The idea of robots being built in 1982 is hilarious to me. You kiddn' me? It's 2018 and we've BARELY got experimental robots that can walk on two legs in an extremely controlled environment. The 1980s had an even looser grasp on what technology was capable of than any decade before it and it wasn't until we actually had the technology to start building this crap that we realized, "Wait, shit, this might be more difficult than I thought it would be."
Jesse Lindsey bipedal locomotion is much further along than that now! We are at the point where cheap toy robots walk bipedally easily. The newest Boston dynamics bipedal can run, do front and back flips and walk over lose and constantly shifting terrain
Brandon Kirkwood Very correct, and they even have a 4 legged pack bot that's almost ready for military service to help carry gear where most motorized transport like a Hummer, or Bradly fighting Vehicle for example can't go in order to help lighten the load on ground forces, and carry things like small arms, extra supplies for a long mission, etc..
