This looks like just what I’ve been looking for! I didn’t know this existed. Two hardware units in one. Saves on space and you know the quality is there. Good find. Thanks!
John Mike I appreciate how you get straight to the point in your videos. And I wish I could drop those little chords that you just do like it's nothing - years of experience I guess! Thank you for all the good info, month after month.
John, could you please recommend a 61-key controller that has the least clickety-clack keys? I prefer totally minimal with no controls. Just great keys that don't drive my wife crazy in the next room! Thanks for all your great reviews.
Thank you for your review of this device. I'm coming from experience with the old analog systems (because I'm old)... but I've been inclined to try to figure out this digital medium of recording. I have a Zoom R16 for instrument interface and Cubase for my DAW. Do you think this device can be integrated well into that setup? I don't mean to bleed you for information..... but I'm still learning this type of recording. It's.....complex. Whether you're able to answer or not....thank you again for the video.
WELP!!! John Mike I also have big hands BUT I can still use the APC keys to trigger my loops elements and Perculiar sounds from GP…. Long time supporter.
I've never used this brand or a keyboard this small. Oh wait. Yeah, sometime back in the 1970s, even smaller...one of those little Casio music makers. I made quite a few fun/funny kiddy songs for my preschool son and his cousins, at that time recorded via mic to cassette, sent as gifts. The kids loved them. They even learned to sing a long. lol Anyhow, this Akai looks convenient for traveling. Thx for your input.
thank you John for the review, I'm looking for the right controller and I can't decide yet wich one, but this one looks nice. It would be great to be selected for the giveaway but sadly I'm too far away, so congrats to the future lucky winner : )
That's a nice controller, i used to question its existence when the mk1 was around, their new version convinced me otherwise. The rgb buttons was levels better
Hi John Mike, Thank you so much for all your videos, reviews, help, and support!! I have a couple of questions, is it possible to use the Yamaha np12 or Alesis Recital 61 as MIDI controllers for DAWs? If yes, do you know if they have a better keybed then the M-Audio Oxygen Pro 61? Also if its possible to use them as MIDI controllers, why in your opinion they are not popular as MIDI controllers and there are no videos on youtube explaining that. Again Thank you for your kind help.
I dont use Ableton and dont plan to, but can this device be used as a midi controler with other daws? I would use the pads to do some basic drum track midi programing, because I hate drawing the drums with a mouse. Also the 2 octave keyboard is a big plus which would come in handy.
It's definitely for folks who prefer combo units over specialized ones, and the encoders default mapped to Live's device control is a welcome feature for those who use it a lot. I would almost recommend pairing this with the LPD8 mk2 if it wasn't for the fact that Akai got rid of the Bank A/B on that device for reasons. And that would be a question I wouldn't mind to have answered as the new LPD8 is great, otherwise.
Apc40 mk ii has 8 x 5 too so nothing changes on that front. Although akai force is something else indeed. I am on the fence about the force workflow. I dont want to spend £1000 on force only to find the push2 and akai force don’t coexist nicely together. Nobody has done a video on both push2 and akai force integration.
The question I would have is are they endless encoders? And more importantly, does it work with Logic Live Loops that is the only reason I was thinking of getting a mini launchpad is to use it with Logic live loops and even better GarageBand live loops from Ipad on the go. Also, I love how they labeled the soft keys lol like, I dunno I just find it funny. Doesn't the MPK say pad controls instead? I guess they thought that would cause confusion on this device.
My only question about this device is, if im in session view and have all my scenes and clips laid out and want to record the particular scene, will it play/record only the highlighted clips in the scene or the whole scene (including the non-highlighted clips)
I just wish I could find something like a launchpad but with KNOBS the APC mini is so close but I don't know if I can get used to just using faders for fx.
I use the APC Key25 to record guitar, bass & synth clips but having to start and stop guitar clips using my hands is limiting. Looking for a way to trigger using a footswitch if anyone knows how!...
I have no Foreign Currency to buy such thing... it will take ( i dont know when i can find some dollars ) .... and 99$ is also a Big Price for me ...anyways...Thanks for the Motivation...
Mine doesn't even work right out of the box. I know it's really new but none of the scene soft keys work for me except as instrument controllers. They don't interact with the scenes or clips AT ALL. I have Ableton 11, this should just work, but it doesn't. Until they fix whatever the issue is, I've wasted $100.

Looking at buying a board. Never used one before but I've played drums and done percussion for almost 20 years. Excited to get started.
The grid feels good to me, but I'd like this with 37 full size keys and some faders to make it pretty.
John Mike I appreciate how you get straight to the point in your videos. And I wish I could drop those little chords that you just do like it's nothing - years of experience I guess!

Thank you for your honest reviews Mike. It helps to make decision on how to invest our hard earned money easy.
Great little unit!
Can it work with Loopy or Garage Band? Or just with Ableton?
Thanks for the vids!! 🤘🏽💫🤙🏽
Should work with all

very insightful reviews. Keep htem coming!
Thanks for keeping us updated.
You forgot to add the end page for the next video
Bro 😎 I’m new to ableton live & just started playing for a new church and in need of a drummer 🤦🏾♂️ so I’m definitely thinking about getting this 😃
Just get EZ Drummer it will drum for you, easily.
@@Byronic19134 in a live service ?
I've never used a touch pad keyboard and that seems like a good way to get started. Thanks for all your videos.
What do you mean like a Launchpad?

I finally got an akai mpk mini plus. It’s pretty good for small desk footprint.
Loving the channel bro. Thnx for the update
Thanks for the review! Just what I was looking for
Thanks for the giveaway! I hope you reach 100k soon!
Great insight. Thanks. I am not new to music but I am new abelton and software production. Would this be a no go for a beginner or biginner friendly?
Does this work in Bitwig Studio like it does in Ableton?
There's a default script, and probably custom ones.
Great review John! :)

Thanks. Looks like the perfect portable key controller for my fav Daw.
This will work better with controlling some parameters on your DAW. Looks good.
Cute little controller☺️, perfect for travelling👌🏽
Hello! I love this channel!
I would use it for triggering loops and telling the song in arragement mode on the keys where to go too

Akai should make a Mini plus size unit with full width size keys.
Foe the algorithm! Keep up the good work!
Are you planning on trying the new Novation FL Keys 49? I'm unsure whether to get that one vs Arturia vs Native Instruments A series
I haven’t but I plan to soon…if you use FL it’s gonna be a good buy tho

Quick question... If I go play live at some event or to freinds as example... I must map knobs eveyrtime again or it stay saved in project?
i have this keyboard and i produce on fl studio. i have no idea how to set it up or use any of the drum pads
What is better m-audio Oxygen or Axiom?
My only question about this device is, if im in session view and have all my scenes and clips laid out and want to record the particular scene, will it play/record only the highlighted clips in the scene or the whole scene (including the non-highlighted clips)
Hi! This works with OSX Ventura in M1?
Thanks for you answer
Should

Do you think mini Grand is up there with Native Instruments pianos
It's ok...I haven't played it in years...but I don't remember being impressed with it enough to use it on anything

I'm interested in whether you can stop a single clip from playing with this.
yes
That’s drop I really want one

who got the keyboard :)
I subbed and hit the bell ages ago and now I comment twice am I'm more likely to win?
yes
Honestly this could have broke the market for ableton controllers if the pads had velocity
Just buy this
