Ukrainian drones ‘hit Russia fuel and energy facilities’

- Fires broke out overnight at fuel and energy facilities in Russia’s Smolensk district after a Ukraine-launched drone attack.
“Our region is again under attack by Ukrainian UAVs,” said Vasily Anokhin, the governor of the Smolensk region in Russia’s west, on the Telegram messaging app.
In a separate incident, people were evacuated from parts of Lipetsk, in southwest Russia, after a drone landed on an industrial park there.
Igor Artamonov, the governor of the region, said that there were no injuries, but nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution measure.

The main targets are the modern refinery equipment Russia installed in a limited amount of refineries after the fall of the Soviet Union to meet European fuel standards for today’s vehicle engines; including Russian military vehicle engines using Western made engine parts. Before the fall, cars were few and only for the elite driving non-Russian cars or poorly made Russian cars that smoked a lot using poorly refined Russian fuel. The Ukrainians don’t need to destroy all of Putin’s refineries, only the updated ones to affect the fuel distribution system and cause engines to start failing using poor quality fuel.

What's funny is that they probably won't get the refineries up and running again as they are dependent on parts and competence from "the big bad west" to do it. But hey, maybe North Korea can help? 😂

Moscow adheres to the idea voiced by Russian President Vladimir Putin of creating a "buffer zone" in Ukraine to protect against long-range weapons, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at a news briefing.
"With respect to this, nothing has changed," he said, replying to a question on the matter.
The Kremlin official added that the issue of fighting against long-range weapons being supplied to Ukraine and potential strikes on the areas where they are concentrated "is rather under the purview of the armed forces." "We are not qualified to say anything with respect to this," Peskov noted.
Earlier, CNN reported, citing sources in the US Congress, that the new US aid package to Ukraine includes ATACMS missiles with a range of 290 km. Earlier, Washington, wary of getting involved in a direct conflict with Moscow, restricted the range of missiles sent to Kiev to 160 km so that they cannot be used to hit Russian soil.
