    Whoah, Dr. Gill, there was clear malpractice here! The patient confirmed their name in the beginning, but it was clearly not the patient you were meant to examine, as we can see at around 2:10, the patient that was meant to receive the treatment was Mr. Mouse Mickey! Hope there are no legal consequences for you or anything!

    My 7yo daughter is scheduled to take an ECG test soon and she wanted to know how it works and what she should expect. I already experienced taking an ECG test before so I tried describing it to her the best I could but she started crying, afraid that it might hurt. I think I poorly chose my words maybe because my experience wasn't very pleasant (I thought that's how ECG normally works). After I saw this video and showed it to her, she then became smug and said "I can do that!" I'm happy there's a simple video like this to show her. It sounds like she'll be okay and she's also confident now on top of not crying anymore. I hope we won't have a problem doing it soon. Thank you for showing this to us.

    May I wonder if obesity can affect an electrocardiogram result? In terms of a false result.

    • @DrJamesGill
      @DrJamesGill  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      There are several things that can happen in obesity. Due to the leads being further away as one point, but also that the body is slightly different, for example the diaphragm can be pushed up affecting the trace
      Obesity can also diminish the wave form, so ventricular hypertrophy changes are less clear as an example

    Would you not briefly explain to the patient what the examination is going to involve before you start? I see you explain each step, but if the patient has had a lot of tests recently, they could be confused as to which test is being performed when, why, how long it will take etc. I assume you have to do this in real life to a real patient- do students have to demonstrate that when they are examined?

    Hello there. Can an ECG detect angina?

  • @InfiniteClouds
    @InfiniteClouds 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I had this done a few weeks ago in an ER but the tech did a different placement of the pads. I also had none on the ankles and instead of the wrists they were on the upper arm. Are my test results still good?

    • @DrJamesGill
      @DrJamesGill  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They may have been using a different device.
      You can also use the hips rather than the ankles

    question what I'd the colour coding on the limb leads signify. and what orientation should they be placed? what is the reason they are placed in that order?

    What happens if it comes back all normal but you feel chest pain still or like lack
    Of oxygen and faint and all the other symptoms as I got mine next week I have no doubt it’ll come back normal but I don’t feel normal if that makes sense will they keep checking

    Showing that much patient info, definitely a HIPAA violation over here in the US. Wouldn't want that particular set of lawyers after me 🤣
    Very interesting we usually call it an EKG here in the states despite ECG being the English terminology!

    Thanks for the video! How much of a difference does it make where you put the limb leads? Have done it multiple ways.

    • @DrJamesGill
      @DrJamesGill  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      it varies, the closer to the body, or the greater the movement, the greater the errors/artifacts

    Nice video but it has made me curious. I am having gastric bypass surgery in 3 weeks and I went in for my pre assessment 2 days ago and a part of the work up was an ECG but they only put leads/sensors on my chest...is there a reason they didn't use them on my arms and legs?

    • @DrJamesGill
      @DrJamesGill  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I honestly don’t know the answer to that. The limb leads are needed to calculate the other 6 parts of the 12 lead ecg

    Excellent material as always. I wonder how this treatment would be performed differently when on a woman. I imagine you need the receptors to touch the naked skin, and therefore the woman would have to expose her breasts. Is this yet another case of the need for clear communication before and during the ECG or is there a workaround?

    When were leads to the limbs introduced? I had this test some years back, I don't recall quite so many wires.
    Also, how good are the "single lead" devices that have been rolled out more recently?

    • @DrJamesGill
      @DrJamesGill  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Single lead devices are limited to rhythm advice only. I use one in clinic to check for AF.

    Hello Dr Gill, I just done ecg today but the result is in borderline, i'm so worried, is there any possibility that the ecg can get error reading? I was a bit tired because i was walking like 2 blocks before i got in the hospital and the time they start ecg i was moving my hand and talking.

    Having worked in an ER for 10 years & having performed 1000s of EKGs, I find it very awkward to watch someone work from the right-hand side. Not a big problem with a nice-sized guy, but almost impossible with a large female.

    • @DrJamesGill
      @DrJamesGill  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s interesting, for clinical examinations we are taught to examine from the right, and did this by default.
