Ikea Hack | How I Made My Cutting/Sewing and Crafting Table

  • Hi Guys. I posted a picture of my table on instagram and several of you wanted to know how I did it. Here is a quick video on how I put it all together. Materials are listed below.
Most of these ideas for this table did not come from me. I got them off of Pinterest from different pins. I just wanted to say that so that everyone knows! LOL
You will need the following materials
    Ikea Materials
    2- 2 x 4 Kallax Units
    go.magik.ly/ml/hnt1/
    Fixya
    go.magik.ly/ml/hnrz/
    Lowes
    1 -¾” thick plywood cut down to 30 ¾”x 57 7/8”
    go.magik.ly/ml/hnt7/
    1 - 36 x 80 hollow door
    go.magik.ly/ml/hnsq/
5- 3” caster wheels with brakes 4 can have brakes and the one that goes in the middle doesn’t have to have a brake.
    go.magik.ly/ml/hnte/
20 screws to screw in wheels
    Walmart
    Shelf Liner
    go.magik.ly/ml/hntk/
    Target
Alternative if you don’t have an IKEA near buy. These shelves are close in dimension to the ikea ones, but you would have to cut the plywood to a slightly different size to accodomate these shelves.
    go.magik.ly/ml/hntt/
Be sure to use your coupons for Joann and Michaels purchases.
    Joann
Ottlite - Not sure why this is so expensive now. I got mine for around 40.00!
    go.magik.ly/ml/hnve/
    Michaels
    Ashland Storage Desktop Carousel
    go.magik.ly/ml/hnvr/
    Instructions.
Assembly the shelving units according to the directions that come with it.
Get plywood cut down to appropriate size.
Get your wheels you want to use and screw them into the plywood. Make sure your screws are not longer than ¾”. Attach one wheel on each corner of the plywood and one in the center of the plywood.
Cut sheets of the shelf liner and lay them on each end of the plywood.
Set both shelving units on the plywood butted up against each other.
Cut more sheets of shelf liners and put one sheet on each end of the shelving unit and one in the center of the shelving unit.
Place door on top of shelving unit and you are good to go.
Note: I did not stain my wooden door, but you most certainly can if you would like.

Job well done guys! What a great relationship you and Jordan have and how fun to have been able to work together on this project. This table will be a workhorse for you and hold memories to last a lifetime. If I may say this, it's very nice to see a young boy/man growing up to be a fabulous man. Boys today have so many challenges and voices to listen to. My hats off to both of you.

This is awesome! Thank you so much for sharing how you did this! I came across a smaller version but the kallax units were attached to the top and bottom wood making everything permanent. I love the idea of leaving them unattached and using the grip stuff so that I could easily disassemble it when needing to set up a bed for overnight guests. It's the best of both worlds! And I love that light! Your son is adorable and I loved that he helped build it. 😉 Great job to you and Jordan!! 👏
