watching you carve with your hand in direct line of the blades was too stressful. kept imagining a slip and blood spurting everywhere with each slice. had to stop 2 minutes in.
I also had to stop because of this

Looks difficult
Nice work but it looks extremely dangerous. You did not clamp down your workpiece, you have your second Hand directly in the way, the chisels or knife goes, if you loose control. Not an example of how you should work safely.

1. What did you use to get the negative space around Mary leveled and smooth?
2. Love time lapse videos, but how long would you day this took to complete in real time?
1. Flat chisel with long blade
2. It is difficult to say, this is my hobby, which I can spend for 12 hours a day or do not engage them for several months

Maryam irshad the person is right,but linden is the name of the tree, when you go to buy it just ask for basswood you will definitely find it.
Not easy to get in Ireland. I use poplar.

How often must you sharpen your carving tools?
Personally I sharp them everyday for about 5-10 minutes, its nice carving with sharp tools everyday

Come on,, I’ve never seen any proper carver not fix down his work. You have absolutely NO control otherwise. What you’re doing his is dangerous and very amateurish. Real carving is an Art. I have no disrespect for the subject, but I would expect a more serious approach.
