It's a crying shame we didn't get a true sequel to Wave Race 64 on the Nintendo 64. The announcer and the A.I. in Wave Race: Blue Storm was super annoying.
DUDE! I had no idea that Wave Race had a Gameboy title! It's so cool to so just how much of a jump the series made in gameplay and aesthetic when it arrived on N64. I have fond memories of playing Wave Race 64 as a kid/teen. The water physics, in particular, were mind-bending to me. Excellent job highlighting and showcasing what made these games so unique. Thanks for the nostalgic trip! :)
God I really want this series to come back. Hell, even if they make it a Mario Jet Ski game or whatever. I just want intense racing action on beautiful aquatic arenas with realistic water physics. I have a strong preference for that to have a Wave Race coat of paint, but after 20 years I will take what I can get.
One can only hope this little view into the history of Wave Race helps further perpetuate some interest for Nintendo to pick up upon so that maybe one day we'll make the dream of a fourth installment a reality... Maybe. Good job on the video, too.
Awesome video! A little fact about Wave Race 64, there was a Japanese Exclusive version known as the Shindou Edition with Rumble Pak support so Nintendo could sell the peripheral over there.
Hell yeah!! I never knew about the GameBoy Wave Race and god damn that glow up to the 64 might be the biggest in gaming history . Great video, great to see the boy back
He lives again!! Predicted that more than a handful of dormant TH-camrs I took a liking to would make a comeback, and you, sir, were certainly no exception. Great to see you uploading once more, and I look forward to whatever you have planned next.
Awesome video. I was wondering what happened to the series. I loved the music and vibe of Wave Race 64. I wish they would make a new one for the Switch.
Just found your channel via Twitter and your stuff is awesome! Very professional, informative, and entertaining. Keep doing what you do, this is great. :)
Bonus points on using soundtrack from the Waterworld SNES game. A good example of how unexpected sources can have somethin' real good about'em, like a mediocre license game with the music~
Wave race sound track made me want to play the game. Playing the game made me want to get into this sport. And I still do. But i also don't hear a lot about it, which is why I think it won't get the hype. But like trends. If they, or whoever makes a GREAT waverace game, I'm sure will spike it up. Like skating, or anyother sport. But it's also luck at striking that vein too. The thing that people don't think or know what they want but crave it.
I believe the main reason Wave Race was much superior to any other similar game from other studios is because it was made by first party developer (in house, Nintendo EAD) hence the quality in every bit of it. When they release another Wave Race, be it on Switch or some future console, I am pretty sure it will blow us away with quality, just as it always does
Hey man great vid. Have you played Riptide GP or Renegade? It's really fun and gave me that Wave race/SSX feeling I had as a kid. Definitely recommend it.
The shift away from graphical focus is probably the biggest reason for the move away from the franchise. Modern Nintendo first party games favor art style and innovative control over fidelity in their design. I assume that's why we haven't seen an F-Zero either... they can't come up with a way to make it stand out over the predecessors without just looking slightly better. It's kind of disappointing, but with Nintendo slowly embracing remasters and re-releases, maybe that could fill the gap until they can find a way to innovate within the franchise.
Not gonna lie. I was never a fan of Wave Race back then. My cousins like them, but these were just not much cup of tea. But it is neat to see the history of Wave Race. I never knew it had a GB game before.
Hey Man! Firstly, I loved your video, I'm a huge Wave Race fan, I'd love to see a new release. Secondly, would you be interested in guesting on my podcast, I'd love to interview you and hear about your journey with gaming and youtube. Thanks!
I love Waverace 64 and Blue Storm but 64 is better imo. I felt the water in BS was great but too Jello like at some points. I also didnt like the animals they plopped in levels. They ran at really low framerates and didnt look great. I also wish characters wore helmets. They just looked cooler in 64 but over all BS is a great game. I need to go back and play it again
Fun Fact: That first on camera section for me took almost 30 minutes to get right. Memorizing lines is hard.
I was fascinated watching your eyes dart around during that part. It looked natural, though.
Wave race 64 has one of those main themes that sends a tingle down my spine when listening to it
I think about Wave Race all the time. I want more. I need more. It’s been so long…
Couldnt agree more.

Actually just bought waverace gba at a bookstore not knowing the legacy behind it
It's criminally underrated video, despite the fact it's very high quality.
Kudos to you man
Nice to see you again !

Great use of the legendary soundtrack of the Waterworld video game :D
I hoped some people would notice haha
I have a cool remix of that waterworld theme on my channel.

Rumble in Wave Race Blue Storm feels really good so I can see why they'd wanna add it in 64 as well.
Hell yeah!! I never knew about the GameBoy Wave Race and god damn that glow up to the 64 might be the biggest in gaming history . Great video, great to see the boy back
I used to think water in games would not ever look any better than it did in Pikmin and Wave Rave Blue Storm.

Two videos in less than two months no less!! I'm on a roll!
Awesome video. I was wondering what happened to the series. I loved the music and vibe of Wave Race 64. I wish they would make a new one for the Switch.
"Wave Race 64 followed in the WAKE of its predecessor..."
Absolutely supreme writing. Nice video, dude.
I'm SO glad someone picked up on that. I was pretty proud of it haha
YO I loved this. As someone who's never played Wave Race at all, it was fun to learn about its history!
Loved Blue Storm, played it a bunch as a kid 👌
I used to love Wave Race games! Awesome channel, subscribed.
Bro Naveed! Absolutely killing it! Thanks for doing up one of my favorite racing series! Got me feeling like taking out my n64!
Great video! I have never played any of the Wave Race games and now I feel like I've really been missing out!
I loved wave race! I played the 64 version so much as a kid. Great video Naveed!
Man, I love Wave Race 64. Was one of my favorite racing games. Glad to see people talking about it!
Awesome video and retrospective. Love content like this
I dunno why I always forget about this one when I’m such a huge fan of both ExciteBike and PilotWings. Great look at the series history!
Just found your channel via Twitter and your stuff is awesome! Very professional, informative, and entertaining. Keep doing what you do, this is great. :)
Thanks a bunch man! Much appreciated!

Great video, I was really surprised that a gameboy version existed
Found this gem in my watch later list. Should have watched much sooner!

Welcome back , live the videos looking forward to this series .... keep them coming
Whoa! Second video in one year?! The world must be ending soon.
Thanks for bringing light to this franchise. Well done
The first game that came to mind with the Wave Race 64 prototype was Hydro Thunder, which didn’t come out until 1999.
Great video, looking forward to the inevitable 1080 snowboarding video.
Thought you peaced out of the game. Glad to see your still around man.
Well, at least we got an announcement for Wavebreak! If Nintendo can't get a sequel done, we have to rely on the indie devs!
I grew up on wave race 64, so good.
Wave Race 64 is one of my favorite games ever but the GC version just never grabbed me. Never even finished one championship...
why did I like 64 so much more than blue storm? idk. there was just something missing from the gamecube one, not really sure what
I use to play the hell out of this and Jetmoto on the OG PS all the damn time.. I dedicated weeks of my life to them two games lol
Great video

Thanks! I haven't played either of those games but they remind me a lot of Jet Moto with it's more futuristic style! I'll check 'em out!
Wave Race and F-Zero, are the TWO MOST ANTICIPATED future sequels for the Nintendo franchise PERIOD!
You mention different water levels each lap in Bluestorm, but 64 also had that.
I also prefer Blue Storm. The controls are even more nuanced. But 64 will always have a special atmosphere.
Yes , 1080 next would be good . Ricky Winterborn for smash...
I wish I can make amazing videos like you♥
That N64 joystick used to hurt my thumb so much lmao.
I disliked the control in Bluestorm, 64 felt much better. Too bad. I hope they go back to that style (64) if they ever do another one.
I'm creating a cartoon. It's called, Forgotten Tales! It's about these forgotten and obscure characters that go on wacky and crazy adventures.
Man, I even wish they'd include a remix of the Wave Race 64 theme in Smash Bros.

Yes 😅 wave race
I liked Wave race 64 over blue storm, due to (like he said) the arcade feel of blue storm
Hey Man! Firstly, I loved your video, I'm a huge Wave Race fan, I'd love to see a new release. Secondly, would you be interested in guesting on my podcast, I'd love to interview you and hear about your journey with gaming and youtube. Thanks!
Thanks man!
I'm pretty busy these days but I might be able to work out a time eventually!
Wait... you can ride a dolphin!
Vigilante 8 is another forgotten franchise
annnnnnnd WR64 will be on Switch Virtual Console
Please please please 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Hydro Thunder is so good though!
