HE DID IT! HE GOT IMPOSSIBLE BOY! THE LEGEND. My first time hearing about Super Meat Boy was through the completionist. I foolishly picked up a copy on steam Instead of XBLA. Not realizing the extra achievements were there. I am still to this day trying to get a few of those masochistic "complete X chapter without dying" achievements. Coming full circle all these years later to see Jirard do the same is just incredible. GG.
Hoping the extra trophies aren’t required in the PS4 version to get the platinum trophy. I tend to just collect all the main trophies and call it a day.
@@matrixguardian4539 They are, a guy uploaded a video how he got all the achievements and they are here. Well, have fun git gutting salt factury dark, both raptures and of course, cotton alley. This was the first Completionist episode I've watched. Been a subscriber ever since, and now years later, I'm so glad you're still on it! Proud of you! :)
Can anyone tell me why he started completionist game plus? It seems like such a bad idea. Just because there are so many games Why would someone re complete a game?
@@supahgualtah long story short, he made the original episodes with his longtime buddy Greg. They had a very bad falling out after episode 120 and Greg threatened Jirard to sue him if he kept videos featuring him online. Instead of fighting back, Jirard deleted all of those videos and made New Game+ as a chance to re-complete the original 120 games.
What a coincidence. I was just starting my playthrough of Super Meat Boy on the switch, and I realized that Jirard hasn’t done his remake of SMB yet and BAM! I see the very review I was thinking about in my subscription feed. Can’t wait to crack this puppy open and see your new insights on this classic inde game. I got the game earlier this year, and even though I haven't finished it, it's easily one of my favourite side-scrollers. The fact they gave you the most basic moveset ever and still made it as fun as it is is a remarkable achievement of level design.
I had the pleasure of watching The completionist legacy show in Boston last weekend. Jirard, you were incredible. What an outstanding combination of funny and sad and brutally honest moments. It was almost cathartic. I have no idea how you have time on your schedule to pull such a thing together but bravo. If anyone reading this hasn't had the chance to watch the show, you should make it a point to do so.

Watching this makes me realize how long I've been enjoying your videos. Sending lots of love to you and your team of hardworking and talented individuals.
Jirard you absolute mad lad. As a fellow completion lover and fellow super meat boy appreciator I have 34 of 48 achievements. And I will stay there, forever. It is TORTURE to go any further. Absolutely fantastic work you beyond human god gamer.
As a person that got all the steam achievements for this game... It was worth it I still come back to replay the game every once in a while because it's just fun
I’m one of the new folks! I actually enjoy your other videos even more than the e-shop one, but glad the e-shop one brought you on my radar. Keep doing your thing!
I first picked up this game around a decade ago... has it really been that long? This game sparked my love for Edmund's works, the platformer genre, and inspired me to take up the seemingly impossible. My first time around, I could just barely get past the end. I didn't even bother with light cotton alley... it was brutal. I eventually got back into the game last year and decided to try out the impossible achievements. I think your summary explained them very well, hah. However, I would be lying if I said that 100% completing every achievement (especially impossible boy) wasn't the ultimate bragging right. Phenomenal video, brings back many great memories!!
I’ve waited a long time for you to recomplete this masterpiece. This is the game that made me fall in love with indie games. I’ve beaten it numerous times and own every copy out on every platform. It’s my all time favorite game followed by DKC2, Wind Waker and Yoshi’s Island
I’m in awe of you. I love Super Meat Boy, but part of that is not making myself go for those insane achievements. There certainly is no doubt about your title. You are the Completionist, 100%
As a casual fan who has seen your progression in your style while also being a nerd in McMillen games, albeit a niche within a niche in your various vein diagrams.. You hit the nail on the head. The game is amazing, and supports the ideas you illustrated. Mad Love, Jirard (and Alex for suffering alongside him during this journey [insert Saw Video Game Refrence Here])
Any level that I can run through is fine. 2 seconds later, and Im going again. The ones where you need to wait kill me. The dark world one, with the four blades rotating around a box, is the epitome of what I dread in the game.
I'm 42 this year. Merely beating Super Meat Boy was a highlight of my 37 years of gaming. It's an amazing game. Unfortunately, I was extremely sad with SMB Forever.
as someone who had super meat boy on my 360 nearly only a month after it came out, i will not touch the steam version, i had 100 percent the 360 version, it took me a decent while but still was very doable after taking the time! but when it comes to the steam achievements, as someone who hunts for the "platinum" i will not even consider it in my wildest dreams. You are a fucking mad lad that is all i can say
Hey Completionist here that I have the result list in your reviews. A = Complete it B = Finish it C = Play it D = Look at it F = Donate it That’s my results for you Completionist, have a happy Halloween Completionist.
I remember playing this game in middle school and it genuinely making me cry from total frustration. This is one of those xbox360 arcade classics that I put up there with battle block theater and castle crashers.
Just want to say that I've been here since maybe year 2 or so. You have always been a joy to watch and you are incredibly appreciated. Met you at my first Magfest many many years ago and you're as warm and hearty as you are on camera. Love ya man I'll be here.
Ever since I got that platinum for this game I have been waiting for you to complete this game again. I'm glad we're on the same page when it comes to those no death runs. They are absolutely insane lol
Thank you jirard. It’s so obvious you’re one of if not the hardest working person on this platform and each video you produce is crafted with so much love and care, and the hard work pays off. You make so many people happy with these videos, myself included, and I felt the need to make this comment so I’m sure you know, keep it up man we all support you and love what you do.
I had no idea you were going to upload this video after all these years, but I had just redownloaded SMB recently and stopped playing because I was scared of the achievements, I think this is a sign, you've motivated me to try ❤
Hiii, I have been watching for so long and this game is so important for me! Its cool seeing you go for the same challenge I went to and made me be a completionist 5 years ago (I didnt know you already did it before, gg twice!)
Super Meat Boy holds a special place for me as well. I missed the IWBTG trend but I was there for Super Meat Boy and I remembered it being beyond difficult. However, from the sounds of it, it sounds like a 'perceptive' issue on the deathless achievements. TBF, I don't always go for 100% completion of every games, only a few times, but for me I do try to do attempt some of the harder achievements from time to time. Since I played the PC version, I knew about the deathless achievements from the start (I got the XBLA later because I enjoyed the game and wanted to do it again) and to me, the deathless achievements seemed like an honest fit. You have a game with ne consequences for dying, even needing to die to make the glitch levels appear AND that keeps tabs of your deaths. To have a reward for workin out a way through every level on both light and dark world without makin a mistake seemed like it just made sense if you were able to play well enough to achieve it. I myself was only able to get 'Dead Boy' and 'Wood Boy', but the skipping the Deathless didn't keep me from getting Golden God. I think where it was a problem was the fact that it wasn't included across all versions is where it become a chore from what your saying, and in that I do agree with you. If it was an established rule across all version similar to getting all 100 bandages, it wouldn't have been such a slap to the face since your still playing the same game, just on a different platform. The 'how long you spend in a chapter' achievement, thus I agree shouldn't be there. That I feel is a different thing (and one they didn't have before, but last I played was around when The Internet world was first released). Even on a Deathless run, in setting up for it, you have time to go through and work out which you have the biggest problems with and try on those first to see if your going to get it for that chapter. Plus, if you pause and quit to level select just before you die, it doesn't count as a death, so in that you can save your run. However, that's under the original philosophy that you get to plan out your run and think ahead, with that pause and reset trick it gives you more time to prepare AND you can go to options and see if a death added to your death tally. However, with the 'quick in quick out' chieves, not only not giving you an actual time limit to hit just like the stages do, there's no timer anywhere to see how much time you have left. Where there is a counter for everything else (completion %, Bandages, number of deaths) there isn't one for how long you've been on the chapter. I'm truly sorry the deathless soured your opinion of Super Meat Boy, it really is a classic. Also I didn't know there was a different soundtrack added, I bought the original soundtrack when it first came out. That was also a bit of news to me.
Throughout my years of using youtube (roughly, since 2010) I've subscribed and unsubscribed to tens of channels. However, I can safely say that this channel, never left my subscriptions list. I've been following this channel for years and the content has been consistingly great. I hope Jirard continues to grow as a content creator. He deserves it!
I'm still happy with my completion of SMB using only Naija. It's a very good challenge that I recommend for anyone who is a fan of the little nymph. Some of the levels are laughably easy but others become brutal beyond imagining because you have to become so in tune with her unique movement.
As someone who enjoys going after 100% achievements, those deathless chapter achievements are the one thing keeping me from playing this game for myself. I'm grateful that Celeste didn't tie any achievements to its golden strawberries...
This is one of those games where I have a lot of respect for people who complete it. I like getting platinum trophies, but I was happy to just give this game a go and see how far I could go until I moved on to a different game lol
I completed all the levels, dies over 10,000 times, spent over 150 hours finishing it, no way in Hell would I ever get the deathless run trophies, and I was ok with that. Awesome game, one of my favourite games ever, I grew up on a Mega Drive/Genesis in the 90s, my fingers hurt, my hands were calloused, my brain was fried, this game took everything I had to finish every level
My God, SMB completed not one, not twice, but thrice?!? I definitely don’t envy your work, like, damn, I’m actually worried for your health now😮 I would definitely stick to popular middle of the road games difficulty wise in your shoes.
Super Meat Boy is also a special game to me too! If it wasn't for Super Meat Boy, I never would have started creating content myself. My buddy wanted to see me 100% it as well so it was my first streaming experience. Love the series and the re-reviews, thank you good sir for such a great time!
Loved this video and hats off to you for completing arguable the most difficult game out there. I can't help but feel conflicted around your statements about the hardest achievements though. I liken it to having difficulty settings in a game, so all-in-all they're optional. The only reason you did them isn't because the game forced you to, but because you gave yourself the goal of completing games in general, which really isn't SMB's fault. I actually think that the addition of those achievements is a great way to highlight the 1-2% of players who have what it takes to get them. And like you said, the game is fair: Every death is caused by your own mistakes, which makes this the pinnacle of skill. And to tie that into what McMillen said, "Video games are an exercise in learning and growing" and those achievements still provide a monumental learning experience and growth within yourself with how much patience, attention, focus, and speed they require to attain.
I completely agree with Jirard's assessment. Getting the in-game 100% is the perfect amount of challenge and really fun, but going for those no-death achievements is definitely not worth it.
Oh Jesus... I haven't played SMB since beating it on the 360. 10:26 just instantly unlocked forgotten trauma and triggered a thousand yard stare PTSD thing in me, lol
This is also a trip for me. Super Meat Boy was the first The Completionist I saw, admittedly a few months later. And I have been a fan of Jirard and his ever growing and changing team. Can't wait for more.
As a fellow deathless meat boy enjoyer (was one achievement away from platinum on vita, light cotton alley destroyed me), I can agree with insanity of it. But I still feel there's value those achievements, it made me actually master the game
Funny story, in my uni they were doing fire alarm drills for the tower I was living in and some friends and I ended up ignoring the alarms because we were trying to beat a level in Super Meat Boy. Ended up getting told off but was worth it.
Those no death achievements reminds me of the flying strawberries run in Celeste. it just spits in the face of the game's core principle. Like chapter 9 took me at least 3 hours to complete and now, they want you to do all of that without dying.
I see you with that pax east cult of the lamb merch behind you 👀 it was so so SO lovely to chat with you at the con! This episode is now in the bed time rotation, cup of tea in hand. Thanks for all you do Jirard!
I never knew Steam got new achievements over time. And a childhood friend of mine, Millay, was the 106% speedrun world record holder for a long time and man I'm still proud of him to this day
As someone who doesn’t like platformers. The “no death” achievements could mean something. Hear me out. As someone who’s never played this game. This is my theory. Death= absent of life. “No death” achievements could mean “no life” achievements. Meaning that the devs could be poking fun, even slightly, at the players who get the achievements. Meaning they’re saying “you have no life. Get a life.” Maybe not like that exactly. Maybe in a more “you have no life. Same” kind of way if all this makes sense 😂
I'm currently training for my final trophy, Cotton Alley Dark World with no deaths! Also, it doesn't net you nothing, I will forever have my sweet sweet plat lol
Not only was Super Meat Boy was the first completionist video I watched it also happens to be the first series I watched for Super Beard Bros #WeowntheGritch
I still remember playing the game back around when the game came out out steam, beating the ''I wanna be the guy'' levels was one of the toughest at the time. Amazing music and addictive gameplaying. I even have a 120 year old video on the game.
I feel you Jirard, as someone who just when through their own literal 3 year journey of going through the deathless runs, it changes you. I'm glad neither of us have to go for them again, just don't make a New Game Plus 2.
It feels like the Steam version of the game took the idea of Achievements as I originally expected them to be when they were first introduced to gaming. They're not made to be part of the games completion, but as real genuine moments you achieved as a player, that only a few in the world will get
Man, there just isn't enough money and notoriety in this world for me to even attempt doing what you've achieved here. In its own way, I think this is every bit as monumental as your eShop video. Congratulations on keeping your sanity.
For someone who played the game a few months ago, what jirard said near the end is true about what you think of when you hear super meat boy. His completionist rating of “finish it” is also true cause I decided to do that after dying far too many times on trying to unlock the kid. Anyways, enjoyed this video!
Congrats on completing SMB! Crypt of the Necrodancer might be the only game with the more ridiculous skill based achievements that I've played. Over the years, I've come back to Super Meat Boy on occasion to chip away at the no-death achievements. Each time I've gotten a few. Looks like I just have 6 of dark world left + cotten alley... plus The Golden Gift and some hidden achievements (Those seem new since I last played several years ago). Maybe one day.
Alright alright alright. Super Meat Boy is all fine and dandy, and definitely hard enough that I intentionally have chosen not to play it for the sake of my own sanity (and just because I don't like rage games)...but there's another game, a *mainline* game in Nintendo's own library that managed to break my own completionist spirit, and genuinely fills me with a sense of fear and defeat every time I feel a desire to play it. To top it all off, Jirard hasn't touched on it even once. Jirard the Completionist, I challenge you to 100% complete F-Zero GX, for Gamecube. Unlock all gear, beat all story missions and grand prix races on all difficulties, and unlock all characters without using the F-Zero AX arcade tie-in methods. Be warned: It literally cheats, and it doesn't try to hide it.
I'm a completionist in four gaming genres, not all gaming genres. These four genres are action RPG's, Metroid-vanias, collect-a-thons, and open world sandbox games/GTA styled games. The two longest ones are the GTA games and collect-a-thons. My personal hell with Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts speaks for itself.
Say have you ever considered doing an episode on the other super popular game by Edmund? I would absolutely love to see you complete the binding of Isaac with all three DLCs. Repentance is really hard but so rewarding to complete.
Hey, I just want to say that this channel has brought me joy and entertainment through hard times. Thanks Jirard, have an amazing day

He deserves it!
this didn't age well...
Oh my goodness, this is an exciting one! Hey Jirard, been with you for a while but LOVED that Wii U/3DS video too.
The super meat boy episode was my first exposure to not only the completionist but super meat boy as well. Very nice to to see this again.
I don’t have a Twitter but I see you at the WWE Hall of Fame and you got to pound fists with Rey Mysterio at the end!
So proud that the eShop video popped off! More people deserve to know about this channel. Loved the super meatboy upload :D
I completely agree with Jirard's assessment. Getting the in-game 100% is the perfect amount of challenge and really fun, but going for those no-death achievements is definitely not worth it.
Dying that much is good practice for GPW2 😂
Oh Jesus... I haven't played SMB since beating it on the 360. 10:26 just instantly unlocked forgotten trauma and triggered a thousand yard stare PTSD thing in me, lol
Back in the day I didn’t mind grinding those Steam achievements, but there’s no way I would go back to this now 😅
This is also a trip for me.
Dude I've seen newsites like Google and MSN covering the eshop video. Glad people are watching, I loved it.
awesome to see you go for the no death chapter achievements, it gives me motivation to go get the six i have left!
super meat boy forever when? ;)
Was rewatching wrestlemania Sunday, and Jiard is in the crowd when they are going over previous hall of fame inductions. Awesome
Funny story, in my uni they were doing fire alarm drills for the tower I was living in and some friends and I ended up ignoring the alarms because we were trying to beat a level in Super Meat Boy. Ended up getting told off but was worth it.
I've been waiting for this since the original announcement of The Completionist New Game +
Thank you so much!!!
Those no death achievements reminds me of the flying strawberries run in Celeste. it just spits in the face of the game's core principle. Like chapter 9 took me at least 3 hours to complete and now, they want you to do all of that without dying.
That's awesome the creator was the one who challenged you. You are genuinely one of goood guys in this creator space Jirard.
I am literally just coming back to this game. Great timing.
I recently booted it up again aswell on steam deck.
your description of the achievements reminds me of the hard mode in The Binding Of Isaac Eternal Edition. Those were... definitely not the days
It's nuts how we've almost fully bridged the Vally of Lost Content.
What a blast from the past. Jirard out here outdoing himself over and over, let's go!
Shoutout to anyone who knows of Clement’s DRUNK run of this where he took a shot every time he died
I'm currently training for my final trophy, Cotton Alley Dark World with no deaths! Also, it doesn't net you nothing, I will forever have my sweet sweet plat lol
Not only was Super Meat Boy was the first completionist video I watched it also happens to be the first series I watched for Super Beard Bros #WeowntheGritch
back when the beard bros did trivia 🤣
I remember watching you complete this the first time the day you uploaded it, great to still be here & great to see you still keeping up the quality
They're not made to be part of the games completion, but as real genuine moments you achieved as a player, that only a few in the world will get
Jirard. Proud of you dude
You lucky son of a gun being at the Hall of Fame. Rey's speech was amazing. Good for you man!!
Man, there just isn't enough money and notoriety in this world for me to even attempt doing what you've achieved here. In its own way, I think this is every bit as monumental as your eShop video. Congratulations on keeping your sanity.
Do blasphemous next bro! Super hard, but rewarding and the art is dope
The og soundtrack to this game is one of my favorite video game soundtracks of all time.
Im doing 100% completion of Super Meat Boy, no achivements except impossible boy, and as blind as possible :)
I swear, everytime I even blink, Jirard happens to change the intro.
Super Meat Boy is the game that changed me, and I love it for that. it's so memorable for me and it's challenge is quite great.

Flashing lights warning!
Shame this series is coming to an end. Love seeing you revisit old titles with a fresh new take.
THANK YOU JIRARD THANK YOU I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR YEARS
I just got done watching you on the Nontendo podcast and you made that episode, Best one yet and always look forward to your videos.
And here I figured Jirard had sworn to NEVER complete this game again. Once is insanity, but twice? Has to be some sort of record
