a sheriff in It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World' and that's about the last time I remembered seeing him in a movie.

      @ 6 String Fan he also was in a twilight zone episode where he was considered by his friends as the biggest/ greatest liar on earth, his friends gave him a trophy marked with that, he was abducted ny aliens who did not know what a lie was, so they believed all he said, they thought he was the smartest man on earth, if you have never seen it , check it out 1/2 hour episode is really good, do not want to tell you the ending & spoil it for you.

    I like to watch the credit list and see what up and coming “stars” are doing their first movie. These old flicks were the starting point for tons of new actors, especially going into the ‘60’s and ‘70’s. This movie and The Quiet Man were Wayne’s very best films , bar none.

      I have been known to make mistakes before, but I like how Jim Carey played bit part as a DJ who was killed off in Play misty for me with Clint Eastwood. Not even a main character .

      I’m surprised Yakima Kanuk wasn’t in it. He was always in the old school John Wayne credits. A really great actor and often stunt man for John Wayne in horse scenes ❤️

      Jimmy Fischbeck that’s the same thing that people said who used to go to the movies in the 30s and 40s about this movie from the early 60s. Things change jimmy. I don’t like it either. But things change.

      @@kirkmoore4515 I agree with that, love his parents. they were a riot on Seinfeld. " you want a piece of this !!". Made me sad when his mom died. I have to admit he made me laugh in water boy. and in zoo lander. Now looking back Kirk, I think you caught me being snobbish. Not every body can be a Sidney Pointier or Laurence Olivier, we NEED our Cloris Leachman's and Benny Hills in our life too. Benny Hill too was a very good compassionate man who did good for others behind scenes. He cared for his mom in her home till she passed away. I stand corrected, but smiling thinking of zoo lander and those model faces he made.

    Anyone notice that the train appears to have one carriage at 1:35, but two carriages at 2:00? There was an awkward cut at 1:54 when the second carriage was about to appear at the station, but it made its appearance moments later! Strange apparent continuity error right at the beginning of the movie, unless I got it wrong and all the smoke and steam at 1:35 turned out to be a real-life smokescreen!

    When America's principles and values were alive 💔

    • @lairddougal3833
      @lairddougal3833 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well that’s a nice piece of revisionism. The US was at the time in the final throes of committing genocide against native Americans. It had stolen vast tracts of land and done so at the point of a gun. The rule of law was as much as function of might as it was a reflection of values. Many so called peace officers in the West were themselves former outlaws. THE Irish were considered and treated like animals. People of colour were brutalised, women were little better than slaves. In cattle country sheep farmers were often murdered… the list goes on.
      You mean THOSE values?

    • @sq343
      @sq343 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lairddougal3833 Actually no. What I meant was how to pay attention to the simple aspects and the authentic values that held the characters together in their town. Also paying attention to the importance of law and appreciating its role in organizing society. And let's not forget that the film reflected the importance of knowing the law and the people's knowledge of their rights through it. This is what we saw in the scene where James Stewart reminds the black actor who was standing in front of Lincoln's picture in school, that people are equal, I think it was a beautiful symbolic scene. Reminding people of these things, with this simplicity and beauty, is what distinguished the film par excellence. This is what we miss now in American films that make fun of everything, as if there is no any kind of meaning behind our lives!
