Joe Duffy, the Irish broadcaster and author, explains why the necrology wall in Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin should not be demolished. Also interviewed are two relatives of Eleanor Warbrook (15) who was shot dead during the 1916 Rising in Dublin and written out of Irish history until now.

Must be a reason why it was the only wall of its kind in the world. Anything about remembering civilians, but we should not be immortalising members of the crown forces who oppressed our country’s right to self governance and its people. Putting their names beside those who gave their life for our freedom was bonkers. Glad the wall is no more and hopefully we can find another way to remember the civilians (provided they weren’t British informers) and those who died so we could be free.

@@karlmartin2698 You're welcome. Karl. But honestly this wall looks like a deliberate provocation to stir up trouble. The civilians could have been on it and the Crown forces at Islandbridge. Whoever vandalised it was wrong to do so I must add but whoever put it up also knew what they were doing.
