GoPro Edit of our 2018 ski trip to Stubai (Stubaier Gletscher) and Schlick 2000.
Filmed with GoPro Hero 5 Black Camera and Karma Grip stabiliser.
Filmed mostly using 4K 30fps. Body mounted shots filmed in 2.7k 60fps with image stabilisation enabled.
Edited in Final Cut Pro X.

maybe the best edited skiing vid i've seen outside of the bought and paid for stuff from Red bull etc. love seeing regular skiiers doing fun regular skiing stuff. watching the insane big mountain skiers is cool but videos like this can remind us of why we average skiiers love the sport!

Ich selbst trainiere in Stubai und durch dein Video konnte ich erst die schöne Vielfältigkeit in Stubai sehen. Du zeigst tolle Strecken, bei denen ich zuvor noch nie war, wegen dem Stangentraining. Deswegen war Stubai lange Zeit für mich ein etwas ödes Skigebiet. Danke dass du mir gezeigt hast, was man aus Stubai alles rausholen kann!

OMG. It’s 4K/30fps in the Hero 5 ? What a clear video...very good work.
Also I think I will choose the hero 7 black because its only 100€ much than the hero 5 in France, with stabilisation « hypersmooth » included. No Karma Grip needed.

KevinKlein92 Hey Kevin 👋🏼 it’s amazing the results you can get out of cameras that many people will have you believe are old and no good anymore. Check out some of the videos on YT comparing hypersmooth to karma grip. It’s not the ultimate stabilisation but I’m sure it’s more that enough when you consider you won’t need a bulky gimbal with you all the time, much more practical 🙌🏼 let me know how you get on, I’d be interested to see how it performs

send it its a glacier. Top of a veru high mountain. I went skiing on The summer brake
send it yeah its pretty snow safe there... this was in feb I think so peal season but normally very good skiing there November-march and resort open even longer that that

what are your settings for gopro? (color profile, ev, wb, sharpness etc.)
Did you use any LUT?
Hi Lukasz 👋🏼 GoPro was fully auto, no ProTune. I didn’t use any LUTs on this one. Just my own manual colour grade using the exposure levels and saturation tools in Final Cut 👍🏼

Well done. Have skied The Stubai valley few times and love the area (from Canada) and have been trying to determine if should go with a karma stick expense to go with my hero 5 or jump up to hero 7 that claims to be as good with digital stabilization. Have you had experience with hero 7 per chance. Anyways nice job on video as we await the snow here in Quebec.
I would suggest the hero 7, as u don't only get a supergood stabilization, but also 4k 60 and 1080p 240... aswell as better voice control and all those other things... sell the 5 and get the 7 I'd say :)
Lou Goulet I’d go with the Karma Grip and a GoPro Hero 2018 because a gimbal will almost guarantee better quality than a digitally stabilized video. Additionally you can do the neat little hack to your hero 2018 to make it a hero 5 and save yourself a hundred bucks. Although since you already have the hero 5, go for just the Karma grip.
I'm with Hjortsater on this one... Having not had the chance to shoot on the Hero 7 I can't say for sure, but I don't think there is any way the EIS (electronic image stabilisation) in the hero 7 can beat the gimbal if you compare the quality of the stabilisation on its own. However, things to factor in are the lack of waterproofing with the gimbal, and shooting with the side door off etc makes it a bit of a pain to make waterproof again. If you want the easiest route toward stabilisation in ALL scenarios, the hero 7 will be the way to go. For the absolute best stabilisation (in the right conditions) you need a gimbal. As you can hopefully see from the video, the quality of the hero 5 and Karma is very very good, especially for snowsport videos!
You’re right Nathan O'Looney Media with the Hero 7 being better all around for most purposes, but in this case, as you said, the Karma grip will stabilize it better :)
Hey, would it be possible to tell me how you do the transitions at the start please where it looks like it comes out of one thing into the next? Do you do this when editing or do you have to film in a certain way? Great video! Thanks
He is editing, this is calles fade in and fade out. In this clip, there are a lot of fade ins and outs, fade in- the video you see, and progressively you see it, and fade out is when a clip starts go go away and only a black screen is there at the end ( sorry for my bad english )
You don't film in a certain way, just editing
Zoom in - zoom out fx :P
Hi Lucy, I use a mixture of filming and editing techniques. The ones at the start were pretty much standard filmed clips that I edited in FCPX to have the zoom transition. The pan up from the skis one was actually a couple of clips I filmed where I panned the camera quickly and just cut from one to the other in the motion blur 👍🏼 imo the second works much better, more natural camera motions. Hope that helps you!

Which Bitrate did you used?
Jan Schmitt can’t remember exactly tbh, normally high as possible because TH-cam compression crushes the quality a fair bit
i am going there in January, can you recommend me what type of skis to take, I have race skis for piste and freeride ( are there many options to ride in powder (outside of the pistes and is it allow to go). Thank you
Dr. Remy Both powder and hard pack exit on the glacier. I would recommend you Bring your favorite ski setup and then if the conditions demand you can always rent for a day or two to match. Careful off piste which can do but be aware of potential hazards i.e. Crevices etc.

1:22, 1:41-1:47, 1:59, 2:20 are all Freeride clips. We just hire when we are there and they can advise on which skis to use based on what type of skiing you want to do 👌🏼

If you mean the GoPro: Yes, it can, I think up to 1440p60

You might want to cut down on the amount of transitions you use .many of the fade in and fade out transitions don’t work if you over use them. Otherwise it was pretty good
