  • Just finished building the first Kitaco DOHC 181 in Australia for another monkey rider. Very smooth power with lots of mid-range. I'd say its a little bit more powerful than an out of the box Takegawa 4v. Not quite as powerful as my ported Taky 4v though.....

    Supersport rider for almost 20 years but I have to get one of these !! Just something appealing about them in several ways.

    Do you like it?
    Where can I purchase it?
    What supporting mods are necessary with this DOHC

      It’s incredible. It’s how the bike should’ve been released - perfect power delivery. Very smooth with plenty of midrange. Redlines at 10,500RPM. 6,000RPM onwards is nuts.
      I bought the DOHC kit from Hard Racing. It will require many, many supporting mods in addition to work effectively - ECU management (Dynojet PV3 w/ wideband controller), mapping via Dynojet software, heavy duty starter motor, lithium battery upgrade, full exhaust system (Over Racing is best), clutch cover, clutch springs, clutch plates, 5spd. trans upgrade, all new bearings, manual cam chain tensioner, external oil cooler, oil catch can, much bigger intake (bike is now running 76mm -> 51mm tapered pipe), bigger brakes (pads, rotors, lines etc.), full suspension (front & rear), better tyres (I’ve gone forged rims & softer tyres)!

    Well played m8
    When it's on song it's bonkers, how's it go on cam chain tensioners?did you go a manual tensioner?,I'm not sure what bbk il go first tagawa 2v or 4 ,

      It’s a lot nicer on tensioners than a koso or takegawa 4v. I put in a manual tensioner since I know my takegawa 4v needs it, but was surprised how little the load in the chain was on the dohc

    How would you compare the Kitaco DOHC to the Takegawa 4V? Both very nice builds🤩

    • @mongerrr
      @mongerrr  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I might have to make a seperate comparison video between the different 4v heads.
      The kitaco dohc makes around the same power as an out of the box takegawa 4v. The kitaco design definitely looks more reliable compared to the takegawa and koso, but time will tell.
      My personal takegawa 4v still has a lot more power than the dohc but it’s been changed a lot. Compared to “out of the box”, my taky 4v has a custom cam grind, compression raised from 12.5:1 to 13:1, massive ports, reshaped chamber and a few titanium bits in the valvetrain.
      There’s nothing stopping someone from doing the same things to a kitaco head. The only downside is that for the same price as a kitaco dohc head, you could get a takegawa/koso head and get the works done to it.

    Did you run into any problems installing? Also does the power Vision have a tune for it? I see your using the power vision

      If you’ve ever built a monkey/grom motor before, it’ll be fairly straightforward. It does require splitting the cases and replacing the crank.
      I use the power vision for all my builds. It’s hard to learn but it is a good unit for motors where peak power is below 11,500rpm. I create the maps from scratch for my builds

      @@mongerrr yeah I've done a few cranks and 5pd swaps.
      Awesome because I've been wanting to just go for a dohc just for fun.

    How reliable are these 181 kits ?

    • @mongerrr
      @mongerrr  ปีที่แล้ว

      They can be reliable if you build them properly. If you skip out on supporting parts, it's not gonna work well.

    Thanks for the vid. Didn't even know a DOHC existed for 'lil Monkey! Please tell - what is the top speed of these and the new power figures. Both surprisingly left out of the vid - speedo blank due to sun on speed runs. Thanks, Brian (Sydney)

    • @mongerrr
      @mongerrr  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Power would be in the range of 22-25hp at the wheel. Top speed would be about 140km/h depending on the gearing.
      I wasn’t really doing speed runs for the video. Just some full throttle bursts to data log and get the tune right for him
