    I haven't read this particular book but I found an interesting book many years ago (still on my book shelf) titled The Myth of the Machine (Mumford) which also discussed this subject in extraordinary detail. It was my first exploration of how we turned science into a religion and lost touch with the very roots of the scientific thought/method which was born, ironically, out of a response to religion. The author talks at length about how corporate funding dictates the directions of scientific research and the pressure for scientists to be published in research journals (the business of science). I wonder if the author has read Mumford's book?

    • @Deliquescentinsight
      @Deliquescentinsight 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Corporate funding, precisely, I call this "The Billionaire Consensus Club", where very wealthy groups of people have basically hijacked science through their funding hegemony; if you don't like the real science you can push it into whichever shape favors your own views!

    • @AS-zw4lk
      @AS-zw4lk 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sadly, this too often seems to be the case. Science has become a kind of dogma instead of a way to understand ourselves, nature and our place in it. This desire to 'control' nature (for our pleasure) is not only perilous but demonstrates our technical superiority and psychological inferiority.

    • @kerryburns6041

      @@AS-zw4lk Just ordered the book, looking forward to reading it, thank you. Scientists are like zebras, camouflaged to fit in with the herd for fear of being de-funded.

      I haven't read Rupert's book nor that what you mentioned. But just wanted to say that i've been thinking lately that Science and Religion actually came from the same source, but the problem is not that science turned into a religion (in the end i think that it's misunderstanding of language), the problem is that Science became an institution and did the same that the Catholic Church did to the shamanic religions, they bringed down these kind of traditions and forbid communitary religions, and then put the Church as an intermediary between people and Spiritual Truth, it seems that they didn't like religions that made spiritual truth accesible to every layman. This, i think, is echoed in the fall of Eleusinian Mysteries for example.
      To circle back to science, i think that it became institutionalized and now the institution doesn't like to be defied as the sole intermediary between the population and the truth. In other words, Science has become to Reason what the Church became to the Spirit, so to speak.
      What do you think about it?

    The secret 11th Dogma: Science is non-dogmatic by definition, and scientists must always maintain the appearance of rational skepticism and non-dogmatism so they can accuse all critics of their ideological tyranny of attacking straw men.

    • @jasonpauli8725
      @jasonpauli8725 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I am not against "Science" in it's contemporary form. But it is annoying to see its methodological assumptions transformed into philosophical dogmas, and expanded into areas of inquiry outside the domains of the branches of science in which those assumptions were originally made. "Science" (or perhaps "Scientism") seems to have attained ascendancy over Philosophy itself.

    TV shows on PBS like 'Who Do You Think You Are' make the science of DNA seem like it's real. Commercials about DNA testing do the same thing, as do reality shows determining paternity. They never tell us that genetic science is hypothetical.
    As I'm listening to Rupert the following lyrics by Styx start playing in my mind:
    Welcome to the Grand illusion
    Don't be fooled by the radio
    The TV or the magazines
    They show you photographs of how your life should be
    But they're just someone else's fantasy
    So if you think your life is complete confusion
    Because you never win the game
    Just remember that it's a grand illusion
    'Cause deep inside we're all the same
    Science media shows us photographs to back up their hypotheses but that doesn't prove these hypothetical objects actually exist in real life.

    Yes I have seen this myself on Wikipedia. There are indeed corporate paid writers who are given a monitoring position on Wikipedia which stands in contrast to the original Wikipedia mission of having the website as a collective democratic process. Obviously the corporate agenda gets their corporate fingers into almost every institution or organization nowadays including Wikipedia. As an animal rights activist I get to experience and observe this when I post articles on the Internet where I get my posts deleted, where I get banned, where I get my response notifications turned off every day here on TH-cam, the list goes on and where I had to struggle with those monitoring managers on Wikipedia in regards to my additions to specific information pages.

    • @BeguillingMirage
      @BeguillingMirage 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In a sense. When delving into the details of the morphogenetic field theory he discusses consciousness hierarchies, or expanding fields of consciousness beginning at the Subatomic level and expanding outward through ever increasing levels of physical complexity (atoms, cells, animals, ecosystems, biomes, stars, solar systems, galaxies.. etc)
      This theory’s culmination represents the divinity aspect as a universal consciousness.
      And thus the interplay of science and religion stretches closer to concrescence.

    Dr. Rupert Sheldrake, thank you very much for posting this video. I was wondering if you could show us proof of DNA and/or genes?
    After learning about how DNA was thought up by Watson and Crick who used Dr. Franklin's photo 51, I am skeptical of the whole shebang. Photo 51 doesn't even have a twist to it, or enough of one, like the Xs on helical DNA do, so how can Photo 51 even pass off as a part of a DNA strand? And are the bars even crossing and making an X in photo 51? They look like two separate "lines" that come near each other in the middle to me, like this: > < that do not cross.
    Dr. Franklin named it photo 51 because she didn't know what it was and it seems neither she, nor anybody else, was ever able to replicate it again. Talk about a reproducibility crisis.

    It's a pity that RS's work is confined entirely to the 'psychic' realm. You get an even more vitriolic reaction if you conduct, perfectly scientifically, replicable experiments using 'normal' scientific methods involving test-tubes, chemicals, cultures, and microscopes. Some of these experiments produce results that contradict the dogmas of mechanistic materialism. No-one will even look at them, at your videos (channel orglancs), or at anything you write about them. Some of these experiments even contradict Darwinism. Scientists make up the first excuse they can think of to dismiss your work. The excuses vary from 'scientist' to 'scientist', demonstrating that they are clutching at straws. All power to Rupert's elbow. Let's hope this new edition of his book will pull open the door yet a few more centimetres and let even more light in.
