Here's my thought on this, regarding X-23 specifically. Is it a spoiler? Nah, but I would have rather not known the character was in the movie. I don't blame you John for covering it, but I'm a little disappointed that we were shown this in a trailer. Especially when it's the FINAL trailer and I don't think the reveal is going to move a noteworthy amount of tickets.

@@DooodOfLife I disagree on 0 tickets being sold. I think John mentioned this on Friday's show, but including X-23 convinces the fans of Logan who were on the fence about Deadpool and Wolverine because they thought it would ruin Logan's ending. Adding X-23 could tip the favor of those people who want to see how Logan plays into this.

I personally dont have a problem with X23 being in the trailer or you covering it. I think the reason why everyone was so upset about it is the movie is literally days away. What was the point of having her in a trailer so late in the marketing? At that point she might as well just be a surprise.

Honestly didn't want to see the latest trailer since the movie was coming out in just over a week at the time. I saw the first trailer and have been avoiding all the other trailers. Most of the time i listen to the audio version on the show while i am at work so I didn't see the thumbnail picture. So it was a spoiler for me when I heard you speak about it on the show. I don't blame you though but maybe a heads up "we will be talking about the new deadpool trailer and some new things it revealed" would be nice. Personally, I think it depends on the movie, what the major reveals/moments of said movie are, and the context behind all of it, including hype and speculation (which can be good or bad depending on how we handle it). Some trailers do a good job of giving us a sense of the overall tone and story of a movie without giving too much away while others don’t.
One of the trailers for Batman v Superman showed Doomsday AND Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman all together ready to fight him, which not only kinda spoiled the villain and their team up, but gave away the 3rd act resolution of the movie. We all went into it KNOWING that Batman and Superman were gonna be at odds and eventually team up with WW to fight Doomsday. I didn’t really like the movie itself all that much. But, I think those reveals would’ve been much more satisfying to experience in the actual movie.
On the other hand, the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer confirmed a lot of the rumors and speculation about villains from Sony Spider-Man movies coming back and being a somewhat Spider-Verse story, but also gave a good sense of the story and tone without revealing Tobey and Andrew coming back (which was the main thing building hype for the movie). We all went in hoping it was true and literally cheered when it actually happened. That was extremely satisfying to experience in the movie.
As far as the D&W Final Trailer, I would’ve preferred seeing X-23 in the movie, especially since the movie is less than a week away. But, I don’t think it’s necessarily a spoiler. Given the type of movie this is, (a multiversal extravaganza with lots of fun cameos, cool moments, and characters popping in and out) and X-23's already established relationship with Wolverine in Logan (in which she played a big part), it's not all that surprising to me that she'd appear in this one. Hell, I think a lot of us would’ve been surprised to not see her in it. I think it would’ve been a spoiler if we saw her in her classic blue and yellow suit and mask from the comics because that’s a more significant reveal for me. But, I don’t think there's even a whole lot of speculation or hype around her being in it.
Now, if Hulk is in the movie and we get a Hulk vs. Wolverine fight, THAT is a huge reveal/moment that we all want to experience in the actual movie and don’t want to be spoiled in a trailer. Because there’s a lot of hype and speculation around it, it’s something huge from the comics we’ve never seen in live-action and a potential major reveal or moment.

A spoiler is any information about what is in a movie that the studio has not publicly released. So I agree that anything in a trailer is fair game to discuss on your show. However, when a viewer asked a question about a rumour of a certain character returning to the MCU and you then confirm (based on 2 of your sources) that the rumour is true and also divulge which movie that character will be in then that is a spoiler. It’s not news and it hasn’t been confirmed by the studio or trades. It’s your show so you are at liberty to talk about anything you want but at the very least should there not have been a spoiler warning for your viewers?

  • @isaacbeeby2528

I 1000% agree that Dafne Keen's X-23 should NOT have been included in that final trailer because I honestly do think that the Logan/Wolverine in general fan crowd would have shown up regardless, PURELY for Hugh Jackman alone, and even more so now that he is wearing the comic accurate outfit, hence why they showed that off over a year ago. I think that is why ALOT of people are showing up to this movie. Look, Deadpool 3 was going to do just as well, if not slightly better than Deadpool 1 and 2 (now that he is in the MCU), regardless of if Hugh Jackman was in it or not, but adding him in automatically brings in the Wolverine/OG X-Men crowd. X-23 in the trailer specifically WAS NOT NEEDED! We all speculated and assumed she WOULD be in the movie, but the reveal IN THE THEATRE would have been way better.

Sony and Garfield played it smart. Drop some leaks, but doesn't confirm. Builds speculations. This goes for months.

A spoiler, to me, is anything that gives away a portion of a film or can be used to make an inference of a plot point of the movie. The example I use is the Ant Man 3 trailer in which Scott tells Kang that they both have to lose. This easily implies that Scott’s plan is to stay in the quantum realm. X-23 being in the film, to me, gives away a potential plot point of the film such as the Ant man trailer

Personally I don't consider an spoiler the fact that they showed Laura on the trailer because it was one shot of her saying, what we all can agree on, a cool line. But we didn't know why she's there or the implications of her role in the movie, but at the same same time we also expected that having Laura back meant some cool fights scenes and and service (like putting her sunglasses on). I don't think it affects the movie going experience of most people BUT it would've been a really nice surprise that Disney could've kept for the premiere

That said, my gf was coming with me to watch the movie but she wasn't excited about it. Until she saw Dafne Keen. @@johncampeaJohn, you mentioned that things in trailers cannot be spoilers because they’re in the trailer. So if in a trailer to The Sixth Sense they made it explicitly clear that Bruce Willis’ character is dead and has been dead the entire time, would it not be considered a spoiler because “it’s in the trailer” despite the knowledge “it fundamentally changes [your] entire viewing of that film”?
If, before you got a chance to see the movie, a random person had told you that he’s dead, is that a spoiler, but if the trailer said the exact same thing is it not a spoiler?

I would say that if something is in a trailer BEFORE the world premiere (Monday), fair game and not a spoiler. However I would say that if it is in a spot released AFTER the movie has been seen by audiences, it can be considered a spoiler. So for example, when the first Ant-Man was released I was at Disneyland for vacation, iirc it was released on Disneyland's 60th anniversary so I wasn't going to see the movie on opening day, but I was instead in the parks but I did go to see the short preview they were playing in the Bug's Life theater at the time. Well then a couple days later the rest of my group was going to Universal for the day while I was taking a rest day. I had the TV on and saw a spot for the movie that showed Falcon's cameo, and up until that spot, I hadn't seen any marketing teasing his involvement and I was annoyed that I saw that in a TV spot rather than when I saw the movie and it actually drove me to go over to Downtown Disney and watch the movie that day so that nothing else could be spoiled for me.
As to the Pyro vs X23 discussion, I would guess the difference is that Pyro is a character most of the audience won't care about, while a lot of people will be very excited about X23.
On the second question, I would say that if you REALLY care about not getting a movie spoiled, then you really need to mute any and all phrases you can think of that would be connected to the movie until you have gotten to see it so that you can avoid seeing it. But also don't get mad at the people next to you that watched the trailers and know the names of new characters for mentioning who they're most excited about. I legit had somebody complain to me at my first screening of Force Awakens because they hadn't seen ANY of the marketing for the movie and I was telling my friend that I thought BB8 looked like an adorable new droid.

I completely disagree that Avengers Infinity War and Endgame are two separate standalone movies. Avengers 1 and Age of Ultron are separate standalone movies because they have completely separate villains (Loki and Ultron) and storylines (aside from the massive overall storyline of the entire MCU as a whole). Avengers Infinity War and Endgame have the exact same villain being Thanos and Endgame literally picks up EXACTLY where Infinity War left off. Sure, the movie itself opens with Hawkeye and his family rather than the characters we saw at the end of Infinity War, but the opening 2 minute scene ends with Clint's entire family being dusted, which is exactly what happened at the end of Infinity War and the entirety of Endgame is about undoing what Thanos did. You could watch Avengers Age of Ultron without having watched Avengers 1 and be completely fine and know what is going on, whereas you would have a very hard time following what is happening in Endgame if you didn't see Infinity War, making them essentially a part 1 and part 2 without being called part 1 and part 2. Hell, Infinity War LITTERALLY was announced as being a part 1 and part 2 in 2014 by Feige on stage in the El Capitan theatre.

@@johncampea Yeah I don't care what they say. They can say that all they want, but it's obvious that they are wrong and clearly don't understand their own movies that they made if that's the case. Anyone with a functioning brain can clearly see that Infinity War and Endgame are interconnected are the same story split across two films. Everything from Professor Hulk storyline to Tony, Pepper and Morgan's storyline, to Captain America's storyline and way more. They all carry over from one film to the next. It is so damn obvious. So yeah, The Russos can be in denial all they want, it doesn't change the facts. If both movies were completely separate, they wouldn't have been shot back to back and released one year apart from eachother instead of the 3 years between Avengers 1 and Ultron and Ultron and Infinity War.

I do not think you should use an appearance from a trailer in the headline of one of your podcasts. I tend to avoid discussions of the trailers just in case I decided not to watch it. I do not like I was being spoiled about x-23 appearance in the Deadpool & wolverine.

It’s not rumor, or theory, or leak… it is NEWS. Public news. If you want to avoid the news, then the responsibility is on YOU to avoid it. You can’t go surfing around TH-cam and expect to be sheltered from NEWS. If you don’t want to know public, global, common knowledge news, then it’s not anyone’s job to shield you from it. @johncampea  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

You raise a very good point. But let me challenge it by saying this. A trailer is not the same as an episode of a TV show. A trailer is not the art, it’s an advertisement for the art. A trailer is an announcement of the art, not the art itself. A trailer is 2 minutes, an episode is (or can be) an hour long. When an episode drops (sometimes at midnight) most people don’t have a chance to see it by the morning… because it isn’t 2 minutes, it’s an hour… so I like to give people a day to see it. But again, a trailer is different. It’s a announcement. A piece of marketing. A thing used to promote the art, not the art itself, and thus it doesn’t need to be hidden on its own.

Instead of coming off as “oh well” to your fans, it’s just as easy to have that care for those that don’t want to have things spoiled in anyway. You also have to remember that not everyone has seen everything. When the 24 movie news came out, I put a friend on and said he needs to watch. He has been on season 1. He also watches your show.
