hi, i'm graduating high school in 8 days now, so right now going through that stressful period of trying to plan for what is a massive transition in my life. I'm in Australia so universities are abit different here. But vlogs like this even if they do have that specific purpose of romanticism and displaying aesthetics, are strangely comforting? Getting a glimpse into another human being's experience with what is supposed to be a grand adventure, well it's definitely all exciting. I hope university is awesome, I hope moving out and gaining independence keeps me busy. I hope university can prepare me for a great adventure. I hope it is just that.
Aha! wait until you get to the eight day mark, then you will be truly ready to leave... gosh I am tired of high school. I'm sure you will enjoy your time in hs though, and when you do get to graduate you will feel ready for the next step! I was accepted into my dream university of four years yesterday, and now I have changed my mind and want to go to a different one, funny how life seems to play out.
Not in a bad way! Just like aesthetically, architecturally our unis are more post-modern in design, especially if they are new, or like a castle if you go to university of sydney!
@@havii0Hello, I am also an Aussie! So, university in Australia is not at all what you think of when you look at American colleges, it is just fundamentally different. We follow the United Kingdom in their higher education paradigm, so rather than the American-style liberal arts education (like you get at Columbia) where you can take any classes over 4 years to get a breadth of knowledge, our universities focus on producing specialized professionals. What does that mean? You apply to a single degree at a single university, rather than applying to a college whereupon you can study anything you like. Pros of this are, you get to become a professional much faster, get a lot more independence, and are overall more responsible for yourself. However, I would argue that the downsides of our system are numerous (1) we don't really have any 'university culture' (frankly, nobody cares if or where you went to university here), (2) you lack the broad knowledge that I believe is essential to be - and this is bound to be controversial - 'truly intelligent', and (3) you are pretty much locked into a career at 17/18 and it will be a big effort to change paths if you decide its not for you at 22. But hey, I am still applying for Uni here, so please don't take what I say as a reason not to come. Higher education system aside, I thoroughly believe that all things considered, Australia is the greatest country on Earth, and you will love life here.
this kind of video makes me so anxious but in a good way bc im going to columbia in july to compete in a math olympiad and columbia is my number 1 choice for college😭😭😭. I hope i win the competition AND get into Columbia in 2025
