    Anything Stihl is a good choice. I never had a Husqevarna, though I heard things about them. But I can't comment on them. I have several Stihl products, chain saw, trimmer, pole saw, pressure washer, leaf blower......All have treated me well.

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. I switched to a Stihl trimmer years ago after having such good reliability with the MS290 chainsaw. What a great move. I previously had always been messing with the trimmers to get them to work (box store cheap units). Now my chainsaws, my trimmer, and two blowers are Stihl brand and I am so glad I made the investment in a brand that works reliably!

    Sometimes the prices on Amazon are just sooooo tempting...even when we KNOW we shouldn't, that "order now" but just pulls at you like a magnet!!! I'd say you definitely made the right choice!
    (BTW, my lingering symptoms are pretty much gone...hope you can say the same. 👍😎)

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! It was tempting -but I'm glad I didn't let the order process.
      I still have some lingering symptoms. Coughing fits a few times a day, a headache, and lack of energy if I'm doing something taxing. But overall, I'm significantly improved.

    You did the best thing you could do for your situation. It's good you had a saw that you could upgrade the bar and chain with enough power to do the job. I have a lot of trees that are huge that got blown down in a heavy windstorm and will be needing a saw with a long bar to do the job. I have found a saw for $250 on Amazon with a 24 and a 20-inch bar and chain set. It has 68cc and 4.5 HP. If I had a saw that could handle a long enough bar, I would go the route you did. Seeing this may be the only time I need to use a saw this large it makes no sense to spend two or three times or more for a much better name brand. I do have 3 Echo chain saws but none that really have the power to really handle any more than a 20-inch bar. But the one large tree I have to deal with will most likely need that 24-inch bar. Very nice video.

      Thanks for watching! I leave that 20" bar on the Stihl MS290 most of the time now. In fact, I think I've only put the 16" bar back on once.

    FYI there is a 99% Chance that is the "58cc" (54.5 actual CCs) saw and not 62ccs. They used to be easy to catch because the cylinder would say 5800 on it. Now they have nothing on the newer ones. There are 62cc saws out there. But they are very hard to find. I ordered a "62cc" recently. Before I even got it i sent a message to the seller telling them i really hope it's not like the last one and not 62ccs. They IMMEDIATELY gave me a $10 credit and begged me to keep it. I did because i bought it to learn how to port saws and and as a gift for a friend once i finish hopping it up. It's already better than my old one i bought. The muffler is empty and has larger output holes. The old one has smaller holes and a 3 hole baffle. They are actually really good saws if you take care of it and use a quality 2 stroke oil.

    Great job, I love my MS-271. It came with a 20'' bar, but I put a 16" on it, and it screams now. It's the one I grab the most, if the job is bigger than what my 20v DeWalt can handle.

    Next time I'm wearing my hip waders..... All that to say, I had to buy a longer bar...(and Chain!!!)... to tackle this massive oak.
    Seriously, Glad you worked it out.
    I have one saw I have upgraded the bar on. My Salem Master 6220H 62cc now runs a 22" Bar.
    I love me junk pile recovered Husqvarna 445 and have all the confidence in the world that it will start up and do what I ask of it. I also realize it is not only very old, but very well used and I respect that so I have decided to keep it in its peak performance recommendations.
    *I also have several other, lets say "interesting", manufactures saws in the 40cc-68cc range.
    All of these Saws (10) together, including the 445 X-Torq cost less than one good Professional Stihl/Husq./etc. and each has a specific type of use.
    Your saws look to be in fantastic condition. Keep taking care of them and they will keep taking care of you.
    Happy Cutting!

    My dad and I have had McCulloch and Homelite brands, very good chainsaws, but Stihl is one of the top of the line chainsaw manufacturers in the world. Echo is the other. But you'll see Stihl in the hands of professional loggers, 3 foot bars! I would say you've got the best chainsaws on the market! 👍 Very useful information, thanks for sharing, Chad! 😎🪵

      We have been very happy with our Stihl chainsaws. Before these two saws, we had a Poulan and a Craftsman saw. Both were useful for a hand full of years. But neither compare to the reliability of our Stihl saws. Thanks for watching!

    • @toddvangessel5699
      @toddvangessel5699 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stihl, Husqvarn, and Makita-Dolemar are the best brands hands down. Echo is definitely behind those three by a bit in the engineering department but they are definitely useful and not junk.

    • @garrytalley8009
      @garrytalley8009 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      FYI Echoes are used by a lot of professionals. You are entitled to your opinion, but it doesn't make you right. They are reliable and easier to start than most chain saws. They certainly have one of th e best warranties even though you most likely won't need to use it.

    My neighbor across the road bought the Coocher 6200 online one night when he was drunk. That's what he does when he gets home from second shift, drinks and buy stuff online.... LOL Well, anyways, he never ended up taking it out of the box and putting it together. Another drunk night, he bought a different one that he thought might be better. He ended up giving me the Coocher. I put it together and tried it out and it seemed to work okay, but I constantly have to retighten the chain after about 15 minutes or so of use. Is this a common thing to have to do to a chainsaw? One thing I like about it is the string pull assist. It's been pretty easy to start.

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for sharing your experience with the Coocheer saw from your neighbor. :)
      As far as with my Stihl chainsaws, I typically don't need to tighten the chain very often. They to loosen up (stretch out) slightly when they're brand new and you're using the chain for the first time. But after that - mine typically stay pretty good.

    • @brianseeney1364
      @brianseeney1364 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PurpleCollarLife I'm just wondering if the chain is actually stretching out or if it's the tensioner that is backing off. I'm going to have to do something to try to figure this problem out.

    Get you an 880, for them big trees. It will handle a 4 ft bar. Upwards of $ 2000.00. You will love lugging it around. $109.00 for a Chinesium saw? If it lasts a month, paid for itself. Most bars and chains, are close to that.

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello - I believe the bar size for the MS290 was listed as 16-inch up to 20-inch. 24-inch would be too much bar/chain for a stock MS290 probably.

    • @wthomas5697
      @wthomas5697 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, okay, thanks. I saw the chart on your video after posting this comment.
      When I look at the spacing of the teeth on those longer chains it seems they're just farther apart, not more numerous. So the only issue would appear to be more friction on the bar. Maybe an additional ounce or two weight-wise. I wonder how it would work. Maybe I'll give it a try anyway. An extra four inches would be useful trying to get through the large oak trees I'm dealing with.
