    If you guys wanted to know.
    The real reason why Mitsuha's father finally called the evacuation and believed his daughter was when he saw the comet split, he saw the spitting image of his late wife in his daughter.
    He actually first arrived as a young adult researching the town for a historical project many years prior to the events of Your Name. He met Futaba, interviewed her and had a professional relationship with her. However, that was how they both fell in love. She told him that there was a legend that a comet had created the lake of the town which as a local legend. The more time he spent there, the more he knew he wanted to stay. He gave up his job, his family and left it all just to be with Futaba. So they married. Like Mitsuha, Futaba also had a lot of dreams when she was shrine maiden, just like the grandma.
    Futaba unfortunately died of an illness where her immune cells went out of control and there was no cure. And when she died, it crushed Toshiki entirely. So he motivated himself to improve the town and cast aside his life as a priest. But all of that came flooding back when he saw the comet split. He remembered when his late wife told him the legend of how the lake was formed from a comet thousands of years ago.

      @@Jose.AFT.Saddul They released a manga adaptation of Your Name. Titled Another Side: Earthbound
      Volume 2 of that talks about Mitsuha's parents and shows the story about how they met and got married. And it also follows Mitsuha's dad after the mom passes away and reveals that he realized Mitsuha was telling the truth.

    • @gmatgmat
      @gmatgmat 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hellowhat890 There is also second novel adaptation of Your Name by a different author than Makoto Shinkai, who did the first. It explores the Father and Mitsuha in more detail than in the movie. Mitsuha is more assertive in her relationship with Taki than in the movie. It also kinda dovetails with your account of why the Father left his family. He blames the wife's family for her death and worked to undo their power and influence in the town. I guess that's why he is portrayed as more unsympathetic in the film. This isn't fan fiction, but I don't remember the Author's connection with Makoto Shinkai. Makoto Shinkai's adaptation seems to be a retelling of the movie. Both were published in English, too.

    • @KralizecCL
      @KralizecCL 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There is a light novel for that material, "Your Name. Another side: Earthbound". Author is Arata Kanoh. In the light novel, the details are explained much more deeper.
      What you explained is almost there.
      The reason why Mitsuha's parent, Toshiki Miyamizu, did change his mind is tied to the dead of his beloved wife, Futaba Miyamizu. She actually refused to go to a modern hospital when they (too late) realized she was very sick, and that was only when Toshiki carried her unconscious to a small town hospital, where the lethal diagnose was made. And even then Futaba refused to be carried to a specialized care center where she might have actually survived: she did not know why she was refusing, but she felt that was the way things should be. In her last days she told Toshiki "Everyone finally fit wherever they should be". Toshiki believed she was surrendering life, and wanting to die. And then she died, and Toshiki received her last words of Futaba to him: "This is not a good bye".
      Toshiki blamed his wife's attitude to the shrine's superstition enforced by her family, so he planned to finish with those old and outdated traditions that led her beloved wife to death and for that he needed to modernize Itomori. That's why he become politician to be the major that will lead those changes.
      Then the day of the comet Tiamat came, and Toshiki discussed with Mitsuha (Taki) and did not beliieve her (him). Much later granma Hitoha Miyamizu arrived to his office pleading him to hear and believe Mitsuha. But he already did not. And then Toshiki saw the comet splitting in two, and he did remember the first conversation he had with Futoba, where they recalled the old miths that spoke of a fight of the shrine's god Shitori-no-kami (Musubi) with a dragon god in the sky that even they (Toshiki and Futoba back then) thought it might be has been a comet. And the dragon was striking again. Finally (the real) Mitsuha arrived, and suddenly Toshiki understood what his wife told him: "Everyone finally fit wherever they should be": it was his destiny to have him in office that same day, being able hear and believe Mitsuha and having the power to order everyone to evacuate the town. And that would never had happen unless Futoba's destiny was to die years ago. Besides, he then saw his wife's face on Mitsuha, and understood that having Mitsuha meant it was never a good bye with his wife, as Futoba said to him as her last words.
      And therefore, Toshiki MIyamizu finally orders the evacuation.

      @KralizecCL Thank you for that full story. I understand why this was cut from the published feature, it was much too mutch. They had to center on the story of Mitsua and Taki.
      But as an backstory to understand it is important.

    Fun fact, Mitsuha's teacher in the beginning of the film was in fact confirmed to be Yukari Yukino, who is one of the main characters of The Garden of Words; another Makoto Shinkai film. And the male protaganist Takao Akizuki is briefly seen at the end. The cafe that Mitsuha (in Taki's body) goes with his friends to is called the Leaves of Words which is an alternate way to translate Garden of Words.
    If you look carefully at the notes that Taki is studying when Mitsuha first tries to meet him, the words on the note say, "I'm searching for my counterpart." Fitting for that scene, isn't it? ;)

Rather than Sci-Fi, I believe people agree that the author took a lot from Japanese mythology. (especially the reason why the memories AND records were being erased, and why the "I LOVE YOU" stuck to Mitsuha´s hand)

    Damn you guys making me sob 😂😂 i only watched this recently but i loved it. They do so well at capturing that feeling of wheh you're dreaming and it's all so vivid and then 2 minutes after you wake up you forget all of it but you KNOW you've forgotten something. I don't know if you guys had the subtitles on but he wrote "i love you" on her hand..not his name :) the insert song for that whole section is great. The guy did an English and a Japanese version they're lovely.

    There were a lot of symbolism as well like that red ribbon or Mitsuha cutting her hair after meeting young Taki.

  • @gmatgmat
    @gmatgmat 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    When Mitsuha enters her Father's office at the end, the Father addresses her with Omae, which is not how you would talk to your daughter, so I think he thought it was not Mitsuha and so he kinda knew the body swapping was true. I hope that if you watch Kimi no Nawa again, you will watch the Subtitled version. The voice actor for Taki is good and when he is voicing Mitsuha in Taki's body in the crater scene, he uses a low throaty voice that I've seen Japanese actors use to imitate women on TV here in Japan. Also, when he is forgetting Mitsuha's name, there is an anguish in his voice in the sub version where he says. "Who, who, who." that the English voice actor missed. It is the voice of someone who lost something and is on the verge of crying. The English voice actor sounds more defiant. Two different interpretations. The crater scene is my favorite and when I rewatch the movie, I often start from there.
    If you love this move and watch it lots of times, I would be interesting to see your reactions then. Make it a spoiler version. Thank you.

    It's a literal story of the term "Star-crossed lovers" and it was beautiful.
    When I watched this:
    Expectation: Okay this has to be a beautiful story of lovers, not so much tears
    Reality: *was crying at the end* ooh "Your name" brilliant!
    Watch Garden of Words, it's an anime movie.

    You should've watch the sub version, not the dub. Taki didn't write his name in Mitsuha's hand, he wrote "I love you". And a lot of things you have to notice but the dub version didn't give you that, cause everything is wrote in japanese. Try to rewatch it in the sub version, you'll feel the emotions a lot more
