I was 10 years old In 92. I'm from Orange County southern cali and I remember how it was back then it was a trip things were cool back then. I remember my tio had a mini truck and the way my tia wore sher Jordache jeans and the shiny members only jacket they wore with the snaps.aanf the red lipstick big hoop earrings and tube tops and Mary Janes. The way the hynas all wore there hair and the vatos with there hair long w a hair net and tres Flores 😊 my grandma would go play bingo to pay the rent. Us kids would ride our bikes around and watch everything lol house parties BBQs at the park or backyard parties. Etc our parents plays music loud in the pad on the big stereo w the record player spinning that crackling sound coming out the speakers. Augh I'm telling you the late 80s early 90s those were the times 👌💯

Imagine that you're a kid growing up in Watts during the 80's and 90's, and there aren't many economic opportunities. Now imagine everyone you know is involved in it, you're a young impressionable kid without a father and the gang offers you a sense of community. You're probably going to get pulled in; getting out of the hood is no easy task. I'm in no way justifying it; I'm just pointing out that it's a very complex issue.

I was born in 1990 and I grew up in what you would call a barrio (Mexican hood) near Phoenix where we had shootings and killings and gangs but it wasn't anything on the level of what was going on in LA at the time.

Although the most deadliest (crime wise) decade, in US history was the 1980’s. 1992 was the year that had the most crime in all of US history. Then after that year, crime started going down, especially in California, because of three main reasons. 1: The short lived Crip and Blood truce, that took place in 1992. 2: The Hispanic gang’s prison politics about no more drive-by shootings and having to be careful not too hit (Especially children) innocent civilians; (and the most biggest reason.) 3: Bill Clinton using the Fed’s to start a nation wide crackdown on street gang’s. Especially the one’s in Southern California, by making an example of a couple of Los Angeles gang’s, like The Avenues, who shot and killed a little kid, after the kids family made a wrong turn into a street and an alley that was one of that gangs hangouts, and another gang incident that a lot of people don’t know about, which was when the East Side Longos gang killed a job corp’s student that was walking around East Side Long-Beach. Bill Clinton took that incident personal, because during his presidency, he was endorsing the Job Corp’s program to help low income at risk youth. Yep, during Ronald Reagan and George Bush Seniors Presidencies, thing’s we’re all F’d-up.

LA started this gangbangin shit and took it to another level. No other state takes gangbangin to the level that Los Angeles do. There will prolly never be another year like there was in LA in 92 but right now it’s like the purge out here. This pandemic has a huge part to do with it and also all the EDD fraud going around. Yeah people don't realize how big impact California culture had on the whole WORLD! I came to Sweden from Kosovo when the war broke out, my mom took us here in 1992 i was 2 years old we were 5 brothers and 1 sister, no dad around. But i remember from 96 my older brothers and their friends dressing like 5he gangs in LA listening to tupac, snoop dogg, dr.dre easy e, all the immigrant kids hanging around selling drugs, doing drugs, robberies even some murders. The violence were nowhere nearby as in LA but the lifestyle was very similar. In the end i realized that most off the immigrants came from broken homes and feeling like a alien in this world, alot off my homies and i got stuck on heroin and drugs just to cope with reality and i see more and more now that alot off the latino gangs were also stuck on heroin at that time, the 90's and early 00's feels like a diffrent life time i swear the world just ain't the same since the internet became a thing...

@Jarard X than what does make you? Why be in a gang if you’re not going to commit any crimes?

@Jarard X reread my original comment. Pretty sure there was more $hit going on back then and it was a free for all. You’re still an airhead. Cant seem to wrap your head around that. 🤡

Exactly ! It's what comes to mind. The uncertainty of what's coming or who or what you will run into around the block. I wasn't heavily involved since I was still a kid in the 90's but I was going down that path. Interesting how I can still get flashbacks of what used to cross my mind as a kid hearing and watching these type of stories in the news. Especially having a bald head and getting beaten or killed for it.
      Times change. Regards 🤝
